Anychance that I might get concorded for randomly spamming these in empire? If then how?

Without knowing for sure but with the nature of FoF's in mind I'd say you are pretty much guaranteed to be popped by the mighty CONCORD forces when launching them (as long as there is a target in range).

You really ought not to, as FOFs should attack the nearest hostile target. Specifically, I presume the FOFs' idea of "hostile" and CONCORD's idea of "allowed to attack" are the same thing. Now if the missiles are really buggy, it is possible you could lose your ship. But in this case I think you would be entirely justified in petitioning it.

It's not really any different from the wonderful AI of drones popping a legitimate target, and then deciding they'll go after the player sitting on the gate. We know that drones have even worse AI than FOFs, yet no-one says not to use drones in empire as they'll bring CONCORD on you. Unless there are specific horror stories and it's a known issue, you should be fine to use them. At the very least you ought to get reimbursed if the FOFs get you CONCORDed.

No, you cannot randomly spam these unless something causes combat aggression first - either you or the target. An error message will tell you that the launchers cannot find a target. Also, they are safe because they follow the same rules of aggression - either you or the target has to shoot the other party first in the past 15 minutes. Note that stealing is not a combat aggression.

For rats, it works a bit differently - it is an on/off switch - ON: shoot every rat and structure - OFF: no target found.

Drones were recently bug fixed as well. Before Trinity, drones will get you a GCC flag by attacking someone when aggression was exchanged over 15 minutes ago. This is no longer the case.

FOF never had this problem, at least not since RMR.

Now I don't use these but I was under the impression that FoF (Friend or Foe) missiles would go wild on ANY target, NPC, structure, enemy OR friendly gang mate/pilot within its range...?

The FoF were changed at some point, but it seems like no one dared to use them after the patch, fearing the stupid missiles to hit a neutral target...

Sooo... Anyone wants to test this on multiplicity? So we know once and for all?

Last time I did a mission with a non-corp gang mate was before war, about 7 days ago, and I was using FOF the whole time in a level 4 mission. He targeted me and put shield drones on my ship. I still have my ship, so obviously it works safely.

FoF missiles will attack anyone/thing who is either hostile to you, or has attacked you, or you have attacked. They can't initiate aggression, so you shouldn't get concorded for using them.

The good: you can attack without a target lock or while jammed, which is great when you're in a huge ship and have a lock time on frigs measured in minutes, or when you're being jammed by those same frigs.

The bad: If you're in a fleet and loot each others' wrecks, FoFs WILL attack your fleet-mates. They also always go for the closest "enemy" first, even if they are an NPC building, eg silo, or an unarmed ship. At least with drones you can give them a LITTLE direction.

So their only real use is giving you a way to attack jamming/tackling frigs, which they do pretty damn well actually.

This is mostly useful for afk passive tanking fof drakes running lvl 3 missions easy too...
But I don't see how it makes things interesting...

for looting, it should not raise aggression flag if you share +10 standings.

trained fof 1 just to test it. Activating it anywhere it only give me the same message as defenders; "<module name> cant find any valid target".

Did it later with a belt rat 31km away from me, but it would'nt activate untill I had gotten very close to the rat - about 18km or so and it had already locked me by then.

Shoot I expected random missiles flying around when you fired fof with no targets nearby. Just like when I during exodus popped one of my targets before my light missiles hit it and the missiles went whack flying around randomly, one even in circles untill they exploded.

Flawed statement because:

1) One cannot "steal" from fleet mates in the same grid

2) FOF doesn't attack thiefs anyway

Because you haven't primed your FOF missiles by getting shot at or shooting a rat, whether from a mission or from another belt.

All I know is that last time I tried them I could not get them to stop shooting the other ships in my gang.

This may have been caused by accidentally firing on each other. Here ... being new ... I had the auto target response set to greater than 0 and with all the jumping around in the over view that things do, probably targeted and fired on a gang mate because I had a weapon active when I was trying to lock, tried to click on the pirate and it jumped in the over view so that I clicked on my gang mate instead. At least that's my guess but that's something that happened more than once when I first started playing.

That type of thing may have been the reason the FOF's were firing on my gang mates - but since they were the closest to me - it wasn't going to shoot at anything else. Even if I had a enemy ship targeted - they would NOT engage that target - but shoot at my gang mate instead.

No more FoF missiles for me. I took to calling them Fire On Friend Missiles ...

I tried to sell the ones I'd bought but ... got no takers.

Another thing I had a bad experience with was an Auto Targeting module. "Cool I thought. I won't have to go around clicking on all those pirates - the Auto Targeter will do it for me ..."

Ha!

It targeted gas clouds ... evil enemy buildings ... anything and everything that could conceivably be hostile ... and I ran out of targeting slots before actually targeting any enemy ships ...

One more item on the trash heap of modules I tried and discarded ...

Since these wonderful experiences with AI weapons and equipment - I now manually select my targets - make sure they are the targets I intended to target, make sure to turn my weapons off if the ship they were supposed to shoot at blew up before they could fire, and don't let the computer decide to fire anything.

And yes ... before you ask ... I did spend the time to learn the Defender Missiles skill as well ...

*sigh*

More time down the drain ...
