We all have sat in station cursing Scotty for not letting us into or out of our ships because they are not in the hangar yet. I have also heard suggestions of ships going by while in the station environment. So here is my suggestion.

When a ship executes a docking command, and the station accepts, the ship in space would be grabbed by several tractor beams and pulled into the docking port. As a role player, I have never liked the instant docking / undocking. So instead of a straight up load we would get maybe a cinematic of the ship passing through the docking ports in the station, and being placed in a docking hangar. For the graphic I imagine a series of tractor beams the same way a warp gate works. If we make it take the 30 seconds we would have to wait anyway, it not only makes more role play sense, but would add to the immersion aspect.

As a second note, I would like to see limits on the number of ships that can dock at a particular time. Equip stations with say 500 docking ports, when attempting to dock at a full station you would then get the option to join the docking cue or reject docking. If you do not dock, you are outside, vulnerable. A hostile action would remove you from the dockign cue.

Yes, but that was an arbirary number for normal statiosn. Stations like Jita could have expanded docking arrays. Honestly, I think Jita has out grown that little station, so unless they have the end all be all of Planck generators in there, Jita needs a HUGE custom station model with multiple docking ports. Very Happy

The idea is great, ive myself have thought about that... I allso would like to add outside dockingports for thoes who just want to access their agents and ithembay without entering the station.. And then tractor beams would grab u an pull you into a dockingslot (with dockinglights would be awsome, and maby on the ship aswell). This way miners/haulers can dropp off the cargo fast, and save time.
And when u are docked in a station your ship is the only one beeing seen.. even though there is more than one dockingslot in both gallente and amarr stations.. How cool wouldnt it be if several ppl were in the same dockingroom, entering and leaving?

I think at one of the fanfests the mentioned how in the early days they actually had a docking animation but removed it becasue of the frequency of use. People would like it for the first day or two, after that not so much.

Well, I still think docking animations would be nice! But you should have your "In-station User Interface" ready and fully functional to do everything you can already do while you are docking, like browsing the marketing for example. If not, of course I would want them removed. Very Happy
