Anyone else seen this in the newspapers?

At the current time of posting I am currently looking at an odd shaped, bright light hovering in the distance. I've been looing at it now for about an hour and it's hard to tell whether 'it's' moved or whether we have.
It's not the first time i've seen it there. I saw it a few days ago but that time it kept dimming and going bright again. It wasn't a cloudy night so it wasn't just a case of it being covered by clouds. It appeared in a national newspaper the next day too.

Not only that but a few moments ago i saw another bright 'streak' go by. It kind of appeared out of nowhere, streaked across the sky then disappeared.

It's kind of freaking me out a bit..

A helicopter. The dimming and brightning you are reffering to is probably just It's light changing angle at which It's facing you.

Maybe you should take a few pictures of it and/or look at it through some high power binoculars - lack of this is why so many people refuse to even look/talk at these sorts of events.

I take it as a sign of the collective IQ having gone down in the UK.

I have a picture of it on my phone but it's barely visible. I tried to find my binoculars last night but couldn't get them. I'm gonna try and get my telescope from the attic tonight incase it comes back.

If you're talking about the sighting of multiple unidentified hovering lights about a week ago... There was another story, strangely less reported in the papers, where the manager of a local hotel pointed out that they used paper lantern balloon things at a wedding that night. You light these things and the hot air sets them floating off into the night, glowing eerily.

If you're talking about the fast-moving object allegedly trailed by a police helicopter, carry on.

Probably a planet or bright star if it's not moving.

This one is very likely a meteroite burning up.

the bright streak?
A meteor. they happen every single day, all around the globe. if you've been gawping at a night sky for an hour, there's absolutely no surprise that a grain of space dust the size of a pea when burning through the sky.

bright light in the sky that's moved over the course of an hour...
I think you'll find that is normally known as a planet, or star.

where in the sky, what constellations is it visible in, what angle above the ground etc.

"bright light in the distance" is about as accurate as saying pi is "three and a bit".
the "a bit" is the difference between accepting you're about to receive an anál probe from friends from the planet Mongo, and accepting that you've spent the last hour gawping at Venus....

I was tempted to make a reference to a wonderfully twisted song by Alien Sex Fiend - "Drive my rocket up Uranus"... but thought it'd be a bit inappropriate.

I now see I should've done so anyway :)

We're lacking some key names in this thread. I've got a sneaky suspicion that they're taking a 'vacation' after their last posted thread.

Kewl, so their back again. Their used to be loads of them about around 10 years ago, points of light that leave a red trail when they zoom off.

Probably just the aliens getting ready for 2012, nothing to worry about (yet) Razz

Just so I can stay ahead. What's the next scheduled apocalyptic event after December 21st (or 23rd) 2012?
