Ok, well I am still a newb to the game and I apologize if this has been discussed before.

But, I thought it would be cool and would make a whole lot of sense if we could buy stronger warp cores - ones that would decrease the traveling time while in warp space significantly. I mean, you see in all the TV shows and movies about space ships going to, for example, "Warp 2, warp 3, etc" so why not implement this in the game as well? It would certainly make those destinations with an insane amount of jumps much more bearable and it would be absolutely vital for merchants.

Of course, these advanced warp cores would have to be priced fairly so that the newb player would not be able to afford one but it wouldn't be so unreasonable for a moderate to veteran player to purchase. And, obviously, the more advanced the core, the more expensive it would be. These stronger warp cores may also be able to throw you in to warp space much more quickly (say to avoid ambushes) and bring you much closer to the gates.

I really hope this isn't already in the game because then I have just made a fool of myself, and I also would not know how this would affect PvP but all in all an interesting idea if I do say so myself.

What do you all think?

warp speed is determined by the ship size, iirc... you can't choose how fast you go unlike "standard thrusters".

lol star trek reference. Razz

There are modules, skills, and implants that do everything you've suggested. And you can't warp any closer to a gate than 'warp to zero'.

There's a variety of skills under the navigation tab that will make you travel faster. :)

For simple speed, there's also a variety of modules you can fit on your ship - inertia stabilizers, overdrive injectors, nanofibers, and more!

Browse some of those names in the market, and check out the market listing on the navigation skills to see if there's anything in there that catches your fancy.

"... and bring you much closer to the gates."

Warp to zero not close enough for you? Don't be lazy and rely on the autopilot and you already get as close as you could ever want.

As for the rest, I don't see much need. Different ships already travel at different warp speeds. So yeah, you can't make a super fast freighter, but if you need to move something small in a hurry, do it in a small fast ship.

wrong on so many levels,Rolling Eyes
ships warp at different speeds - 0.7AU/s to 14.3AU/s [freighter - co-ops]
getting into warp faster can be done by various mods | rigs and skills

Cost really makes no difference. buy the BPo and build - maybe a T2 version? -but that is not how eve works really

only 1 show I know talks about warp levels Wink

exiting close to the gate - no don't start on that with A/P

there was a time before the A/P existed you know.

Autopilot.

There are certain Rigs (think of them as permanent modules) that are supposed to affect warp speed but at the moment they're broken, sadly. I think, anyway...

Oh ok.

But wow, there used to be a time without Autopilot??

Scary, eh? That was before my time, thankfully.

Hehe, when you get into 0.0, you'll find that autopilot equals suicide there, and you'll find yourself making 60 jump trips manually.

it'd sure as hell be nice if you could. ever try to make a proper safespot or a midway probe point in a covops?

These cost a wee bit much for their advantage which is possibly never used...
However, I'm sure a cov ops with one of those + a probe/scanning rig would be an awesome lil scout to have.

I just can't think of another typical use for a ship to ever fit one for its drawback, lose armor for higher arp speed, it's kind of pointless because warp speed is already useful to begin with, everyone in the gang would need them fitted, and less armor + loss of a rig slot for other stuff.

So a blockade or cov ops seem to be the only ones.
