I just remembered that there is a China server. Hows it been doing recently? Anyone got any stories from it? Does that guy from the China server still post here somewhere?

well, there we have it: PCU on serenity has been dropping since last year september from 8k PCU to 3K PCU.
i.e. 50% of chinese capsuleers have quit.
i.e. its losing money and is a waste of time.
i.e. cut losses and fix the issues with the tranquility server.

there are alliances in tranquility that are bigger than the entire PCU on serenity. tranq is 10x bigger than serenity: there is no one online there. So it's just a waste of money. CCP maintains a China office just for serenity, this costs a hell of a lot of money which would be better spent on the tranq server. The PCU rate has been dropping consistently for the past 12 months: there wasnt one month where EVE was growing in China, ergo it is dying. Business 101: if something sucks and is costing you money, get out of it as fast as possible. |

POS's being there from the beginning of the game has had a very poor effect on the game. Not having Dreads or Carriers to blow up said POS's until a year later had the same effect. People knowing how the tech II lottery worked, and therefore training up tons of alts to get all the BPO's has been detrimental to the game. Having one alliance (run by one rich individual) taking over all 0.0 space by just POS spamming everything, then paying people rl cash to fight for him, has completely destroyed anything that was left. Only thing that can save it, is to completely restart the game. And introduce stuff at the same rate that stuff got on to TQ, tech II ships, POS's and so on and so forth. Unfortunately, I think it's already too late. |

I assume Tranquility players cannot cross over into Serenity whenever, to reduce lag issues then?

furthermore the chinese communist party views gaming much like a dangerous drug: they are currently proposing a popup every half hour from the police that says something in the line of: you no play play more no more! you make rice for PLA now! you go go back to village and make rice, not isk!!! you bad man!
edit: not in eve, but just when online: you get some state sanctioned I.E. popup every half hour..... |

Basically you have to learn that CCP is not directly running the game, but has licensed it to a company there. They have put time indeed to develop the server there, but as stated back then this outsourcing (of sorts) helped to resolve some issues in TQ (gave the devs some ideas). |

lol, cumon guys,
i really doubt ccp would still run it if they were loosing so much money on it with no future plans.
or its just maybe if they close Serenity they will completely destroy their name on the chinese market |

the potential for a Chinese eve server is huge, all it would take is some advertising and bang im sure the game would grow hugely over their specially with the new graphics engine, which means more money to spend! on a 100million dollar mainframe to run the game without lag :D! (for TQ of cause the chinese servers can stick with out old hardware >.>) |

This guy hit the nail on the head here. if people here think newbs have a hard time competing against established forces... it would be impossible over there. (lets face it, POS spam and knowleage of mechanics gave those who played here a HUGE advantage.) last I checked 0.0 is dominated by 2 alliances duking it out... but that was awhile ago. |
