Last night tried to generate a new API key for my character. When I did this message came up

"Failed to generate new API key, please try again..."

This was the same last night as today. Tried several times now as well. Any mod know why it is not generating a new one for my character and if so how I can get a new one?

my api's and the rest of the corps are not working since the patch and website upgrade so wait till its repaired then you should be ok. It normally happens after patches they turn them off for some reason

Finally it looks like i'm not the only one who isn't able to use the api anymore...
Evemon unable to connect to api.

But...

I wasn't able to find official communication about it.
May my search were not good enough to find it or wheren't there none ?

Anyways, it's just for informations, i hope i won't see whines after my post.

if you login to the website, go to My Character, then click on xml data, you will see this in your browser:

The API should be re-enabled after downtime today.

It is usually disabled after any major patch or (as in this case) any significant Website change .

If the plans to re-enable it change I will let you know.

Since the server when down for the patch upgrades I cant seem to get access to my API info when using EVE-Mon... when I try to re-add my character all I get is an error message:

GetCharacterList() issue: EVE backend database temporarily disabled.

This happens with both home and work PC so it not the software and yes Iv tried to make a new API key and waited well over 10 mins for it to work.

But its good you are patching stuff Very Happy

I've managed to get EVEMon to work again after DT for one of my toon, the other one still can't retrieve any data (or generate a new limited API key for that matter).

Edit : sure enough, as soon as I posted this, API started working again on the other toon :D

Ok just tried to create access my api details, it just goes straight to the original message saying

"failed to gernerate new api key, please try again later.."

This is getting somewhat annoying now

it may just be EveMon screwing up for me again, but my character is Cached and not updating while my brother's character has never stopped working properly....

i tried to update my API key just in case and evemon says:

"invalid user ID or API key information"

ideas??

guys remember that you have to wait a while before the API Key works:

Which means you get a error message that the key isn't working if you try it earlier.

Additionally all data in the API is cached which means EVEMon is only updating every hour, don't remember how it is in EVEMon atm. but if EVEMon is showing the correct Skill in training and the correct time for it the connection to the API should be fine.

If you checked all the points and EVEMon is still not running try if you can access your Character page directly:

api.eve-online.com/account/Characters.xml.aspx?userID=[your user ID]&apiKey=[your api key]

and if you get a error here too - I think some of you do, please file a bug report so we have a record about the bug and can test the specific issues.

If you are still having issues with Evemon retrieving data on a particular account. I've found the following to work.

(1) Add the character(s) from that account the normal way
(2) Manually go into each malfunctioning character click on the reload icon in the top right corner and select change API Information
(3) Reenter the same API Key

It should force it to uncache and retrieve the character info.

If you are still having problems getting character information please remember that we fixed the bug that allowed inactive accounts to use the API.

So if your account is inactive you will not have access to the API. If you have an active account and are still have issues please file a bug report with as much information as possible.

Account is active. I did send a bug report, but due to EVEMON is a third party aplication, CCP did not give me a solution. I guess I just can wait or access throw XML.

now every time i try to log into the page to copy my API key i get a Failed to generate API key error message....

I wish I was that lucky. 3 computers, 2 different OS and 2 browsers on each. Cleared all private data/cache/cookies etc and still no joy. the only thing I haven't tried is a complete reinstall of a browser or a different browser (FF & IE) and the account is active...
This has me stumped, bug report filed, now just sitting back to see what happens and will revert back to the old method of skill checking...log on, note length of skill, manually calculate finish time and put a 'sticky note' on the monitor Confused

i have tried using IE and Firefox... Tired clearing Cache, tried waiting... lol


still getting "Failed to generate new API key, please try again..." every time i try to log into the API page.....

i cannot think of anything else to try... as i mentioned earlier this isn't a universal problem... my bro has had no problems whatsoever...

any idea on when this is going to be fixed?

If you are having problems generating a new API Key please please please file a bug report with your dxdiag report and include in the description the browsers (Name and version) that you have tried.

We are having little luck duplicating it internally and the more information you can give us the better so we can track down a set of common variable or reproduction steps.
