Greetings  I am in the process of re-inventing my main....this time with serious consideration to the RP implications of my choices. In particular,the choosing of a name. The intent of this thread is not to endlessly speculate over the Earth/Eve timeline....as this has been extensivly covered in previous threads.(With little consensus I have observed  ) The intent is to simply share WHY? you choose the name you did.(Emphasis on RP or if your just plain fussy about these things like I am  I am currently considering rolling a Caldari/Civire character. This could change....and my curiosity is not limited to one race...etc. Looking forward to your imput Thank You Oddveig Jarl |

The only reason why Achura is a popular choice for rerolling characters is because of the low charisma, and higher-than-average other attributes. For example, I've got a 3/9/9/9/9 character myself (3 charisma, 9 everyhting else). On the RP side of naming: If you do plan to go to the asian bloodlines for names, why not pick around Japanese/Chinese/Korean references. I picked mine after I ran my real name and results from such through a " Japanese Name Generator" multiple times till I got something unique for a last name (which was the problem why I ran the results again through it multiple times).  When I showed said name generator to my GF, she jumped on it and played around with it. First result with her name, she liked, she kept.  |

 Reminds me of Mankind when I called my characters "your father", "your mother", "your sister" etc. And of course the all annoying "Loading..." Made for great kill-mails to psych people out. "You were attacked by your father". Participants "Your sister, Your mother, Your brother". |

when i subscribed i thought this was a role playing game and with gallente being of french origin i wanted some thing that sounded like a cheese eating surrender monkey.
little did i know that role playing in mmorpg's is rare :D
so today i fly minmatar ships and am glad that for some reason many people have problems pronouncing the name and i tend to get called less. |

I was flicking through Schott's Original Miscellany when I came across a page with famous horses on it, and Haizum being the name of the angel Gabriel's horse, thought why not! Obscure enough that no-one else is likely to have it (I was called "Caesar" in the first online game I played, and it seems this name is in common usage), and also has a nice snappiness to it. Unfortunately some people (funnily enough, it's usually Americans) call me "Hazium" like an element or something. Annoys the hell out of me. High-zumm. Not Has-e-umm. Damn them to Hades... As for the race/bloodline, Gallente appeared to stand for everything I or my online persona stood for at the time, but then when it was too late I learnt they were French descendants and it ruined my choice. :( Note: All country-specific comments in this post are in jest! |

Named 'me' after a British war hero I met, just before the "power of two" led me to get another account. My original (mainly PvP character) has a name beginning with 'A' which goes down real well with my gang mates when I fight and ensures I pack as much tank as I can muster for the journey. Only chose Caldari as my race cos they looked the most like my own ethnicity. It has nothing to do with anything else - I fly mainly gallente now, who I deliberatly chose not to pick 'cause they were French in Origin. (I'm an English Island monkey, I'm allowed to say these things - no offence meant)   |

Well I chose Minmatar as my race, due to some Scottish and New Zealand blood in my RL makeup, and the whole tribal thing appealed to me. I chose Brutor as bloodline because I prefered the idea of a muscular dude for an avatar as opposed to a tall thin Sebiestor (I play EVE to escape RL, I get to be a tall thin guy there, so I thought I'd try something else in game).
As for the name, I have to admit that I showed a huge lack of originality, and plagiarized Akkarin from Trudi Canavan's Black Magician Trilogy of books, for a previous online game. I'm not the sort to have the same name across all games, but I do try to work Akkarin into the name because he is one of my favorite characters.
Of course, someone else had the same (or similar) idea, and Akkarin on it's own was taken, so I had to come up with a surname. After having read the description of the Minmatar race, and the mention of strapping as many guns as possible onto your ship, I was reminded of a character called Pagan from David Gemmel's King Beyond the Gate. When the character is introduced in the book, he is a muscular black guy weighed down with a myriad of weapons. I felt he was tailor made for a Brutor character (sort of a fantasy version) so I took that as surname.
Not the most original of thought processes I admit, but it suits my character.

well, i chose amarr due to being in an rp corp, [1pg] and created this character, it worked out well, now that im out doing my own thing w/my rl friends corp, the name still works. |

Aeran was chosen because it sounds a lot like my name in RL, so I can identify it easier over TS/Vent etc. And Hermas was because I didn't want to have just one name, so I added a letter to my last name and scrambled them up a little.
So, yeah, as far as RP goes, pick something, make up a good story to go behind it. :shrug: |

I'm a space exploration obsessive. Mangala is a Jyotish/Hindu (possibly) name for Mars.
Solaris is a generic term for our star - in no way did I take it from the dire Clooney remake of the same name :D |
