After reading some discussions about the 'local' channel, I realised how detracted the chat in Eve really is. The chat is integrated in the UI but not integrated into the game in itself in any way, except for 'local' and 'region' channels. Wouldn't it be great to fly up to a station and getting an incoming radio communication demanding your intention. Some scenes from Star Wars come to mind here, when Han and crew fly onto the Star destroyer. What do you think about the following idea: - The 'local' channel remains present but is implemented by a station
module. - Such module is present in all NPC owned stations
- The module opens communication channels with other stations
- The module will scan for new schips and tries to establish
radio communication with such ships - Naturally there in setting up communication, causing a delay
before new ships show up on a shared chat such as local - The initial communication can be distorted by interferences
such as moons, planets, stars. - The scanner is a very sophisticated system-wide scanner looking
for differences in the system, and thus picks up all movement - Stations also contains a station chat, which can be accessed
from the outside by connecting specifically to that station - POS's can contain such a module, but don't have to, thus a 'local'
wouldn't exist in such a system. - Capital ships could also contain such a module
The above doesn't implement the star wars scene, but does make communication perhaps somewhat more game-related. Any thoughts, -Durkanis |

Sounds like alot of work for an already annoying feature. When I play, I usually just click down my chat panel anyways... |

In systems with NPC stations all this would happen automatically, unless you specifically desire to change how your ship responds to incoming radio communications |

There is no radio communication in eve... It all gets done using a spatial location agnostic device using photon's quantum entanglement. Thus the local chat is transmitted to wherever the matching photons are stored. |

So Local chat doesn't go to church? I still agree with a lot of the other suggestions. Local shouldn't display anyone unless they speak out. That way, you only know the people who are "transmitting". If you want to know the others, then do a system-wide scan. Of course, that wouldn't reveal those darned Cloaked lurkers. |
