I bought a Scorpion because I was bored with my Drake and did not have the ISK for a new Raven. Impulse buy cause it was 60 mil. It was just before I got tech 2 cruise launchers so its DPS was extra pathetic and therefore I was going to use it to blow up in PvP and I fitted it with 3 tech one dampers.

Never really got to use it because with testing I wasn't so sure tech one dampers did the job. Yes I know I should use ECM modules, but I'm just dabbling in ECM and not sure I want to start training for tech 2 ECM or dampers.

The nice thing is the 8 mids the Scorp has.

So I was wondering. Should I train ECM or Dampers or not bother and fit the Scorp as a cap killer?

With the Nos change and 8 mids I can fit a pretty tough shield tank and as many Nos plus one neut in the highs as PG allow. 8 Mids could be X-Large SB, large electrochem injector, MWD, Scram, SB, 3X hardners.

Or XLSB,injector,SB,3X damps (tech one),inv field, photon scat?

Or continue ratting with it since I have tech 2 cruises and can actually break tanks and train up ECM? (or Damps, would suck if they nerf damps then right?)

ECM is a bit cap intensive from my tests. Do people actually still fly ECM Scorps?

Thanks for reading this Noobish post.Cool

Yes, people actually do fit ECM on their scorps.
With my skills, a single multi-spec is around 4 cap a sec. A racial one is less, and named, even less so. I think if you tried, You would find that you can effectively tank more dps (read, infinite) from a single ship with less can then an actual tank would use. Just jamm him - with the boni, and skills... Go for ECM.

Your scorpion's tanking bonuses are to its ECM tank. Just jam the crap out of him. 6 ECM and some distortion amps and no one ship will ever touch you.

Thanks.

Does range matter?? What is your optimal range to fight from?

And do you use racials?

And are Damps just the flavor of the month?Confused

Fitting more than 1 damp on a scorp is, imho, quite silly. Damps are FOTM, and quite honestly, not really as amazing as people make them out to be.

ECM is much more powerful in my experience.

you wont regret training ecm at all

in most of the gangs i join im asked to bring that over my raven ... any one can spam dps it takes a good ship to make sure your gang dosent need much of a tank

Damps are very effective in conjunction with ECM, because of the increase to the relocking time. But I can never decide what the optimal balance between damps and ECM on an ECM boat should be... Confused

Yeah, that's a problem.
You never know how much ECM you need to JAM...and if it doesn't JAM, its usesless.
On a scorp I'd fit 1-2 dams though.

Thank the little space creatures, I asked a decent question.

So I'm hearing train till you can use ECM II, then use multi spectrals.

So about three multi spec ECM and one damp.

You all agree with XLSB II, large injector, Invul field II, Photon scattering II to fill the rest?

The reason I talk about combat range is IF its greater than 30 KM then I'll fit 4 cruise luanchers

If its like 20 KM then nos and nuets and switch out the Photon for a MWD.

Lows for fitting and BCU poss DCU.

Scorp, tho missing a left wing, is prettier than the Raven.

Then the next question is, since the Raven is rat overkill and PvP underkill, buy a Rokh next?

AnKahn-Fitting at least one Sensor Booster is also a good idea. If you can lock your targets faster than they can lock you most of the time decides the outcome of a battle. Try to fit at least one on your Scorp.

i fit a pure tank as i know i'm primary in fleets with scorp. Holds off small fleets so my fleet can get into the opposition...all the win :)

It has been a while since I last actually used one for something other than spinning around in station but when I used them I found that 'hp buffer' scorp tends to be a bit more survivable in mid sized gangs than one with tank. Meaining 3x 1600 mm plates and medium armor repper for fixing up after fight.

As far as ECM vs Damps go. It's something like 2x sesnor booster 4x racial ECM 1x Dampener II 1x Heavy Cap injector II. Sometimes when you you are not in danger of exsessive dampening yourself you can drop one of sensor boosters and fit second damp yourself. Cap injector is to counter NOS and fuel smartbombs in hi slots ;)

Note however that this might not be entirely up to date. It would be rather good to have signal distorion amp or 2 in low's also but they dont do you any good if you get called primary (and you will in scorpion) and will be popped in one volley.
