When i try to run eve, the intro screen pops up, but then it never displays the login screen...or anything else, for that matter. It looks like the .exe file is runnin when I look in the task manager, but nothing is happening on the screen...any ideas or suggestions??

I have the same problem.

First i Lost boot.ini. I could restore it from my hardisk backup.

Then I uninstalled EVE and i reinstalled EVE classic version.

When i want ot play eve it takes 100% cpu and blocks anything without getting to the login page.

Any solution?

It happened a bit similarly to me...i lost my boot.ini and had to use system restore. Funny thing is, before i rebooted (and killed the boot.ini) I actually got into the game and played for a bit. Once I used system restore, I installed the premium package from scratch and that's when i couldn't get to the login screen anymore.

One other difference, you said yours was using 100% CPU - mine actually uses ZERO's running in the background, and it uses exactly 55,552k of memory - but no CPU, and nothing happens.

I had the same issue but over multiple installs of the game, which led me to believe that it's a cache issue. Can't put my finger on it exactly yet, but deleting the entire folder at **\Documents and Settings\User\[Local Settings]\[Application Data]\CCP got the exe going again. The two folders in brackets above are hidden folders within Windows Explorer.
Make a copy of this folder first for good measure.

ok, more specifically it isn't **\ccp\eve\cache, its the settings folder. Just deleting that should get you booting the exe properly, but you'll have to redo all your settings
Once i got the exe booting again, I replaced the newly created settings files with the old ones i copied. Don't move the entire folder but only replace the files that have just been created. That saved most of my choices except my hotkeys, which must be somewhere else. But, thats a workaround in a nutshell.

Nope, those folders don't even exist anymore...neither in the "documents and settings" folder nor the program files\CCP folder.

I'm still working off a copy of classic, I don't know what the premium install did to the file structure of the game. Good luck mate.

No ideas here, this is the problem I'm having as well. I've tried all of the other fixes to the problem with no success.

Your descriptions match my scenario perfectly: played a little last night, got the boot error, had to reformat at that point. I updated my gfx drivers, etc., and went back to play only to find that when I start the client, I never even make it to the login screen and 100% of my CPU is in use.

To make matters worse, I can't do ANYTHING else after that point. I have to manually shut down my computer. I've also noticed that when the little hourglass shows up, it...I don't know..."twitches." It jumps in a weird way.

This blows. Hard.

Same symptoms but deleting the cache didn't solve the issue for me either. Currently I have no way of running EVE :(

I really wish CCP would wait unit AFTER xMAS to apply these upgrades as this is the one time of year I actually have a reasonable amount of time to play EVE.

Exactly the same problem haveing payed to get my opperating system working again (thanks for that one CCP), just get a black screen. Im p****d off and opening a bottle in the vain hope that everything will be O.K. tomorrow

You guys are lucky, my hal.dll file was deleted when i did the graphics update. Won't get the os cd until later today. I propose eve should reimburse people who were effected for time spent fixing this problem if they rebooted.
