Drones Targeting

Drones do not always concentrate their targeting on one ship despite me having set the option for them to do so under the drone settings.

- What are you doing when the problem occurs? - Running missions. I've noticed it in several different missions against different targets.
- Does it happen all the time, or just sometimes? - Happens sometimes. I havent noticed any patterns. Occasionally when the drones are left to their own devices on aggressive, they will seek different targets despite having the option set to all pick the same target.
- How often does it happen? - On average it is every mission.
- When did your problem start? - After the recent patch that added in this option to allow drone targeting (I remember before this patch some effort was made to fix this problem as it used to happen before)
- Does it only effect one character, one ship, one client installations, etc? - I only use one character for combat, so yes. Happens to different ships. I only have one client installation.

Player Docking

Sometimes when I right click in space and select 'dock' at a station in system, the ship flies to 0m, I get the "docking permission requested" and then nothing else happens. I have to resubmit a new docking request manually to get it accepted.

- What are you doing when the problem occurs? - Right clicking in space, going to the station menu and selecting the 'dock' option.
- Does it happen all the time, or just sometimes? - Happens occasionally. I'm not doing anything different.
- How often does it happen? - Roughly about 20% of the time if I had to guess.
- When did your problem start? - This has occurred since I started playing EVE in 2006 and has happened ever since.
- Does it only effect one character, one ship, one client installations, etc? - Happens to all characters, all ships. I only have one client installation.

Overview Repositioning

When hitting ctrl+F9 during a mission to get a nice view of what I'm fighting, when I press this again to go back to my normal interface, any locked target icons I had now appear behind the overview windows. It is difficult to reposition and sometimes not possible. However the problem does seem to sometimes rectify itself after one of the locked targets is destroyed. When this happens, the other locked targets 'jump' back to being to the left of my overview. On other occasions, they stay where they are.

- What are you doing when the problem occurs? - Running a mission with targets locked.
- Does it happen all the time, or just sometimes? - All the time. As stated above, the locked icons will sometiems revert to previous positions after a target is destroyed, and sometimes if a new target is locked. This does not always work though.
- How often does it happen? - Every time I have hit Ctrl+F9 whilst having targets locked.
- When did your problem start? - After the most recent patch
- Does it only effect one character, one ship, one client installations, etc? - I only use one character for combat. Happens with all ships. I only have one client installation.

To anyone wh is reading this; please reply if you experience similar problems, or also if you do not.
To be most helpful, please categorise which of my three issues you are replying to.

Thanks.

WOuld be good if CCP could fix this.

As for your drone option, and overview problem, i have never encountered. So good luck getting them fixed.

The docking issue occurs for me, but not 20% of the time. Still its probably at least 1/20 of the time.

I didn't bother to report it, because I knew that this is the sort of thing devs blow off as a "feature".

The excuse will be that the fictitious space traffic controller was temporarily spaced out, so you had to ask twice. Or some other fiction that explains the buggy behavior.

I believe there have also been times when I docked, got into the station and then quickly killed the client, because I needed to go do something else. Then when I later came back to the game I found myself floating in space, have never docked after all. After a couple of those I wait 30 seconds in station before quitting the client.

My UI randomly decides that the targets etc all need to go off screen

(single monitor, Evga 8800gts 320, 2gb DDR400, AMD 3800x2, etc...)

I do get the dock or maybe just knock on the station with my ship instead issue about 20% of the time. This is various stations from Jita through to Deltole and Amarr.

The drone and docking issue occur for me on a regular basis.

I've learned never to dock and go AFK without confirming I'm actually in the station. And I've also mapped a key for drone control so it's easy enough to redirect them to the right target. Obviously neither fixes the problem but knowing the issue exists is half the battle. Smile

Also not docking... every time. Also, my overview corp column is blank, no corp tickers at all.

Woooops!

I'm tired, I misread report for reply so could the GMs please ignore that report I just put in! Embarassed

What I meant to say was:

I get the drone and docking problems myself. I don't generally play with the overview during combat so I've not seen that issue.

I have the docking issue, it happens... randomly... I play with 2-3 clients, 90% of the time, 2 clients are in space. 5% it's 1 client, 5% all three.

I usually hit the 'dock' button within 10 seconds of each other. Sometimes the first one spaces out and the second one gets in, sometimes it's the other way around. Only very rarely (1/100) does it happen to both.

================================================================================

I also experience the 'Drone Issue' during missions. However, I think it is more 'lag' than anything. Sometimes I notice a slight freeze after an NPC has been killed, then the next moment the drones are attacking 2 targets, usually they end up near each other and the same type.

Never has it been two targets on the opposite sides, nor two targets or different type (Type being the name of the NPC). So yeah, I put it down to lag... Although, it is annoying.

===========================

As for the Overview Issue, I don't really play around with the different views during battle, I get too distracted otherwise

I get the docking problem. I know it's a problem so... when I come out of warp, I spam the dock button until I do. I never ever ever press dock and walk away, knowing that this problem exists.

I play 2 accounts on one computer. I can't tell you how often it happens because of what I do, but I test it now and then and I know it still occurs. Now, I really just use that button to "warp to zero" to the station.

It would definitely be nice if it worked, but I still don't think I'd trust it.

VERY excellent post Senghir!

Oddly enough for all three issues it basically comes down to the order in which the game logic is applied. Occasionally things will just come in the wrong order and cause a hiccup.

Though we are aware of all three issues, unfortunately I cannot give any ETA on a fix for either one. However those of you who experience these issues should submit a bug report with info just like what Senghir posted. This will give us better idea of how widespread the issue is so that we can prioritize it appropriately.

I have the drone issue and the docking issue, but I don't use ctrl+f9 so I'm not sure if I have the last issue. The docking thing I filed as a bug (#54207) a few months ago, but it got filtered with a request to provide a debug logfile. I tried briefly to get a log of the problem while running one client with the debug logger, but couldn't reproduce it... which makes me think docking failures could be a multi-client issue... but if Senghir ran into the issue only running one client, perhaps running the logger itself prevents whatever race condition causes the docking bug.

Game logic suggestions:
Drone targetting-
If drone target is no longer available, find some other drone with a target that still exists and assist that drone.
If a drone is idle and any other drone is attacking something, go help the active drone (any active drone, I don't care which one) rather than attacking the next hostile that shoots at the player.
If all drones are inactive and one decides to attack something, make all the other drones attack that same target. If they're all deciding on targets asynchronously, stick their async-chosen targets in a list and have them all use that list for targeting purposes.

Docking --
I don't understand the difficulty here. Dock means dock. Autopilot (or simply the jump command) never fails to jump to a new system that I've noticed, at least not unless a fleet is jumping through, so why should docking ever fail to dock? They're both session changes, right? What's the difference?
