That's so cool. I'm on the other end of CA's guns at the moment, but I love that the players who've worked hard to mold the galaxy are finally being paid their due respects.

What I want to know is this:

If Angel Raiders are aware of CA dominating their territory, why are their stations accepting their docking requests?

If you're going to involve NPC's/PC's, you can't go halfway. It has to be full on interaction.

The general idea was that the station personnel had been killed and replaced, or were being kept on as neutral contractors, not having been Angel personnel per se. It can be clarified and expanded in a future installment if need be, but for now your suspension of disbelief will have to suffice. It's not the main part of the story, though, and while I understand your concern for consistency I'm content to let things be as they are at the moment, letting players' imaginations pick up the slack.

Our goal with this story was to give some indication to the players that there's new things on the horizon story-wise and that we're going to start finding ways to involve players in the storyline and the prime fiction to a greater extent than before. As with any journey into new territory there are bound to be a few missteps on the way, and we'll just have to suck it up and move on. It could be said that we're going halfway, but at least we're not standing still anymore.

Sorry if this has already been answered, but I wasn't able to find anything "meaty" answer-wise:

I'm all for players becoming canon and the like, but will this sort of "attention" be restricted to the major alliances and Corporations of EVE? Or will the individual be able to make their mark?

Personally, I've noticed a great deal of the more effective Roleplay/story-telling out there has been done by individuals, rather than groups.

Yes, my view on this is biased (I've never liked those who go out of their way for attention....), but it's something I'm a little irky about.

Finally....can we get more of that nifty artwork based around players? ;p

I don't have strong enough words to declare my distaste for this post and the unbelievable immaturity and rudeness in it.

This sort of knee-jerk (not to mention foul-mouthed) reaction to an honest (and excellent) attempt to involve the players in the storyline is exactly what stands between the total integration of players and plot.

When faction standing means more and so do corporation standings (docking rights etc) the stories like these will be far more immersive (perhaps - they may also be less necessary if you follow my drift).

In the meantime this works for me...

The only thing that is missing, maybe, are some more personable NPC individuals, but even that may be on the cards somewhere down the line. Smile

Last time CCP tried this they backed off because of the whining and accusations of favoritism. Don't listen to them this time, CCP, this is great stuff!

Much like the community videos section, are there any plans to take the good pieces of player-submitted fiction from the Library forum and put them someplace special on the website?

I find the dev's attempt to blend the two VERY refreshing!!!

I'm curious if you're going to go about at random and grab information for stories like this, if you're going to concentrate on larger player concentrations (such as large pirate corps & alliances) or if you'll look for smaller groups as well, or try to get emergent information, things of that nature...
I'm also curious if you'll take requests or simply pick at random...

The system hasn't been formalized yet (we're going to start work on that as soon as May rolls around), but the plan is to not restrict storyline attention to any particular type or size of player faction. This means that yes, smaller corporations (and, in some cases, individuals) will get spotlighted by us via this regular-interval feature. Whether or not we'll take requests is undecided at this point.

When it comes to the news themselves, the larger factions, lent increased political clout by virtue of sheer size, are more likely to be able to have an effect, but it all depends on what people do. In general, inventiveness and originality will be rewarded by exposure.

Ideally, the ultimate goal would be to make these two storylines into one and the same, so there would be no contention, no "This is what's going on in the CCP storyline and this is what's going on in the real game itself" division. It's going to take some changes, but it's what we want to strive for. Great initative, Riddari. I'll see what we can do to participate.

I'm game for combining the storylines. My comment was in regards to CCP not having had anything player related (except for Amarr championships) published. Now that it is changing it looks much better for us all.

Uhhhh...because the Emperor thing happened ages ago, and this is a new initiative? Besides, IIRC the incident was mentioned in the news at least.

I do have a few concerns regarding this chronicle:

1. Is this simply just a story or a precursor to devs planning a major assault on CA using the Angel Cartel? If not, why the Angel Cartel? Why not Sansha's Nation, Guristas or the Serpentis Corporation? All have their home regions occupied by player alliances.

2. Will there be another chronicle explaining why the npc pirate factions have infinite cap, missles, targetting range, march stubbornly to their death and attack those with high faction rating with them?

3. Where did Shan's egg go? In the story it said it was in the jovian egg piloting the ship.

4.The roid fields in Curse, as I am sure is the case in most pirate regions since castor, have barely been touched. Its not worth it to lose ships mining veldspar.

The "Why Angels, why Curse" question was clarified on page 1 of this thread. And if this were a precursor to something, why would we spoil the surprise? Wink

As regards your other questions, I gave a similar explanation in response to an earlier post, but maybe a rephrasing and deepening is in order.

This chronicle wasn't intended as an explanation of anything; it was intended both as a vehicle for showcasing our intention to draw players more into the storyline, and as a dramatic representation of a commonplace activity for players to indulge in -- namely, NPC rat hunting. NPC rat hunting seen from the other side, if you will. It's true that some of the statistical facts of the game -- some of which may be necessary to make the game itself enjoyable to play, others of which are due to aspects of the game not being fully in place yet -- don't lend themselves well to believable dramatization.

However, I ask you to keep in mind that if we were continually scrambling to cover up every potential factual hole by virtue of endless explanation, the story would likely bore you to sleep before you got halfway through reading it. And since we're in the early stages of covering player-related ground in the news and fiction, we are bound to make mistakes along the way. It happens. As I stated earlier in the thread, your own suspended disbelief will have to smooth out whatever factual discrepancies you can find.

If that hampers your enjoyment of the story, then I'm sorry to hear that. But the choice to let it, nevertheless, is yours alone.

well, as everyone knows by now, the Angels - and all the others - WILL be getting smarter, and stronger, after all... very cool. ATM hordes of cruisers and missilefrigs just *pop*ing into existance, and mindlessly charging and just as quickly popping OUT of it shortly thereafter, just gets silly...

what i've often wondered is how the quasi-outlaw Thukkers feel about the outlaw Angels let alone the third-party mix of CA, The Most Popular Alliance Evah...

i think Thukker agents should concentrate a lot more on sending us after Angel command staff ,-). I keep trying to convince the one near me to come down after the CVA with us, but he's SUCH an alliance carebear...

Can we expect the non-"main" sovereignties to take an interest in all this ramped-up activity in their systems? First the pirates, then the alliances, now both are getting supercharges... it's enough to make a regional petty dictator all hot and bothered, i'm sure... tho tbh i would prefer to be allied with the Thukker against the Archangels than fight them, heh

This story was just realy cool. That it involved PC and PC corps just made it even better. I dont care at all about why this group of PC/NPC was chosen for the story and dont see why anyone should care. People should be happy for BOS and not unhappy for them selfes.

I dont either care about the logical details why we can use pirates station, why pirates have endless cap ect. Those issues dont matter. Its the big picture, the story of Eve (CCP+PC) that maters to me, not insignificant detail. So keep theese coming.

In star treck(any other show), why is the captain of a 200 people ship allways sent alone on to the newly discovered “uninhabited”/poisonus/no air/monsters planet. WHO CARES that it doesnt make sense, if the story is good :)

To those worryed that theyre aliance will be targeted by the story team and the Angels start fighting back with more vior, you should wish for that. You will be the ones having the most fun even if the other alliances wont have as a hard time and you think your treated “unfairly”.

Right you are, and yes, you can expect more story and in-game interaction from the smaller factions. We can't make any promises at this time as to how soon (there's that word again), but one of our long-term goals is to make the NPC factions into a dynamic, responsive in-game entity.

Why is it their apocs have such an easy time dispatching interceptors where as ours will fire shot after shot and never get anything more than a barley miss :(

PS I welcome anything that brings players into the story. Makes what all the alliances, solo corps and individual pilots are doing out there mean something. Who knows, one of these days your actions may get you your 15mins of fame :)

All I ask is that you please, please please do your best to keep the stories unbiased. If this is an example of what is to come, then your on the right lines.
