I am kinda disappointed...
for someone that can fly:

-a command ship (from the looks of it, a command ship would give higher bonus?....)
-Obelisk (wayyy bigger hold)
-Occators (26k cargo, 30k+ with cans and probley wayyy faster aligning and speed.)

the Orca seems .. well, tries to do all 3 and performing mediocrely......

the only thing going for it is the tractor beams/cans... but yeah, I use secure cans to mine... and you cant tractor anchored cans XD...

The only real use/niche I see the orca filling is trasnporting Rigged ships though high sec...

thats the only thing that no other ship can do....

The Orca will give better mining bonus at lev 1 because the ship type bonus over no bonus for the command ship. Also keep in mind. they have not said how many command mods it can run at once. The command ship and the Rorqual can run three before needing a command processor. From the looks of it the Orca will only be able to run 1. So to run more command mods in the high slot you will need to use up the few mid slots on the command processors.

To me this is a sad thing. I hope they allow it to run 3 command mods, like the Rorqual and command ship before needing the command processor.

Yeah, now that I look at it. You should need some more skills. Perhaps Industry 5 and Mining Foreman 5 or something. I guess it's a pain for people to get mining barge 5, but besides that, it's not a unique ship. The price of one perhaps will deter that but with the Rorqual, you need jump skills and that is one of the hard parts about getting one. Price as well. I only know a few Rorq pilots but I'm thinking there will be a lot of Orca pilots.

Edit: someone mentioned above that the Industry 5 skill might be required for the advanced industrial skill. That I can live with.

Doesn't Mining Barge skill have Industry V as a prerequisite already?

I was thinking Industrial Ships 5, not Industry 5. I misspoke.

Things I've seen with the orca.

77.9km3 with T1 cargo rigs
Freighters can't pull from its corp hangar
400,000m3 ship hangar allows 2 mackinaws to fit.

only 25mbit for drones, I would think this big ass thing could at least get some mediums.

Still playing with the rest..

Also for people who are trying to get on SiSi to check it out, it is only currently seeded in FD-MLJ so make sure u head that way. Join the moveme channel to get moved there. Some ass bought them all off the market, so people are waiting to get another seed.

Also this is the only place the skillbook, ship and blueprint are at as of this time.

No biggie, those things happen. Is Industrial Command Ships skill available on Sisi yet? Racial Industrial V is probably a prerequisite for it. If it's not, I agree it should be.

Those are turrets I believe, so no.

As far as industrial, I guess that idea is debunk since I forgot it's a racial skill. Oh well. I just think there should be a little bit more skill req for this. Mining foreman 5?

Strip miners require a specific attribute on the ship (99% reduction to requirements). The stats for the Orca don't have that listed, so no go on the strip miners.

Several people on the other thread suggested Mining Director I be a pre-req instead of Mining Foreman.

It's not that bad though it could be better. It carries 120+k m3. 90k m3 in cargo and 30k m3 in corporate hangar. And it has a modest ship maintenance bay too. Would be nice if the base cargohold were expanded to 40k so you could have 120+k m3 cargohold with mods. That seems a reasonable adjustment.

My only request would be to increase the drone bandwidth to 50mbit/sec so it can use 5 medium drones.

It's designed for empire use, so it might not be that much of an issue, since medium drones are getting nerfed against small targets and empire belts only spawn frigate rats.

I noticed that there doesn't appear to be a limit on what type of ships it can haul in its maint bay. So we'll be able to haul non-industrial ships around empire? That would be nice.

Just remember folks, this may not be the final product that will hit TQ. I think there are going to be a few tweeks that come down the pike on this before it goes live.

So far, I think they'll play around with cargo capacity, and maybe CPU/powergrid. But it still remains to be seen.

Cargohold midway between an indy and a freighter, for medium loads(90k expanded apparently) -- check!

Cool mining bonuses -- check!

Able to carry rigged ships -- check!

Able to fit ships in space -- check!

Looks Cool -- check!

I want this ship naow!!! /me sells of his freighter and buys an orca Very Happy
And btw, your graphics people are fantastic, I love the look of this beast

Edit:

Quote:
The benefit of the corporate hangar is that it can be used as a secure location for storing ore because it is accessible by others. For example, when out on mining ops your haulers (if you still need them with the Orca present) can take from here instead of scooping jet cans.

Take that can-flippers?Twisted Evil I approve of this method, allows those willing to band together and spend the isk to stay safer, and prevents npc corp macroers making use of it. Good deal

All in all, I'm more than impressed, Cool

Edit No.2

Actually, if you go all out and get industrial command 5, you can expand it to 92.7k, realistically it's 89k with industrial command 4, which is about what they said it should be expandable to.

Agreed, this would be very awesome and open up a lot of interesting possibilities, especially for solo or small corp play.

Quote:
I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up with the same limitation on the ship bay as the Rorqual. So that it can only carry barges, exhumers, industrials and transport ships.

No... http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=904880

Would like to see a little improvement in capacity or hangar capacity and or an extra slow or a hardpoint, as described above. In turn, would be quite happy to accept a limit on the gang modules (so as not to make the Rorqual uncompetitive).

Same here. I put 2 assembled Hulks in the Maintenance bay and 8 packaged hulks in the corp hangar. 5 T2 Hammer IIs in the Drone bay.

Hi - Laser Optimization and 2 Small Tractors
Mid - 4x Large Shield extender IIs
Lo - 2x T2 Cargo Expanders

Rigs: 3x T1 Cargo

Then I flew away to hisec. Very Happy

Oh! I think it can only use 1 Command mod at a time without that Command Link thingy.

Personally, I really don't care about the mining bonus, I am happy with the basic bonus from the foreman skill. I much prefer that the ship is competitive in another area, and leave the special mining modules for the Rorqual.

Screw that. REally, I would prefer transport ships rather than mining barge skills, and could say goodbye to the mining foreman links (which need mining director anyway). I have no plans to much extra mining in it, although it would be amusing to give it 5 lite mining drones in 1.0 and see how long it takes to fill the hold =)

Someone mentioned this was a "Mission runners dream"... but if the above isn't true, then no, it's not.
