Does opening someone else's wreck/can flag you (if the can/wreck is yellow) or is it the actual act of looting that flags you? I recently saw a wee corp vs corp skirmish and I just wanted to see what was inside one wreck but was worried I'd be flagged (and thus pounded by a domi).

No flag for opening jet cans.

Or wrecks.

You should get a message if you try to take something warning you who it belongs to and explaining that they will have the right to shoot you if you take what's in it.

I could have sworn that I'd read somewhere that people lure in unsuspecting newbies by dropping cago and changing the name of the container to "Free Stuff!" and such, and that looting ANY container in space (other than a destroyed player ship) would give the owner of the container kill rights on you. No? Every day I see literally hundreds of cargo containers floating around. Are you saying that anyone can pick these up w/o getting flagged? Then why aren't players going around scooping all of these up? (you see ALOT of them in asteroid belts)

There's a difference between inspecting the can and looting the can. The former doesn't flag you; the latter does.
