From decent equipping/buying territory to good pirating can be 75 jumps, and if you want to bring an industrial ship along, well it's a multi-day event since most can't equip microwarp even. The empire regions should have (for lack of a better term) hyper-jump gates. One system per region that has gates from Region A to the neighboring Regions B, C, D, etc., and you jump into that Region's system that has gates to its neighbors. You'll still have to do the 30 jumps to good pirate territory in 0.0 space, but it would make the first 40 go by quick and decrease the most (and possibly only ;-) ) depressing part of the time.

Maybe a way round this would be to have massive jump gates positioned around the areas that would jump further.

Region to Region 'Highway Gates' will appear in the future ...

Are you sure, MOOstradamus?

If it will ever happen, it will KILL the whole point of EVE: it will KILL markets, it will KILL atmoshpere of EVE universe being large, it will KILL point to establish corp controlled areas, it will KILL point to organize mineral or hunting trips to far regions, it will KILL... it will KILL absolutely everything what this game has to offer!!!

And it will add ONLY ONE thing: being able to go any system to any other system in just a few minutes... which means we will have another boring MMOG.

If it ever happens, I'm the first to throw this game outta my window. :(

Highway gates will presumably take you from one region point to the other. Not from one system to any other.

Presumably, it'll work the same as current gates, so that region gates will jump you to one region alone, not possibly all of them.

It would make it too easy yes, maybe make less than 10 point where you can jump from empire to empire... But out off these regions you cant jump very far.

You can travel from region to neighbour regions now, so what's the point?! Yes, the point is to shorten the travel times, but there are means for that in game already:
- move your corp office closer to systems in questions; or if you play solo, move your "home base" closer to systems in question;
- divide roles for your corp members: some go for hunting, mining, etc. others do trade runs; or get in contact with other corps that will do trade runs for you;
- recycle common items, nobody needs them anyway;
- want easy life, stay in empire space, where everything is in reach of a few jumps...

The point to have distant systems is to avoid distant systems swarmed with hundreths (or thousands) of players. Only does ones that really want to venture that far, will do so. And, in my opinion, 30 jumps are next to nothing - I'm doing almost 6-10 times more a day (well, maybe not that much, but around 100-200 jumps a day), if I'm not mining or hunting in a particular system.

Region to Region 'Highway Gates' - bad idea IMO. It'll only make the EVE universe smaller.

One of the appealing things of this game is its shear size... making it easier to reach distant systems will degrade the exploration aspect of the game.

I have to agree - although making a lot of jumps can be a pain at times it's all part of the game. You get a sense of adventure by being 50 jumps from your home system. You also get the opportunity to play the pioneer character. If you make the universe smaller it will kill these features

Ditto to everything Pastora said. If they do anything like this then I would seriously consider quiting. The sheer size of Eve is what attracts me to it over every other MMOG.

No whompas, no gate spells, none of the spells from EQ that let groups warp to within a zone or 2 of anywhere..

Also the market is dependant on the size of the game and the time it takes to travel.

Region = Genesis, Domain, Lonetrek, etc.
The most logical candidates would be the Empire controlled regions.

You'll still have to travel between the different systems and constellations.

It would be a nice feature to have.
