The way I see it, whilst pondering the success at the mmorpg.com awards, and the comments that followed. EVE is the best sci-fi game out there because it pretty much is the only one out there, not to say it isnt great because it quite clearly is.

But a lot of people say to me, I would play EVE if I could go beyond being a ship. Others say as soon as one of the other EVElike games come out EVE will have competition/will die/will be bought by SOE etc etc

So will ambulation help EVE stand up to the other space games on the horizon, seeing as by the time we have ambulation we will be into the sort of time frame of the competition coming out. In essence will EVE be one step ahead?

There are so many things in EVE that have been done better elsewhere, someone just has to put the right parts/ideas together...

CCP really has to get into it and apply some smartness to the development process. There is still time to do so, as I can see no real competition anyway near (As astounding as that may be. Why are there no other gaming companies catering to the giant sci-fi gaming market with a decent space-mmog?).

If they do not get their act together fast, CCP and EVE are both gonna die. That is my opinion. EVE does not live because it fills a niche, but because there is no alternative. Give us something like X3 in mmo-mode, and 85% of the playerbase might run without turning back.

Ambulation is just a small step in the right direction.

There is SG:O and ST:O in the makings, but I heard bad things about ST:O allready and almost no news about SG:O. Also, there are quite alot of SciFi MMos out there, its just that they ... are not that good overall.

Some people complain that EvE feels like a beta test sometimes. I personally would rather have the MMO i play evolve than get older over time. CCP does go with the time, and as far as I can see, they are the only ones that expand their MMO as drastically (Ambulation) as they do right now. That opens a whole sphere of new possibilities.

Maybe one day we will have planetary flight. And people have their time invested in EvE. Chars that are quite a few years old. Never underestimate the sense of value people build up in MMOs for the things they gather and accomplish. It's one of the main reasons why people return to MMOs after they quit.

EvE has tons of potential. Granted it won't always be a smooth ride, and it hasn't always been a smooth ride. But damn at least I can be sure the game will be up to date and state of the art in a few years from now. Can't say that about most other MMOs really.

To be honest, the only EVE like games I've seen recently are Infinity and Black Prophecy. Infinity looks like a college project, and is not going to be a full release for years to come. BP is just for looks really. It has no way near as much depth as EVE has last time I checked, and since Trinity Premium, there is no need for it, so at least it won't be converting people.
