Hello everyone. I have a question to pose to the masses. How do you, be a carebear?

I'm not understanding it. I've lived almost my entire game career in 0.0 or lowsec. Im use to triple 1.8 rat spawns, and mining ABC ores, and salvaging mounds of T2/T1 ships for isk. Its never boring out there. Now, i've recently moved back to empire and rebuilding my BPO portfolio, and... Im bored. I've done tons of missions (enough to bring my Gallente standing back from -3.8 to +1.2) I've filled out my BPOs, starting to research them.. but.. Im bored.

What do you guys, the career carebears I often jest about (out of love mind you) do it? What keeps you going in Empire?

Easy. Do whatever you must to avoid all risks. Combat pvp, market pvp, any kind of pvp. People not willing to take a chance are carebears.

Avoid all risks... But what if the situation has more reward for little more risk? Do I avoid that too?

OP: Did you get a lobotomy or something? 0.0 & low sec is where the best fun is.
Like when the missiles are flying and you're charging in, MWD on full and half the overview is blinking red.
Quite a sensation :)

Yeah I did =( I had a ton of fun with a group of guys I loved (in the manly way of course) then we joined Iron. By far the worst run, most ignorant large group of so-called professionals in the game. For the 2 weeks I was there.. it was just bad.. just really bad, things we joke around with came true..

Hmm, that sounds like good advise, thanks =) I'll keep that in mind. No risk. None whatso ever. Execpt when I have to use the Carebear stare...
Gonna have to change my bio to:

"Love-a-lot Bear believes in the power of love, but is not afraid to help it along. She's a pretty and perky bear who loves everything about love and tries to make it grow wherever she goes."

3. ????
4. PROFIT!

While I am not exactly the career carebear you are looking for, I did spend a huge chunk of my game time missioning in empire without getting bored. What kept me going was the prospect of pimping my ship ever better to finish the missions ever faster, and never using that permatank sillyness that makes you finish missions slower and bore yourself to death. I maximize gank and tank as little as I can get away with. This makes missions faster and more interesting, as fking up actually CAN result in some very tight situations...

Otoh, I am often bored out of my mind in 0.0 when all the belts are empty, or when a PvP gang goes on for two hours without any real targets...

I dunno, sounds to me like you've got a pretty good handle on the whole carebear thing already. Maybe try flipping a can or two?

Low-sec is probably the most exciting space to live in. I know a few alliances that are based in 0.0 space which forge a living being between 0.0 alliances and empire space.

Its simple. The 80% of people who live in empire and never once have a thought about doing anything past fattening their wallet for no reason other than to have a fat wallet pay the rent to CCP so the 20% of the adventurous players can pew pew in 0.0 to their hearts content. Wink

For me, it's a matter of personality as well as interests in the game.

See, I really don't like (combat) PVP in pretty much any online game I've played, so I try to avoid it when possible. Knowing this, I am content with doing missions and mining, as I get my combat-needs fulfilled by the missions and my industrial needs by mining. My very very veeery longterm goal in EVE is to have one of each T1 non-capital ship BPO and that takes a lot of isk. By going out to 0.0 I would probably get more isk per hour than in Empire, but the risk would also be much greater and, knowing how it was when I was in Curse Alliance and later Keiretsu, that would mean I would loose a lot of ships, maybe even a clone, and that decreases my profit. So by having something to work for, like my plan for the BPOs, and accepting that 0.0 sucks for me, it is a whole lot easier to keep going in Empire.

Now, with that said, I am not a total carebear. I do have my occasional "I am so F'in bored, I think I'll fit a T1 cruiser, jump into the closes 0.0 and take on whatever I can there"-fits. They are fun while it lasts, but annoying to get back to Empire safely in a pod, provided it lives, of course. So to take the middle road, I applied my corp (just me and my alts) for the Gallente Militia. Factional Warfare was really fun on Singularity and from what I've read, it's even more so on TQ, so I expect to get the adrenaline running again while I am out there. But when it gets too much, I will retract into Gallente Space again for a while, do my own stuff and then come back. It's probably the best thing that ever happened in EVE for me... Very Happy

Fascinating:

you find mission running boring but chaining triple rat spawn fun? Beside the fact that you will get better isk, ratting is way boring than mission. Mission you at least need to think about what you are doing. Against belt rat you have always the upepr hand.

Mining: identical, beside the isk hour return again

PvP: 2 hour of waiting for the fleet to form, 30 seconds of combat, wonderful.

I have some authority on this subject....Cool

There are several types of Carebears. Only one is a "true" Carebear, the others might be better called "industrialists", although the various types blur into each other.

The "TRUE" Carebear

========================================
The true carebear does not want non-concensual pvp to even EXIST in his game. This goes BEYOND simple pvp and risk avoidance. In spite of what some claim, these guys are not common, not even in empire.

The "Pacifist" Carebear

====================================
The Pacifist bear recognizes that pvp is the heart of Eve, but in his heart of hearts, want to avoid all pvp. He like the high sec game, and is highly annoyed when pvp sneeks in. While he does not complain that pvp exists, he thinks it should be a low sec/0.0 thing plus war decs, and otherwise rare in high sec.

He has no problem with better stuff being available only in low sec and 0.0, but demands a few profitable options of his own.

These guys are EXTREMELY common in high sec. I mostly respect this type of bear's playing style, even if I am not this type of bear.

The "Sad" 0.0 Carebear

==================================
This bear lives or frequents low sec and/or 0.0, but still avoids all pvp as much as possible. If his alliance is attacked, he is utterly worthless. These guys are the "victim" species in 0.0 (although experienced Sad Bears can be pretty hard to kill).

These players will usually be willing to pay taxes and fees to live in a good area. However, if they form groups and live as "pets", they are usually exceptionally riddled with spies, as they often have NO security against spy recruitment, and focus more on avoiding corp theft.

I don't mind these guys, and even respect them when they are honest about themselves. So long as they pay rent and take some advice on "reducing" (not eliminating, as that is impossible) spies, I'm happy to have em around.

Some folks call these guys "slaves", which is wrong. Slaves can't emo-quit their corp and go home to empire. These guys can quit any time. Also, taxes or not, the smarter of these guys can make a LOT of isk.

The "Industrialist" CareBear (me)

=====================================
This bear fully respects pvp, but is more focused on industry. However, when pvp is needed, he WILL drop carebearing and strap on a pvp hull, and he will have pvp skills trained.

This bear is NOT worthless for pvp groups, but he often has important Industrial jobs for them (such as keeping their POSs running, even in the event of invasion)

As with "Sad Bears", this bear "Earns" his keep in 0.0 with his labor. Also like "Sad Bears", some of these bears can get filthy filthy rich, even after their taxes. The big difference is that these bears don't mind being told to pvp now and them, although they do expect folks giving such orders to understand that a lot of 0.0 industry needs regular maintanance that CANNOT wait (unless you dont mind POSs going off line, or worse..).

The "Chucky" Carebear

===================================
At first glance, this bear looks one of the above carebear breeds. He does the same things they do. But don't be fooled. This guy is a blood thirsty butcher.

However, this guy IS an Eve Industry player (Carebear), NOT a pvper who does a bit of carebearing now and then. The distinction is subtle but true.

The pvper who is carebearing is just making some isk for more pvp. The "Chucky" bear is EXACTLY like other bears in that he take PRIDE in his carebearing. Fine tuned industry at its best, and he made it happen!! However, once his POSs are fueled, his build orders underway, and his assets moved as needed, he will often strap on a combat ship and be found 40 jumps away killing anything and everything.

I work with a lot of Chucky Bears. They are scary.

For you I'd suggest joining FW, you'll get your pew pew in, while still being close to high sec

Yes, exactly, it is boring and you need to look local and warp to a safe/cloak till they go away.

Still boring.
