Hi! I am looking to buy a capital alt and here is my question:

which dread is the "best"? what is your opinion?

And the same for the carrier. which one do you like the most?
I am thinking of getting the Caldari one just because I think it is the sexiest ship in eve but is the Gallente one so much better that I should just go for that one?

all opinions are greatly appreciated!

Not the Naglfar.

If I were to buy one, it would be a Moros. Rev is probably a bit better for POS-busting, but the Moros has a lot of... other... uses.

Dreads = after the citadel torp buff, rev/moros/phoenix are great, nag is meh
Carriers = chimera + archon are great, thanatos = good, nid is great when fitted right but no-one ever does

Archon is great. Only problem I am finding is all the people in my corp fly Chrimera, so neither of us have bonuses to rep eachother.

Yepp, thank god cap ships can't be used for station games. And even if they could be used for it, no-one would anyway.

And thank god it's never been heard of to have a MS or moros camping lowsec gates. That would've been useless.

Oh... wait...

So what have I learned? according to what you guys say and what info I can get from my fitting toll is:

Dreads: all fits is with all lvl V skills, just guns and high dmg ammo plus 5 tech2 sentry drones.

Revelation: is only good when ammo is a issue, and can tank nice because of the 8 low slots.
Naglfar: is simply no good... cant really see why but no one seems to like it.
Phoenix: has the lowest dps and as always with Caldari you need to remove tank if you want electronic warfare.
Moros: has the highest dps because of the drone bonus.

Carriers: all with lvl 5 skills and no fittings more then the fighters.

Archon: has a bonus to armor resistance.
Nidhoggur: is a little better at armor and shield transfer.
Chimera: nice tank if you fit it right and is hands down the sexiest ship in game! (my opinion)
Thanatos: have 250 more dps then the others!

so to come to a conclusion: I as a person that likes to do damage should really try to buy an account that can fly Gallente. but both the Thanatos and the Moros is so damn ugly I am still thinking of going with Caldari!!

Do anyone disagree? plz share your thoughts!

Revelation: is only good when ammo is a issue, and can tank nice because of the 8 low slots. Rev cant tank for **** cause it needs cap to fire guns. it has a good balance between damage and ehp though, and the permadps is a nice feature
Naglfar: is simply no good... cant really see why but no one seems to like it. Its not that bad really just generally slightly worse than the rest. split weapons, less cap, less hp. You can forfeit dps and fit a great buffer if you want
Phoenix: has the lowest dps and as always with Caldari you need to remove tank if you want electronic warfare. Nonsense, it has great dps (with 3 BCU's) and a good buffer, what you need e-war for?
Moros: has the highest dps because of the drone bonus. But its dps is very vulnerable and railgun dps isnt that impressive

Carriers: all with lvl 5 skills and no fittings more then the fighters.

Archon: has a bonus to armor resistance.
Nidhoggur: is a little better at armor and shield transfer.
Chimera: nice tank if you fit it right and is hands down the sexiest ship in game! (my opinion) The tank isnt the chimeras strong points, its cap, with four cpr's its almost unrivalled
Thanatos: have 250 more dps then the others! Unfortunately carrier dps matters **** all in capital fights and chiemra and archon are way better for rr

Do anyone disagree? plz share your thoughts!

Some more thoughts on dreads to add to your list...

Revelation:
+ No reloading (except to change range) rather handy in high lag environment;
+ Strongest buffer armor tank;
+ Very often highest damage dealer in a group of dreads;
- Can have cap issues owing to cap use of guns (not good when a quick jump out is required)
- Restricted to EM/Th damage

Phoenix:
+ Strongest shield tank
+ High burst damage
+ Zero cap use weapons
+ Can do all types of damage (although bonus only to Kin)
- Torps can be neutralized by smarties (although helped by recent buff to their HP)
- Slow speed of torps can mean wasted DPS in large cap battles (target destroyed before they hit)
- Torps useless at damaging anything remotely small (e.g. smaller POS modules)

Moros:
+ Ludicrous drone damage
+ Decent armor tank
- Restricted to Th/Kin damage (apart from drone DPS of course)
- Weapons use cap

Naglfar:
+ Can do all types of damage
+ Zero cap use weapons
+ Nice burst damage
+ Its vertical
+ Highest speed of all dreads (just kidding)
- Worst tank of all dreads and hence insta-primary
- Most skill intensive dread (two capital weapon systems)
- Torp disadvantages as per Phoenix

If I may comment on the Naglfar:

It would be a decent dread, except that it's a split weapon ship and thus requires double the skill points and damage mods to be properly flown, yet even with that is a failboat that is sub par compared to its counterparts with the lowest damage of all dreads, only because you don't have the CPU to fit both a proper shield tank and enough damage mods at the same time to make it worth the 2 billion isk you spend on it.

Hence most people armor tank it, which gives you the same EHP and slightly better sustained tank while having the worst DPS of all the dreads. But it's freakin' vertical I guess, but so is the nightmare.

For a dread I highly recommend the Moros, as it can do much of it's damage outside of siege mode, has some flexibility in damage types with drones and has a mean buffer. Second to that I would go with Revelation; highest raw dps of any dread.

I'd roll amarr or gallente.

carrier blobs usually have more armor rep then shield rep and their caps are all good.

Easy nuff'

chimera = 2x shield rep
archon = 2x armor rep
thanny&nid = 1 shield 1 armour

so...no

The problem with the Nag is that it's schizophrenic: it's got the bonuses and hardpoints of a Typhoon and the slot layout of a Tempest. If you made its slot layout more like a Typhoon (i.e. one less mid, one more low), it would be better off because it would have more room for an armor tank or to accomodate the extra damage mods needed by the split weapon system. Alternatively, you could drop the torp bonus for a second gun bonus and add a third gun hardpoint to make it more like a Tempest, but you may have to put one high slot somewhere else to keep things balanced (i.e. no other dread has three bonused and one unbonused weapon).

If you're looking to have 1 character fly both capitals, then I'd say go for an amarr character. Best carriers are archon/chimera, best dreads are moros/revelation.

Moros is the only dread in the game that outdamages most BSs while not in siege, it's also got more drone DPS then a carrier, making it by far the best at killing sub-capitals.

Revelation is best in fleet fights, because of not having to reload and its huge buffer, it outperforms all other dreads whenever lag is a factor.

For the carriers, archon/chimmy are the same ship, with different tanks. The nid and thanny are slightly less useful due to their reduced local tanks.
