what exactly do ecm drones do? |

They jam. They are all equipped with a multispectral jammer with a strength of two. So each cycle each drone gets a chance of opponent sensor strength / 2 to jam their targeting for 10 seconds.
That is for heavy drones. Medium and small does the same thing but with less strength. |

http://wiki.eveonline.com/wiki/Wasp_EC-900It says 20 seconds. 10 seconds would be too good. |

If the formula is (Sensor str)/2 chance to jam their target, that would go UP as sensor str goes up. That has to be wrong. |

Okay, found a thread that gave some of the math...
http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=841216
To summarize though, the formula is...
1- ((1- (Jam str/Ship str))^# of jammers)
To give an example, suppose someone sics 5 ECM drones on my arbitrator. The arbi has a signal str of 12, so 2/12=.17% chance each jamming attempt. So an 83% chance of not getting jammed each try, to the 5th power, we get .39% chance of not getting jammed. So 60% chance each "jam cycle" that I would get jammed.
Not sure how often they try to jam or the duration though. |

Not quite, as it's 1 chance in that number. If a frigate has 9 sensor strength, you would have once chance in 4.5 to jam it. If it has 20 you would have one chance in 10 to jam it. The formula you presented does the exact same thing but iterates it 5 times and inverts it to present it as a percentage of jamming instead. Originally by: Kirtan Loor

Could've sworn it was 10 seconds. I guess it would be a tad better even if I find the difference negligible. |

It's 20 seconds. Evemon also confirms this... "Activation time/duration: 20,000 MS" |
