It still can't see the reason why people bother with Destroyers (or do they?), when it seems to me that a Cruiser can do just as good a job at taking out frigates. Expecially since it can handle any damage taken from a Frigate, and they can kill Frigates faster than Destroyers can (or can they?)

Can someone please enlighten me?

distroyers rule!
espechaly at taking out frigs!

and faster then the average cruser can do it!
a thrasher with 7 arty t2s and giro 2s can get a mean damage output!
and a lovely range!
all for a low low price

and with a locking speed that rivels most intersepters you never miss a pod kill :)

Yeah, but Artillery cannons have horrible rate of fire. I'll have to get some of that stuff you say you have on yours.

Plus I wouldn't say 7 tech II turrets is a low price, they're usually around 500,000-1,500,000 ISK each. You could buy a Caracal fitted with heavy launchers and stuff for less.

Is Intys Interdictors or Interceptors?

Inties are Interceptors.
Dictors are Interdictors.

And no, people don't fly Destroyers after their first week or two in game. If you see one in PVP, its likely because the pilot's on a comedy pvp kick.

Destroyer could use some love, they are glass cannons. However, they are not useless. There are few ships better suited to killings frig as part of a gate camp or a fleet battle. Fly them like fleet BS, but targeting frigates, and you should do fine.

a. Fully trained a destroyer has the best tracking in the game.
b. A properly fitted destroyer can deliver small gun firepower (40m signature resolution) and tracking at ranges exceeding 50km.
c. Can lock about twice as fast as a cruiser.
d. With their range and locking speed they can in destroy frigates (T1 or T2) and then jump out before anyone (except other destroyers and sniper cruisers) can retaliate. Harass a fleet or gatecamp for example, perhaps even neutralize it (a gang without tacklers is extremely vulnerable).

Do you need more reasons?

Don't doubt this - a well setup thrasher or corm can instapop just about any inty.

a corp mate was flying an arty thrasher one time, and locked three targets with hot guns and all three popped in one volley.

Destros are completely underated. With the right skills, these are great for solo against frigs and ints.

4 Tracs, 4 Salvs, AB and a bit of Cap recharge stuff ... nothing loots as quick as a destroyer.

Anti-frigate ganking. The destroyer can do this better than a cruiser I think.

Despite their position in the ship hierarchy Destroyers are not low skill point ships.

It takes near perfect fittings skills and t2 mods to make a destroyer do its job properly.

However, once you can fit them they are hilariosly fun to fly.

Thrasher
7x280II (Faction EMP S)
3xSensor Booster II
2xGyro II

Sit in the middle of a gate and 1 volley any frig/pod/shuttle/ceptor that comes through the gate.

Actually, they're about equal in effectiveness. A 'Geddon doesn't have the base speed of a destroyer, but on the flip side it can permarun an AB or burst-run an MWD without running out of cap, as well as fitting more cargo expanders and/or nanos and stabs. Given that most people would fit a salvage destroyer with Salvage Tackle I Rigs (-10% velocity) even the speed difference isn't that great. The 'Geddon wins by far on potential cargo space.

Ultimately the destroyer's going to win the comparison based on sheer economics, but it's been a fun little experiment, and since I had a 'Geddon lying around I thought I'd try it. I'd never fit salvage rigs on it, though.

They are anti frig, their weapons can track intys possibly at full speed and in the thrashers case, can almost one shot the intys...Them fighting dictors is really a toss up.

I'm throwing my 2 cents in on this one too: some of the most fun PvP I've ever had has been with destroyers. There are few things that compare to warping on a gatecamp at 50km, instapopping all three of their lockdown intys, and making a mad dash back outta there while the gcamp just sits there going 'well.....damn'...

There's a reason they call the Catalyst "The ship that never misses"

I get 88km optimals on my Cormorant. 150mm railgun II's, spike ammo, and normally carry ammo to cover the other ranges. Fries an interceptor with ease.

No guns in the game track as well as guns on a destroyer.

Nothing in the game can snipe as far with small guns as a Cormorant can (80-90 km), and only a few can do it as far as the other destroyers can do (50-55 km).

Nothing in the game can get the alpha strike with small guns that a Thrasher can get, and the other destroyers aren't all that bad in that department either.

Very few small ships (and none of them tech 1) can get anywhere near the dps that a blaster catalyst can get (above 300 with good skills and equipment on a normal fit, nearly 400 if it fits neutron blasters but then it can't possibly fit an mwd, which it needs).

It's a good, useful ship class with a bad reputation.

You can be flying a destroyer ~10minutes after finishing frigate III. Can't do that with a cruiser :P

Also new players can generally afford a destroyer +skill +basic fittings as soon as they can train it whereas a cruiser will take a few more days.

Whats the problem with destroyers? They don't have a proper combat based t2 version, the interdictors change them from sniper to close range, from slow and hard hitting to speed tanks. So what we realy need is medium assault destroyers :) Thats the problem, I want a t2 version thats for sniping.

What would be cool to have is another t1 dessy but have it use the other races systems (drones for gallente, missiles for caldari, dunno bout amarr and minny) and then have the t2 version as a solid point defense ship... maybe even able to fit a siege module (or is that going to far)?
