garbage name, no standings to anything except small negative to local pirate npcs, takes ages to respond to anything if they ever respond at all, hangs out in same system as a lot of other miners with garbage names who all log in and out at the same time, doesn't react to ore theft like a real player would.

some macros recently tend to shoot their own cans when you approach them

6 macro miners in 6 belts, in 1 system.

Now, pan out to me, in an ity 2 with 2x exp cargo and one AB. 6km3 cargo, and 6 bookmarks.

warp, loot, warp, loot, warp, loot, warp, loot, warp, loot, warp, loot, return to base. rinse and repeat.

It was TEH AWESWOMZ

It took them about 3.5 hours to respond, must have been sweatshop siesta right about then (or they thought my ity was their hauler or something). I was spamming local all the time: "C'mon people, macro miners in belt 1 to 6, bourynes system, it's a F**king FREE FOR ALL, woot!"

After the 3.5 hours, lo and behold, It was a response in Russian text charachters, after that, in English: YOU STOPPING THAT NOW!!!!

Twisted Evil

What I don't get though is everyone thinks macro miner sweatshop boys are in navitas with t2 miners. All I see is ORE ships named 'jhsjsjsk' with an ity 5 doing hauling for them.

Basically I only steal ore from macro'ers, and only when I'm consolidating my assets (i.e. travelling a lot):

Every system I enter I check local, to see what chars are in, if I see jshskhsjsj type people, I just warp to nearest place that sells an ity (i.e. Teh WHOL Wurld) and start jacking em.

I think most MMers name their chars with a j or k first, since it's halfway the alfabet, so also halfway any local channel :-) Shocked

Anyhow, loot what you can from them people: an hours work is at least 5 mil, and I have yet to loose my first ity to MMers :-)

My friend mines, I sometimes give loot for him to repro he gives me a ship back, he wont speak unless he has to.

Too many times macro killer's try to goad or bully a player to fight, any possible action bumping, locking and repeated gang invites all in the name of macro removal.

If you petition, it seems like nothing gets done, possible because they are like my friend, sometimes too worried a wrong word will result in loss of ship. I dont know why they can continue to mine when you petition, but what they say must be enough to satisfy a GM.

Many examples have been show but they still seem to be in game, just because someone does not answer or respond when you bump them does not mean they must be a macro, better to move on than fight as mining ships are not much use for fighting.
But when you see a gang of 4-5 barges all mining all shield boosting in perfect time it does look very much like macros, dammed if know why petitions dont work in those cases

I use a ity 5 with 2 WCS 3 cargo expanders. sometimes they try to shoot back :) but it happens very rarely and only if you've been stealing from them for a while

8am: online and mining.
12pm: online and mining.
4pm: online and mining.
10pm: online and mining.
1am: online and mining...

7 - days - a - week.

No player of this game would do this. Add them to your addressbook - organise into folders for teams you find. Keep notes on where you find them if you like.

I'm currently pursuing one particular team who just don't seem to 'get it'. They jet can mine 23/7. I turn up and steal in an Iteron. I make enough to cover a new Iteron in about two runs. They get angry and move a couple of jumps - and do exactly the same thing. I follow...

I wonder why they don't make a corp. Rolling Eyes

When typing with 10 fingers, you put your fingers on the middle text row of your keyboard, on asdf and jkl;. Semicolons aren't allowed in names, but for the rest rattling randomly on the middle row is the quickest way to make a disposable name. That's the only reason there are so many j's, a's and s's in macroer's names :)

As for why they don't make a corp, you can war dec a corp. That would make them in fact easier to be disposed of.....

Was being rhetorical. Yeah, we are currently at war with a large group that have decided to form corps and an alliance. Corporation has benefits which could increase the efficiency with which these parasites generate ISK. That is a 'Bad Thing(tm)'. The point needs to be made that banding together into an alliance will just them war-decced and podded repeatedly.

The best way is to suicide gank them and have a buddy haul off the T2 equipment that drops. If they continue flying back and forth to the station in a pod, well that's a bit of a giveaway. Watched a guy do that (mining in a pod) for four hours a couple nights back.

quite recently i think i noticed someone doing that in a retriever. He had allot of ore in a jetcan (...), so i did the "switcharoo manouver".
No reaction.

So i kept on bumping him away from the roid until his strip miners deactivated.

Still no reaction.

So i popped "my" ore can with all the ore in it (Rifters aren't that great to haul with anyway..).

Still no reaction.

it wasn't until about 20 minutes later when my aggression timer had expired that he started moving and warped away.

One way to identify a macro miner:

There's an unlooted Domination spawn 1km from their barge, and it's been there for ten minutes.

Thanks for the 45mil ISK off that pirate implant, macros!

Check their Bios, wait.. they didn't have one? And they've been in a starter corp for 9 months - 1 year? Hmm, well that's odd isn't it. Rolling Eyes

I had fun with one while waiting for scans to finish in my Helios recently.

Warp to belt, see macro miner with can. Approach can cloaked. Cloak drops when I get within 2km. Jettison a probe. Swap his ore into my can. Remove my probe. Destroy the can. Move away to 2km and cloak.

Macro jets new can, repeat.

We would dec them Twisted Evil

/edit
...and I just noticed this has already been covered - sorry

One of the funniest things I ever had with a macro was chain stealing from them for about an hour in my battle badger (I'd been hitting them for days and had given up any hope of they stealing back so I could pop them) suddenly the itty pilot either snapped or got sloppy and took from my can

So I have him scrammed and my battlebadger is faster than his itty as he tries to get out of scram range all the while my small blaster with antimatter is wailing on him - the problem was that he obviously had a gisti or similar booster fitted and I just couldnt break his tank. Finally he starts talking in very broken english in local (and in caps) and I manage to extract a 10mil bounty from him (yeah I know I'm cheap but I had no corp mates online to assist) just as I run out of ammo.

But heres the punchline - he only paid 7mil to begin with, I got tired of waiting and just docked and 5 mins later the remaining 3mil turns up (from a different gibberish named character who wasnt even in local)

If your friend has a name like "hgfdsywu" and constantly hangs out in high-sec mining 24/7 w/out responding to convo attempts, bumping or whatnot, without any standings to whoever and so on, then he is a macro. Or a sweatshop worker Laughing

If I'm in a frig (and I mostly am these days), I just put the stuff in my can and blast it to bits ;P

Get 6-7 friends in cheap frigates, equiped with cheap weaps/mods. If you find any macroer in belts, start suicide mission. Barges are too fargile to manage to warp out or last long enough till concord takes you out. All you have to loose is the cheap frig. What they loose is about 30m.

one way to identify a macro i have not seen mentioned , open their can , if the ore is all in single stacks its usually a macro as the macro does not seem able to stack ore as a real miner would .

Well, it's simple. They could get war dec'ed if they did. True, they would look more legitimate, but they would also be easier to target. The Really Awesome Players (TRAPS) war dec'ed a macro mining corp a long time ago and it failed for the macro miner's horribly.

I don't think that bunch will make that mistake again.

CCP could easily implement ways to allow the 'live' player base to combat the 'macro' or barely-alive 'farmer' scourge:

No Mining barges in Nuub Schools. Lvl 1 & 2 agents only.
50% reduction in mining laser yeild in NPC corps. Lvl 2 & 3 agents only.
No freighters in NPC corps (though can be trained).
War declaration carryover (jump corp, you're still decced for the duration of that war cycle, regardless of whichever corp you then join. Likewise with alliance jumping). No upscale of war status to new corp or alliance.

Voila... macro miners will have to bite the 50% dropoff or form corps and alliance/corp jumpers will suddenly find that their new corp/alliance cannot support them in a fight until the one under war declaration is actually fired upon (in the presence of their new corp/alliance members, who can then engage to 'defend' their new member).

This would just destroy the game for people who want to play solo. I was soloing in the first months I've played eve and the fact that you can't really do anythig with a decent efficiency by yourself almost made me quit eve alltogether.
I did join a corp later on but that's only because the game mechanics pretty much forced me to. Your proposed changes would only make it a LOT worse

A better way in my opinion to remove the imballance that macrominers bring is to introduce a mining autopilot. In other words everyone can macromine, absolutely everyone. What would this do?
1. It would allow the average user to rake up some ore without the tedious and mind-numbingly boring mining activity we have today.

2. It would greatly decrease the profit macrominers make, since almost everyone will be able to mine their own ore.

3. Empire space is already stripped bare by the macros, but at least this way the ore will be "distributed" among legitimate players as well.

4. This would reduce the cost of ships somewhat, which means profit for manufacturers (as long as they're smart enough not to sell under the platinum insurance value).

5. Since there will be an infusion of low-end minerals, manufacturing volumes will go up. That means demand for high-end minerals will also go up. => more profit for lowsec and 0.0 miners

Macro != unattended

Many farmers/etc run dozens of computers with macros; if someone convos them, they walk over and respond.

Doesn't mean they're not a macro miner.

I in system there is some sweatshop workers i warn them in local i take a can destroy the ore often, they will not tuch a can you have stolen the ore in from them
i don't need any proof i know they are sweatshop if you ruin ther op they can't sell ore
and earn any isk or money if you excample camp out a system that is real bad of farmers/marcos you can ruib the day. But is harder to take out those who runing missons
there are many misson isk farmers but you can't stop them if they are in a system 0.5+
