Just a quick question about trading - I've built up a little cash pot and I fancy having a go at buying and selling on the market.

My question is, do I always have to deliver what I sell to the buyer or is it possible to simply buy and sell from one station? If this is possible, what skills do you need?

The "Station-Trading", as many people call it can be done.
JITA 4-4 is almost all the times the choise for so.

You can buy, and sell all the stuff, without undocking.

Other places like Rens, Amarr, Ours.lert(something like that) are also good possibilities.

EDIT: and no addition skills are needed for it ;)

No, items are bought and sold on the station in which the item resides. You can buy an item from pretty much anywhere and have to travel to the station to pick it up. You can sell at any station you please, and the buyer comes to you.

An additional point to add is that the location of the items will be a significant factor to many buyers, so keep that in mind when you decide where to list your items.

Most buyers will make their buying decision based off a complicated set of factors that will include price (of course), but also the cost and convenience of delivery. Many impatient, impulse buyers (one of your most lucrative targets) will only buy at the station or in system, or perhaps within a jump. Some buyers will seek out the best price irrespective of the location and will travel. Many large volume buyers who know that they are wielding leverage will demand that you deliver.

The point is, all options are available and have their costs and benefits. Plan accordingly based on the value to you of ISK vs. delivery logistics. Good luck!

Items are always delivered at the station where they are physically present when the sell order is created.

Anyone in the game can buy items for sale anywhere in their current region. Without additional skills, however, pilots may only sell items in the station at which they are physically present. Also, pilots are limited in how many buy and sell orders they may have active at once. When placing a buy order, a portion of the prospective cost is immediately removed from one's wallet and placed in escrow. Further, pilots are assessed transaction taxes and fees for placing market orders. Here are some useful skills for traders:

  • Trade: increases the number of active sell orders allowed

  • Retail: increases the number of active buy and sell orders allowed

  • Wholesale: increases the number of active buy and sell orders allowed

  • Tycoon: increases the number of active buy and sell orders allowed

  • Marketing: increases range from items at which sell orders may be placed

  • Procurement: increases range from which buy orders may be placed (e.g. you may sell something 4 jumps away)

  • Visibility: increases the distance from a remote buy order that order is good for (e.g. you may set that buy order 4 jumps away to be good for 8 jumps from that point)

  • Daytrading: increases range at which one may modify existing buy and sell orders

  • Accounting: reduces transaction taxes

  • Broker Relations: reduces fees for setting up market orders

  • Margin Trading: reduces the percentage of purchase price placed in escrow when buy orders are made
