Moon Prospection Post

The Moon Prospection Post (MPP) is a POS Module that allows to search for smaller deposits of valuable materials on moons and mine them.

The MPP has two modes it can run: Prospecting and Mining.

Prospecting takes somewhere around 8 hours (depending on balancing) after which the found deposit will be shown and the kind and amount of material available are given. What material can be found and how much is entirely random. The roll on the table is only modified by the security rating of the system the POS is set up and not by the type of moon. The MPP is completely independent from the moon seed. A result can be scrapped by restarting a new prospecting cycle.

The mining mode will function like a normal moon miner, maybe somewhat slower. The mined material will be stored in a small hangar in the MPP. Once the deposit is mined out or the hangar is full, the MPP will turn idle automatically. Silos and reactors cannot be attached to a MPP.

The MPP will be a non-static source of moon materials. While being limited in amount, unreliable and less efficient than the main deposits of the moons it will lessen the impact of moon material monopolies and widens the bottleneck of certain materials, like dysprosium.

The amount of MPPs that may be anchored at a POS need to be limited either by fitting requirements or a hard number to balance its significance with the static moon mining.

As the MPP is using its own code and tables, it is easier to implement than methods requiring modifications of existing seeds. It is basically a stand-alone module with everything integrated in itself and isolated from everything else, only tapping in the basic POS module functionality.

Constructive input to further develop and refine this idea is welcome.

Heh, and here I thought people would be jumping all over this. Did I miss when the moon mining issue was resolved?

(one friendly bump and then it can die)

Hi Abrazzar,

the idea itself is maybe not bad, but I would prefer a ship based solution. I discussed with others in past a idea about a moon mining ship (cannot find the link to thread atm).
Moon mining ship: Size between covie and bs, one high end –long range mining laser (range 100-250 km or maybe higher if a geosynchronus orbit is needed) which will make it possible to mine moons and maybe lifefree planets (maybe also a ice mining laser version). Optional some kind of material compression bay.

How would it work: fly into to a planet or moon and orbit it. Scan the moon/planet for materials and ore, activated the laser (cycle 10 mins??). The result of this mining will be lower than a pos. Mining at high sec should also be possible but this will require some kind of starbase charters, which can only be bought at LP stores, and maybe requires a minimum standing to the faction the solarsystem belongs to (+7 or +8?).

Regarding the kinds of materials which can be found – any, but the more high the sec level, the less precious materials can be found.
Like asteroid belts the oreveins at the moons/planets can be emptied, but will respawn after a week ..or so…maybe in different distribution of materials (its a question if only a high sec, or if it should be basicly work for any kind of moon mining. This way also the problem can be solved, where big corps/alliances having precious ore moons at 0.0 and sitting like a fat duck on it as isk machine, and defend it with teeth and claws – from time to time they have to move the pos or mine some other kind of material (maybe at 0.0 the planets/moons will give more materials of the same tiype until emptied).
Finaly from the economic view such a ship will not be as effective like a pos, but will also allow single players do this way of mining

I know, this Idea will not make happy any guys – especial these which have 0.0 today as isk machine from moom mining, but in my point of view it would be fair to players at high sec to open this kind of gameplay to them, because they are the main part of players and keep eve living with the monthly fee – not the 10-20% players at 0.0.

Sorry, does not answer your question about the pos modules above, but I value you constructively kind of discussion and I think (because I speaking also of some kind of prospecting) it will fit into this thread.

I think this is a pretty good idea, actually. Not only does it give a valuable moon's starbase something to do on the side with its extra grid or CPU... It gives the owners of less than valuable moons the chance to hit pay dirt.

What would be cool is if there were secondary layers on moons... High Orbit Platforms for more space-oriented logistics, and Low Orbit Platforms, for mining, prospecting, and other things where a high orbit is not necessary. I would totally use my LOP space for moon prospecting, since the randomness would useful for lower quality moons. Total sign. :D

This is a much more elegant solution than most posted. I support it.

Due to the recent appearance of the moon material issue, I am bumping this thread as my contribution to the discussion. Wink

The Moon Prospecting Post might be a good solution for the "Strike it Rich" mechanic CCP Chronotis mentioned as a future feature in moon mining.

Bump due to the relevance to the current situation.

I understood that you want more moon material "deposits". CCP already gave it -> Alchemy

The current situation is affecting the T2 market, but we need to wait considerable period of time before we see how much this exploit has really affected the market. And i assume that theres still large stocks of te exploited materials. After we see where the prices stabilise, then more moon materials or perhaps reduced manufacturing needs might become necessary.

Meanwhile it might be good idea to ease the pos management to make the moon material flow more flexible into the market.

3 suggestions...

1. Ability to make NPC pos fuels from moon materials. Like Oxygen and Coolant from Atmospheric Gases.

2. Ability to convert Isotopes types

3. POS deployer capital ship. Can deploy preonlined and fitted towers and modules. Also capable to scoop online tower+modules if needed to change location. This might be a bit of a Laughing idea tho...

This is probably a question that has been answered but im kinda new to the POS world in Eve. Is there a reason .4 systems are not mineable and would this help increase supplies of moon material if they were opened up?
