The Caldari Titan 'Leviathan' should be renamed to 'Albatross'.

Reason: Most of the Caldari ships are named after a type of bird, for example;

- Crow
- Blackbird
- Falcon
- Vulture
- Eagle

The Albatross is one of the biggest 'wondering' birds in the world, as is the Titan one of the biggest ships of the Caldari's classes. Wouldn't it then seem logical to assume, that the Titan is going to be called something which relates to the smaller class ships, yet it's name states that it is one of the biggest. Thoughts?

The Caldari are squidies, so Leviathan is not too far of a stretch from that.

All the cool names of real birds have already been used, that leaves us with mythological. Of course I don't know too much mythology, but I don't recall many intimidating birds that would be of the proper scale to name a Titan class ship.

Phoenix and Roc are already taken.

What's that leave us with?

Chicken of Doom maybe?

Well they wasted 'Rokh' on one of the battleships, so there goes the term that would have been very fitting for a Caldari titan.

But don't forget 'Scorpion', so the Leviathan probably belongs to this naming group.

-edit-
All in all I think Leviathan is not a bad choice.
If they want to keep introducing new ships they will have to loosen the naming schemes anyway.

The 'Leviathan' is the largest ship of it's race, and the Albatross is the largest bird of it's type, theres a sound link between the two, and as the majority of Caldari ships are named after birds, it only seems somewhat logical.

Erm, the Rokh is certainly bigger than an Albatross.
Wouldn't really make sense.

And when the Albatross releases its Dooms Day Dump, you better not be standing anywhere underneath it.

Have you ever seen an Albatross land?

Such a large and majestic looking bird (when flying) and yet born without the ability to set itself on the ground properly. Everyone would name their Titans "Launchpad McQuack".

There are some good bird names left for CCP to use, but none of them fit something as big as the Leviathan.

The Zu. As mythological birds go, I'm pretty sure it's the biggest by definition. The mono-syllable name leaves a little to be desired though. Like, two or three more syllables Confused

Final Fantasy monsters do not count as mythological in the same way as other mythological creatures do.

That said, the reason this name would be shot down is because it's pronounced "zoo". I would not like to make one of the largest ships in EvE give people the impression that it's full of animals on display.

no, cerebrus is a three headed demonic hound.

leviethian is a mythic creature, just like:
basilisk (lizard creature with a stare that turns anyone who sees it to stone, also, caldari logistics cruiser)
Cerberus (aformentioned three headed hound, also caldari HAC)
phoenix(mythic immortal bird of flame, also caldari dreadnaught)
Wyvern(winged reptilian creature, kinda like a dragon but not quite so noble, also a caldari carrier)

other mythic references in caldari ships:
Griffin
Harpy
Manticore
Drake
Golem
Chimera

name is 100% in keeping with caldari naming traditions, now lets look at why leviathan might be an appropriate name for a titan:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviathan

Creation of Leviathan

According to most ancient Jewish midrash, the Leviathan was created on the fifth day (Yalkut, Gen. 12). Originally God produced a male and a female leviathan, but lest in multiplying the species should destroy the world, He slew the female, reserving her flesh for the banquet that will be given to the righteous on the advent of the Messiah (B. B. 74b).

Size

The enormous size of the Leviathan is thus illustrated by R. Johanan, from whom proceeded nearly all the haggadot concerning this monster: "Once we went in a ship and saw a fish which put his head out of the water. He had horns upon which was written: 'I am one of the meanest creatures that inhabit the sea. I am three hundred miles in length, and enter this day into the jaws of the Leviathan'" (B. B. l.c.). When the Leviathan is hungry, reports R. Dimi in the name of R. Johanan, he sends forth from his mouth a heat so great as to make all the waters of the deep boil, and if he would put his head into paradise no living creature could endure the odor of him (ib.). His abode is the Mediterranean Sea; and the waters of the Jordan fall into his mouth (Bek. 55b; B. B. l.c.).

so, size clearly befitting one of the largets ships ever to exist in eve.

now, attack:

Christianity

The Christian interpretation of Leviathan is often considered to be a demon or natural monster associated with Satan or the Devil, and held by some to be the same monster as Rahab (Isaiah 51:9).

Some biblical scholars considered Leviathan to represent the pre-existent forces of chaos. In Psalm 74:13-14 it says "it was You who drove back the sea with Your might, who smashed the heads of the monsters in the waters; it was You who crushed the heads of Leviathan, who left him as food for the creatures of the wilderness. (JPS edition)" God drove back the waters of the Earth (Genesis 1:2 "And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters." ([NAS])

*snip*

Leviathan became associated, and may have originally been referred to, in the visual motif of the Hellmouth, a monstrous animal into whose mouth the damned disappear at the Last Judgement, found in Anglo-Saxon art from about 800, and later all over Europe.[4][5]

happy yet?

this crash course in mythology has been a community service announcement.
