And, yea 232 years, we are so young, so very young compared to the rest of the world.

Barring the Vatican the US has the oldest unchanged government in the world (something tells me someplace like Burundi might be older too but I'm drunk).

The Brits sort of evolved their government with lots of baby steps. Nothing fun like the French chopping everyone's head off. Still, in 1776 King George still had more power than the Queen today and might be considered sufficiently "different".

You know, I was thinking more in general terms. They have gone through so many upheavals, empire building, and empire falling, it did influence Europe and European cultures significantly - not that I am really familiar with the socio-historical deep stuff - but I lived in Europe for a very long time, and I still go there for extended stays; every time I return home I experience a sort of "culture shock," believe it or not.

I suppose I am thinking those thoughts because of dual perspective, since I am naturalized American, I was born in Europe and lived there till I was 17, and now am living in the USA. Still, always surprises me how young America really is, and I keep trying to imagine how it will be in 700 years.

Again, Happy Birthday USA. Very Happy

Edit:

By the way, Surfin's PlunderBunny - awesome signature.... Laughing

Just nitpicking but technically today is the birth of our government and at 232 years old it is nearly the oldest (and the Vatican barely counts in this I think).

But yeah...European culture (indeed pretty much anywhere else) is way older. While I was born and raised in the US I too could literally feel the age difference tooling around Europe. I decided they must all live in castles since there seemed to be one around every hill. Wink

Of course we are an amalgam of all those cultures...basically the world's mutts.

I think the "tea" thing was a war crime, honestly. I quite like tea, only without milk.
With milk, well, there is you other war crime. Cool

Seriously...these guys are in Iceland (so can avoid Jack Thompson). I thought Europeans were generally more hip and laid back too. Not to mention I think the average age of an EVE player is like 27.

Is there anyone who could possibly manage to play EVE who has not heard a naughty word? And if so can't we just consider it as part of the EVE learning curve? We'd be doing them a favor!

Oh no you di'n't!

But, yeah, we're a young country.

I'll paraphrase for laughs:

In the US, 100 years is old.
In England, 100 miles is far away.

Happy Birthday USA.

Yes indeed, its been 232 years since you started wishing you were back in the British Empire Wink

On a more serious note .....

Ive NEVER met an American I didnt like. Ive found them to be a most helpful, generous and warm hearted people. People generally confuse dislike of the American Government with dislike of the people and nothing could be further from the truth. The peope are just fantastic. So, to every single damn one of you independence seeking rednecks I tip my hat and wish you many many more happy birthdays, peace and prosperity.

Well if you want to get really nitpicky: the low countries first had a representative council in 1464. In 1587 it was decided that this council would be the political power in the low countries from then on without a single ruler. Although the government has changed in name due to foreign occupations, the representative council never ceased to exist is still active today in the Netherlands. In name the Netherlands are a constitutional monarchy now though.

So yeah, unless you argue that occupation counts as a change this would count as older.

The Vatican does count imo though and is older than both. I think there are other governments that are older too, but I don't know that for sure.

Anyway, happy 4th of July. Very Happy

Same for the Netherlands, although we do celebrate our liberation from German occupation at the end of WWII.
