Currently, my character is mostly Amarr with a bit of minamatar mixed in. I had planned on training up Minmatar after Amarr and going into capitals with the minmatar, but I've heard that the minmatar capitals rather suck, (which is a disappointment since they look amazing compared to some of the other cap ships.) I don't want to use the Amarr capitals, I just don't like them.

Conversely, the Gallente have good capitals, but none of their sub-capitals really interest me. So here is the question, should I train minmatar and end up with bad capitals, or train Gallente, even though none of their T2 ships really beat those of the minmatar?

A couple things I've been told are conflicting and I'm not sure how to feel about them.
1. Minmatar caps are bad, and everyone admits it, eventually CCP is going to have to boost them.
2. with the upcoming speed nerf, the gallente T2 are getting a boost, and the minmatar a nerf, so you should be gallente anyway.

Admittedly, I like the minmatar capitals mostly for their appearence, but should that be enough to influence my decision?

Train minmatar as hopefully by the time you finish all the other skills to properly use it (split weapons ftw?) CCP will have buffed them in some way. Maybe, but hey Eve is all about risk after all. Razz

Btw whats wrong with amarr capitals? They are sexy and very effective within thier roles. ugh

1) The Antikythera Mechanism is one of the coolest discoveries ever. Something so sophisticated and intricate, so many centuries before we thought possible.

2) Amarr caps are awesome -- get with the gold!

3) Its not that big a deal to fly tech2 stuff sub-battleship in one race and caps of another.

4) Nobody ever got kicked out of bed for flying a Naglfar.

No, you should not train minmatar capitals. The Dread, while vertical, is truly sub-par. Gallente are also, sub-par when it comes to carriers, but at least it has the Moros, which is amazing.

Amarr actually have the best capitals. . .which is the character you want to take towards capss if possible.

the reason not to go Amarr for capitals is simple. While the Revelation and Archon look decent, I hate the appearance of their supercaps. The Aeon looks like a bisected bestower with extra bits glued on, while the Nyx and Hel look like sex and drugs.
I'm not trying to be vain, but if I'm shelling out that kind of money on a ship, I deserve to have a say in how they look.

in that case, go Gallente capitals. I know a lot of minmatar pilots who trained the Niddy, and then bought the skill book for a Thanatos and never get into the Niddy anymore. Its like your first battleship, you train for the looks, then you start to min/max - except with this one, you are looking at longer skill times and more money. And ya, the Nyx is an eve icon - when people say mom, they think Nyx.

The Moros, with t2 sentries is a sight to behold btw. . .its quite scarry what that ship can do.

whenever i play a game i play something because i like thier special abilities, or the looks or something, i never picked anything because they were the cookie cutter race or army, etc.

best advice i can give you is to train whatever you like the most, i have been told minnie caps such, and im not gonna argue that, but i will still continue my minnie capital ship training because they are just what i like to play

The trick is to try to be diverse in two races and thus nerf proof. Amar and Minmatar is a decent enough combo for that.

(but really the traditional thing to do at a crossroads is wait till midnight, wait for the man in black to appear, hand him your guitar. He will tune it and hand it back. You know have 7 years till the devil comes for your soul but you will be one hot blues playing machine.. I tried this at my local crossroads but after 3 hours of hanging around at charing cross the police arrived and arrested me for curb crawling).

Oh, capitals, does it really matter at this stage?

Go amarr for the supertanker then you'll get your moneys worth spamming smack in local as you go down.

This, so true!

I for my part switched from Amarr to Caldari. And although I think Amarr ships could offer me better performance for my play style (maybe ^^) I just like to shield tank, I like missiles and I like the look of most Caldari ships since Trinity.

Lot of people say "Caldari capitals suck because nobody needs a shield repper"..."Phoenix is bad, it's torpedos can be destroyed by smartbombs"..."Drakes are boring, they are so common"...I train it because I like style and abilities of Caldari ships.

Also: what could be better then winning a fight as a considered "underdog"? Very Happy

Minmatar capitals are the only ones you should insure before you go into a fleet fight.
