I have been doing a ton of testing on sisi because of the web nerf primarily. I always have been a big fan of frig combat, and I thought this would be great, and bring ceptors back as a viable ship.

Unfortunately, nearly everyone seems to have tech 2 light drones these days since they are cheap and easy to train. They absolutely shred ceptors. I always try to kill them but it never works, they always kill me first, and against dedicated drone boats, don't even bother.

The side effect of the web nerf is that it pretty much makes everyone paranoid so if they have a drone bay, it has a set of lights.

Look, I don't want ceptors to be invincible, but our tanks are almost entirely speed based which light drones practically ignore. Add in energy neutralizers and the fact that if your being targeted by 2 or more people in a skirmish situation, your probably not going to make it through the fight.

All I am saying is tone down the damage. Its bursty, and over the top. Or boost ceptor HP up to where AF's are currently. AF's will still have better resistances so they will have the advantage. We are supposed to be ably to tackle, meaning we are always the first into battle, and probably the first targeted. It should take longer than 15 seconds for drones to kill us. I have tried plates, even 400's, and damage controls, and it only slightly delays the inevitable.

Tried fitting a couple of light or micro smart bombs?

Not saying this will fix it, but I had thought about this myself... haven't tested it.

Doubt that will work, plus for some ceptors that would be really be rough. Taranis doesn't really have the cap to be throwing around a smart bomb, not to mention I really rely on the cap a small nos gives me there to counter larger neutralizers.

Malediction with precision missiles or rockets should counter drones rather effectively, and it can permarun its disruptor and MWD without having to NOS anything. Of course if you have enough drones attacking you there's nothing to be done except warp away of course.

edit: but smartbombs may very well the best counter post-patch, and people are just gonna have to bite the bullet on the cap hit from smartbomb activation. But worst case scenario you have to break your disruptor lock on your target while you go and kill their drones. If they warp off, then at least they left their drones behind.

Good post! have u tried setting yer own drones (wit Taranis) on the attacking drones? how about fitting 1 cap recharger II in yer mids ta deal wit cap issues?

That's one of the few good things about this patch: inties are no longer invulnerable to anything and everything.

I thought smartbombs were sillilly weak.

I am not entirely sure but i doubt that fitting a micro or a small SB will help an interceptor survive. If the opponent knows what he is training then he should have trained drone sharpshooting to lv4 at least. If i recall correctly that gives 1000 m per level in optimal. Which means that at lv4 the optimal of drones is 5000m (that is they orbit at 5000m around the attacked ship). Which is outside the effective range of the Micro and Small Smartbombs.

I am under the impression that interceptors won't speedtank in the new expansion, but they will try to keep their signature as low as possible to avoid damage (signature tanking?).

No, no.

Drones have a fixed orbit range which is in their attributes. Drone sharpshooting increases their optimal range so that on the approach of the target, or if a target is moving faster than they are they can still hit it without needing to be in orbit range.

Sadly I think people are going to have to treat light drones like fighter drones 2 years ago...

Ceptor one gets light drone agro--speeds off and pulls away all the light drones

Ceptor two in gang moves in for the locks...

Failing that--we might need to petition CCP for the return of the "micro cap booster" with the cap booster 25 and 50 charges... That might let u fire off a faction small smartbomb enough to kill one flight of light drones!

Ceptors are viable on TQ.

Of course, the bog-standard unrigged T2 fits won't speedtank high-tracking medium guns or evade light drones fully.

On SISI, they got slower, but will speedtank high-tracking medium guns the same way a 10km/s ceptor does on TQ right now. Bleah. You naturally still get caught by drones (and have no recourse there).

I actually prefered the times when a ceptor could speedtank everything if he decided to sink some 50-ish mil in his ship, rather then boosting the standard T2 fit interceptor which costs peanuts while removing the ability to speedtank all damage at a higher price.

But no, you cannot have a interceptor boost, your 15 mil ship IS supposed to die to anti-frig weapons, now that nothing but anti-frig weapons actually work. It's not my fault (nor do I like it) that interceptor pimpability (enabling them to avoid damage at a price) is gone.
