intro:-
just saying....
i started a "will FW be just blobs vs blobs" discussion thread earlier. i was holding the positive point while everyone replied holds the opposite point.

anyway that's not the main topic today.

Are spamming jetson cans at a camp try to lag out victims allowed?

I recently joined a militia.
docked in a warzone station after a day of fleet work.

when i undock i experience long, very long black screens, when my overview and everything is loaded, i am already 20+ km from the station.
Now getting to the main point, the overview just had two hostile ships and the rest is filed with yellow cans. Shocked
My sniping ship died ofcourse. so i thought the attackers are using exploits to lag out the victims, should i petition for a reimbursement?

Well i did, as usual the kind GM said loads of kind words, (thanks youSmile) at the end he said they only reimburse ships lost due to server side problems, which i fully understand.
i replied the GM saying that the attackers used exploit to kill my ship (although i described the situation clearly, this time i stressed it), the GM replies another load of kind words. (thank you againSmile) at the end he said that they cannot reimburse it.

Now i r confused, so i come onto the forum for a noob question:
Are spamming jetson cans at a camp try to lag out victims allowed?

Thanks

So what's to say that the cans were put there intentionally and not just leftovers from salvaged wrecks? And how many cans were there? If there were more than a hundred, screenshot it and include a link to it in the petition. Consider escalating it if your case is strong enough.

Intentionally spamming cans or the like to cause lag is an exploit. Intentionally doing anything with the express purpose of causing lag is an exploit.

If those cans just happened to be there, however, theres no exploit. Intention is everything. Losing your ship just because of incidental conditions doesn't instantly constitute an exploit.

well, the first line was placed there just for fun Surprised.

no screen shot was taken at that point, well to be percised i was half dead when "the camara drones is back online".

Number of cans were present/were they salvaged..well i actually have no idea.

But i have to post this here to rise people's awareness of some entity is possiblly using such exploit camping.
And at the same time trying to get some dev come out and own me with the precise numbers.
"CCP *****
The log shows only there were only 18 cans, 2 hostiles so your overview is showing all of them, and the 18 cans were all salvaged.
We did had a bit system lag that moment, our hamsters was on break."

Above is faked. if a dev come out and said that...i ll go back to my rock and never return.Embarassed

It's unlikely that the GM in question would post on the forums specifically regarding your petition...they usually only do that to out ISK buyers. Laughing

But if you are in a situation where you find there are suspicious conditions and more cans than you would reasonable expect to see or a bunch of can jettisoned in a line, I would screenshot it and petition it.

More to the point: putting up cans for the purpose of uncloaking a ship immediatly when they enter low/0.0 system so as to lock and kill. This I've heard is an exploit.

It would take a lot of cans though to prove it.

From my personal experience with exploits:

Our logs do not show that this is what happened, therefore we cannot reimburse you.

Don't even bother. No matter what happens, their logs won't show it.

Spamming cans around gates and stations will cause the gate/station guns to cycle through all of your cans as well as firing on you.

In effect it allows you to "tank" sentry guns much more easily. Guns should ignore cans but they don't. If it wasn't a lag spike it was probably something to do with tanking gate guns.

afaik its not considered an exploit, but it does give your foes a damn good arguement for getting their ships back.

also PS, remove cans from overview

This is really just a variation of the lag bomb i.e. flying a transport ship into a system loaded with built shuttles. suicide gankers hit it and some 200 shuttles spread out crashing the system.

That tactic, while amusing as hell, was deemed a bannable offense for the lag it caused.

Unfortunatly spreading cans into a system does the same thing. In my own system we have a guy that likes to write stuff in the form of cans outside the most used station at about 250km away and that has caused longer undock periods.

And theres also the tidbit that has been spreading around about placing cans around a stargate that not only lags you but decloaks you too as your within 2000 meters of a collidable object.

It's like they say, where theres a will, theres an exploit and there will always be people who will go through a lot of trouble to find a cheap tactic or a way to cheat.

Also I must note if there were only 2 ships and 18 cans on your overview your system or ISP connection must really suck.

You are jumping to conclusions.

You petitioned and basically got a reply saying no exploit was used. This could mean one of (at least) two things:
1) Spamming cans is not an exploit;
2) The cans were not spammed.

Option 1) would contradict earlier statements, option 2) is in agreement with earlier statements. Why are you assuming 1) is the case?

This. If the logs are in fact consulted, they can't be very accurate or comprehensive.

Exploit or not.. why would an attacker get satisfaction blowing up ship knowing that the other side has not loaded there screen, can't fight back, can't rep? Thats worse than shooting npc's as a form of entertainment, at least npc's shoot back.
