Hello all! Just signed up to check this out for a month. I read all the golden rules/silver rules, some of the tutorials on exploration.

And have gone through most of the in game tutorials. I am sure I will need to go through it all again a few times to get in the groove of things.

Seems like there is a lot to learn.. and that I basically should trust no one.

Ha! thanks guys.. I think..

I have been going over most of the tutes in detail. I am sure I just need to get used to the terminology and all will be fine.

I know many here can't stand WoW.. and I could not agree more. I played Lineage II for some time which is more akin to this game by the sounds of it. Kill anyone who you could kill or gang up on basically.. only safe place was a town.

I choose a more economic minded character in mining/manufacturing since it seems that isk isking ;)

Just gonna mine a bit and kill some of these crummy red debils who seem to camp the roid fields.. am I correct in calling them rats?

and lastly.. I'd like a date with the person who voiced the in game tutorials Cool

Yes you are correct in calling them Rats.

as for getting a date with Aura ... stand in line ...

I remember showing a buddy of mine the game when I first started out and I was like "Oh - listen to this chick's voice. I want to marry that girl!"

Of course ... who knows what she really looks like. She could be someone's granny for all we know - but she sure has a dead sexy voice.

Oh and speaking of waves here are a few you'll see in the game:

\0 Wave with the other
\0/ Wave with both

Just strip the "Rang rang! PK OK?" from any encounter you make in low sec and you should pretty much know what will happen if you spend more than a few seconds in the same place as someone else outside of CONCORD's reach YARRRR!!.

Good that you read up on the mandatory reading. Now you can actually learn the game. Don't get discouraged in that. The learning curve is as near vertical as you'll encounter. If you have questions, your newbie corp or this forum tends to be a better place to ask than the rookie chat channel in game because people are kicked from that after 30 days in game.

Learn some skills relevant to the aspect of the game you want to focus on first. Don't worry about learning skills until you can fly your ship well enough to have fun during the 2 or so months it takes to max those out.

And remember the golden rule: Don't fly, fit or haul what you can't afford to replace.

I hear you loud and clear! I plan to keep insured where it makes sense. I need to reread it, but it seems that at some points insurance is actually only mildly worth it.

I did do some skill training. I figured I am just mining here.. might as well get the clock ticking on the ones I can upgrade.

I bought 2 skills for drones, So I could mine faster.

I looked for containers to take with me, but they all seemed more expensive than buying the next ship up which doubled my current cargo space. I looked at cargo bay expanders.. again it seemed to expensive vs buying the next ship up.. and some reduced hull integrity Shocked

This game certianly sucks you in, even on this boring mining stuff.. they made it so there is always something to do. Its like freelancer on roids.

If anyone could reccomend a noob corp that is tried true and mostly trusted ;) I would be appreciative.

I've always heard good things about Eve University as a starter corp.

And yeah - if it's just to expensive now - don't worry about it. Get it when you've got the money.

As to the Learning Skills, what you want to do - is to concentrate on skills first that will let you make some money - then go do all the Rank 1 Learning Skills ... and after you've earned some more money ... get the Rank 3 Learning Skills.

These really will pay off in the long run as you will learn other skills faster - but in the very short run while you are first starting out ... you need ships and fittings that you can earn money with while you are learning them.

Welcome to the game

remember 'Your not paranoid, they are out to get you'

Also since you read the guides and stuff you have hopefully picked up on most of the rules but here are a few you may have missed that will make your flying more fun

1) Go into options in starmap and select for auto pilot to avoid .4 and below systems (this helps you avoid getting ganked)
2) just because that guy has targetted you in highsec, dont scream like a girl and push F1-F8 and hope he dies first, since he may just be trying to bluff you out (however if you just can flipped him course he might just shoot you for fun)
3)when leaving the NPC corp, remember its what the Corp can do for you, not what you can do for them, find one that fits with how you want to play the game

4) and of course, any question post em up here (ok you might get the odd flame post but everyone is generally friendly or just sarcastic)

Hey there newer guy! Here's a tip from a seasoned newwwb (I think it's old bay seasoning actually).

GET A CORP.

Even a bad corp. You will learn tons more and get to Pvp quickly. Playing eve solo is horrific... playing it in with a group is better than any MMO out there.

Hello Urus and welcome to EVE.

Trusting no one is a healthy way to approach the game but is something of a paradox to the whole play in a group approach.

It's best to be cautious but not too defensive, you will find the majority of people you meet will want to help you, just be careful when dealing with items that mean a lot to you, cost a lot or took a long time to attain.

Really appreciate the feedback from all of you. I did not know about setting avoidances for certian sectors, I will do this as soon as I get home.

As for the corp to join: I would like to join a mining specific corp. I don't want to pvp right away. I want to amass wealth and the ability to get it faster.. sans buying "500m for $8.95 delivered in a 1/2 hour we promise"

I hear some give out dividends as well as some training books. Which would be nice :)

I know not the recruiting channel, but look up Research-Copy-Development Agency people ugh. Located in Inari at the Caldari Police Force station.

Tell them I sent you.

Contact Nikita or Verdith'anath in game for an invite to there chat channel, they'll help you even if you don't join the corp.

I find that when it comes to most any game, hobby or interest.. people usually don't like it if you just start spamming questions.

They are more apt to help those who help themselves.

Maybe Chribba saw that quality.. I spent about 3 hours reading before posting.

For a hobby I fly RC Helis.. the saying there is similar to the one here. Only fly what you can afford to lose ;)

I have a $600 heli, a $300 heli and 2 x $100 helis..

I will check that corp tonight when I get home, and PM those contacts.

Tellacula, thanks for pointing me to those folks. Currently I am in the Tedaki sector, and jumping more than 3-4 jumps is a pita until I get a little better drive system.

I did upgrade from the noob ship to a batam which (with cargo extenders) holds 3 times the dense veld :)

So again I am looking for a good corp, that helps with both info and resources. If I don't find one in a reasonable ammount of time, I may just start my own :D

I am a little peeved.. I bought a medium secure container only to find out I can't anchor it in .8-1 zone ugh because its a hazard to other ships..

I only have a couple of questions today..

do drones croak after a while? I lost one .. and I am pretty sure I asked it to go back to its bay before warping out.. Question

and what is the next logical mining ship Question Again I can haul about 400 now.. and it only cost me maybe $60k with the upgraded mining lasers and cargo extenders. So is there a ship that is like 120-300k that has nearly or more than double the storage space? more drone space and extra turrent points would be good as well.

if you want to stick with mining then have a look at the ORE Mining Barges

They are dedicated mining ships and are good at what they do.

Ignore the small one, but the medium and large one are both worth training for
Couple them with an industrial for some jet can / secure can mining and you can make good money

There is of course at cruiser level the Osprey, or the scythe. Both get a 20% bonus to mining yeild per cruiser level. so at cruiser level 5 they mine the same as what 6 lasers would do, even though they only fit 3

I usually look at the over all time to do 1 trip.

So if mining takes longer but I can haul twice as much as the ship that only holds 1/3 as much.. the ship that is slower at mining is actually a faster source of cash since 1/10th of the total time cycle is spent warping and I have to do it 3 times.. not much in the way of time optimization.

I will compare these ships, I have a feeling at my current level though, it is going to take allot of training hours to be able to pilot them.

been cheating a little.. I dock.. and just let the training timer tick away while I snooze. I am sure plenty of folks do that though.

Thanks for the info :)

Well a quick update and then i'll probably go silent here for a while. Went out 2 jumps away to .8 space and something started shooting at me.. warped out pronto and back to noobland where I mined about 650k with a bantam.. ugh!

I am about 4days from an osprey.. after advice here and in game. I am pretty set on that being the next ship. I need to train frigate 4 and cruiser 1 to get her in the air.. other less manditory (at the moment) supplementals include mining 3,4.. so I can get the next lev mining lasers, hull expanders etc..

I am now part of a corp :) which seems to be fairly well connected in the mining gig.. so I look forward to helping fill these fat mining barges we own.. until I get my own Cool

Thanks again for all the help. EvE so far is a splendid waste of time.

Err... that's the way the skill system works. ugh

You don't even have to be online for that timer to keep ticking away. Very handy, when taking a vacation for a week.

As to anchoring those canisters - they should work. I never got a message about them being a hazard to navigation ...

As for your mining drones - they don't always do what you tell them to do. So yes - you have to make sure that the thing really did scoop to the drone bay like you told it to. If you realize you've left them, you can go back and find them. It helps to include drones in your over view or you can use your scanner to spot them. Just get within 1500 meters of it and you can right click on it and scoop it into the bay.

They may not survive a reset though, so if you don't go back looking for them before the daily server reset they may be gone.

And - as has been said - if you want to get serious about mining - you want to go down the ORE Strip Miner path. You'll need some skills to get them though so getting the cruiser is probably quicker.

This is the check off list I made for myself. I copied it out of my notepad and pasted it in here. If you want to copy it from here - you can paste it into a notepad (the in game note pad) note so you'll have it in game.

I made it because I got tired of looking up the show info for the things and then made notes as to how far I'd gotten on each skill.
