(and the subject was after 10 minutes of salvaging) .... 00:36:11 Notify Your salvaging attempt failed this time. .... While I wait here's the story: I engage and destroy 3 Assualt frigates (2x Jaguar, 1x Harpy) in my Myrmidon. I collect loot and then begin to repeatedly salvage the wrecks with my 1 salvager - I have salvaging lvl 3. 2nd attempt I salvage a Jaguar wreck for 2 metal scraps and 1 Trigger unit. .... 00:38:42 Notify You successfully salvage from the Minmatar Elite Frigate Wreck. 1 Intact armour plate, 1 Logic circuit .... 00:41:12 Notify Your salvaging attempt failed this time. .... etc etc I'm still salvaging the 3rd wreck and in order to not have this forum time out my login I will have to finish it before my salvaging is finished. The point is T2 salvaging really needs looking at CCP. I know I have bare minimum skills for it, but taking nearly an hour to salvage 3 wrecks that took 5 minutes to make is ridiculous. 00:45:44 Notify You successfully salvage from the Caldari Elite Frigate Wreck. 1 Telemetry Processer, 1 Intact Shield Emitter, 2 Scrap metal. Thank God I can play the game again now. |

You could start training Salvaging IV the next time and it may complete by the time you finish salvaging your wrecks. |

so you are complaining that a low salvaging skill is not all powerful? |

Could just be me, but when I find one getting stuck for a long time, stopping the salvager and restarting it seems to help rather than just letting it cycle. Maybe it throws a different seed into the random number generator or something.
Another level on the skill is certainly recommended, though. It's chance based, so yes, there's always a chance of failing over and over and over and over and over ... |

The problem with it being chance based is not what I'm complaining about.
I do think however there should be a maximum number of salvage attempts before any wreck disappears to stop people with the skills to salvage the stuff from wasting hours.
I dont really care if that means I dont get anything - so long as the wreck is gone and I know I gave it a shot.
The current system means that even with lvl 4 or 5 skills you can still sit there for ages and ages before getting lucky, so the skills are only saving you a bit of time rather than actually increasing the chance you'll get more salvage than someone with the lvl 3 skill.
IMHO this game design needs improving so salvaging T2 wrecks is not wasting so much of everybody's time. Cheers. |

Edited by: Clansworth on 20/12/2008 08:36:33 A dedicated salvager can cut through tech 2 wrecks relatively easily. Salvaging to IV or V, with 1-3 salvage tackle rigs. Throw in a 'Hardwiring - Poteque Pharmaceuticals 'Prospector' PPY-1' and maybe even the PPZ-1 for extra goodness. |

Jerdola was killed in my system a month ago.... i went there with catalyst and began salvaging the little bastard... i stayed there for 10min yes... but gave me 15 intact plates.... nice income for 10min wasted time!..
T2 salvaging can take much time... but it pays of if u are salvaging the right wreck.
IE: Salvaging skill LVL IV and Catalyst rigged.... |

Ehm what are you saying exactly?:
"I have skill level 1 at using weapon/module X, and I rarely succeed, therefor the game sucks."
or
"I just figured out that it pays off to train skills to lvl4" |

This. Trying to salvage high-end (t2) wrecks with no rigs, bare-minimum skills and no implants and ONE salvager is like mining in a Navitas...with only one mining laser and no upgrades or mining-related mods on at all. |

Actually, the wrecks you're talking about probably have a "-13% difficulty access modifier", which means your actual salvage chance with level 3 skill is roughly 2% per cycle (so, on average, about 8 minutes 20 sec per wreck), assuming a single salvager being used. Taking the skill to L4 would mean you get a 7% salvage chance per cycle, effectively reducing the average salvage time by a factor of 3.5, so ~2 minutes 20 sec instead of ~8 minutes 20 sec on average. Or, ok, maybe a -12% modifier, so 3% chance at L3 (close to 5 min 30 sec average) and 8% chance at L4 (closer to 2 min 10 sec average). Still a noticeable improvement. |

As annoying as it is, it is a special advanced wreck that shouldn't be able to be popped up of all its vital parts in a matter of moments.
Just my thought on it. I've had to wait at most 9-10 minutes with salvaging 3 and a single salvager for an AF wreck. |
