ECM tanking is the proverbial GOTO in the field of ship fittings.
With the introduction of the blackbird, scorpion, and later the falcon a new sort of tanking became much more popular among newer players. ECM tanking, not to be confused with buffer tank(just added hp to survive an assault)usually focuses around the use of ECM, Signal Distortion, and ECM rigs.
The draw of a ship with the ability to 100% ignore any sort of micromanaging that is normally associated with tanking is a great draw. With even cheap T1 gear a new player can fit out a Scorion that is able to tank well beyond what they could achieve with shield or armor tanking.
With this convenience comes a price; questions like "How do I ECM tank my Raven", "How do I ECM tank my Maelstrom", or (gods help me) "How do I ECM tank my abaddon?"
ECM tanking has given new players the ability to progress while remaining completely frickin oblivions to the way that tanking works in the game with BS sized ships, or with ships in pvp.
Thanks to this, there is always a lot of drama when a EFT-wielding falcon pilot finally comes face-to-face with a player who ABSOLUTELY SLAUGHTERS their poor ECM ship.
Often they are mocked for their choice of ship, and when they are finally convinced that they need to change their setup they realize they have exactly NO FRIGGIN CLUE how to fit a real tank. Not only that, the cap skills they neglected early on rear their ugly head, as they are not required to have any sort of decent active tank.

Personally, I think the "Passive Tank is Considered Harmful" thread really needed to be skewered by something like this. For satire, I give the OP a 7/10. Pretty good. |
