afs are funmobiles and very deadly in small packs
To kill any decent cruiser pilot u will need at least 3, and even with that numbers at least 2 of you will die.

bitter much ?

no thanks, just i have done it already :P

I find it amusing that when comparing prices no-one takes any of them apart from the ishkur into consideration.

Actually if your attacking a crusier, the number of high damage and wrecking shots you get levels out the DPS (weapon sig radius compared to the targets radius).

Sorry, but this is complete and utter bull****. Do research how hit quality is calculated.

Well, I found only one use for the Enyo that I bought recently. To do the scout mission against Guristas. Fit a Kinetic/thermal tank, damage control, afterburner and a small repper.

Got me through that mission without a problem as I had to run for the acceleration gate.

It will not be used for anything else because a Thorax is simply better.

I figured I'd train up assault frigs for the hell of it, since I had frig 5 anyway. So I train it up a few levels, then go buy a Hawk and go online looking for builds for the thing.

Guess I should have looked before buying it lol.

I haven't done PVP in a bit, so this may have changed, but AF / Intie / Cruiser packs are a lot of fun and quite effective.

First off, an AF can tank gate guns in lowsec for a time if needed and tanked right, so they are great at tackling gate gankers or other non-war targets.

Secondly, they are awesome tacklers in small gangs where you can't replace popped frigates in a moment's notice (raids and roaming patrols.) Using them in conjunction with a few heavy-hitters can net some great results.

They are awesome at taking out support or drones in small gang battles, too.

However, once you hit fleet battles they are pretty pointless.

If they need love, I can't think of what they could use that wouldn't run the risk of turning them into the next FOTM.

How about giving them a role bonus thingy:

10% reduction on webifier effects per level of assault frigate.

and if the Nos change was implimented it would probably help these poor guys out alot, as i hear web + nos = bye bye AF.

my wolf has 3000 armor hp
a scarm and a MWD (which I only use to get to the target

I personally love AF's and flew a Jag for quite a long time.

Level 3 missions: No problem (except for the cargo hold being to small to hold loot :) ).

PVP: Great against anything up to cruisers (drone users need to be avoided though). AF/Inty gangs are great for moving quickly through low sec and even for solo pvp they can still hold their own.

I have taken out cruisers with my Jag and even gone 2v1 against a Rupture and Thrasher and still won.

In bigger op's they make a very useful tackler.

Cruisers like the stabber can do the same job but medium T2 modules cost a ton at the moment.

Mainly AF's are just "fun" :)

QFT...again.

AF's are a more tactical option. They are fine ships with excellent resists if you have the skills. Comparing a 9m AF with a 90M BS? And saying the AF is worthless because it can't win solo? Might want to rethink your "worthwhile" test hah

uhmm.. pointless thread imo, i don't get why ppl expect each and every ship they have trained for to be omgbbqpwnage against everything, AFs are simply glorified frigates with nice resists, and that's about it. I think their workload is comprised mainly of chewing up t1 and t2 frigs and standing toe to toe with cruisers while their small sig radius, good agility and greater-than-average resists makes them able to withstand some punishment from bcs and bses-enough to turn around and warp out.

in conclusion, are AFs worth it?
Yes, they are fun to fly, pack respectable punch, and have the option of turning tail and fleeing if the going gets tough.

Will they stand toe-to-toe with everything that floats?
(/clarkson) NO, but they weren't meant to in the first place.

take one out and have some fun popping inties and ratting cruisers while training for HACs. That will do it

False...

AF are for PvE and thats all.

When they get a 4th bonus and mass similar to T1 frigates, they will be useful ships.

I dunno I use my as a heavy tackler and anti-frig in pvp I've solo'd two claws with my jag.

I really love my jag/s. I used to use a claw and I'd lose them a lot faster. It of course helps that I get them for cost.

Also pinned down a vaga w/ it who didnt have webs on. if he webs I'd have been done but w/out em he couldnt hit me as he was setup w/ arty's couldnt get range w/ my web and scram on him.

That said I haven't played for about 3 months as I've been finishing school so things may have changed in that time.

They're pretty good at knocking out enemy drones as well as frigates and make pretty tough tacklers.

Either of those pilots should have wtfbbq'd you.

I have taken down a myrmidon in my Jag, but he was a newb and didn't have a clue what was going on. I imagine the same about the ruppie and thrasher pilots you speak of.

AF are just isk sinks if you ask me. I agree with the other posters, you can fit a cruiser better/cheaper.

the only reason to train AF is to get to HACs in my opinion.

I have been hanging around in Ammamake the last few months flexing my solo pvp skills. When i scan a ship in local that i think i can fight, i dock and choose the appropriate ship to engage with.

If it's a wolf i get a wolf if it's a jag i use a jag. The only 'role' these ships have for me are to put a huge smile on my face and a rush of adrenaline through my blood. It's flippin awesome that feeling...the pounding in the chest and the sweaty mouse hand. That's what the ships do for me. Why do they need a role? Who cares how much they cost...you can't put a price on a good time. Wink

I fly my ships and fight other people's ships in this wonderfull game CCP has made for us because it's a helluva lot of fun.

It's nice for the ships to have roles because it adds to the realism and diff playstyles. But it doesn't really matter that much in end as long as you can fly them and have a bloody good time doing it. Very Happy

It's a game people.

Edit: and assault frigates are just damm cool too!

I cried a little bit at reading this. =(*
Truth hurts I guess.

I love my lil retri and slurmobile but there are definitely better af's you could use for any pvp role you might consider with the amarr af's. =/

As for JoeT's statement, man I'd wager you could do the same in a punisher with your skillset. =)

Wade trough a frigate gang in an ishkur, then tell me AFs suck.

Granted, nothing a cruiser couldn't have done, but ishkur has style.

I love to fly the Ishkur to just roam around in, often solo.

Yes I could T2 a Thorax for less money and be more effective, but the Ishkur as many have said is a fun little ship to fly.

Having said that I spend far more time in my Taranis.

Well I have only used the Harpy but to be honest I like it. Yeah it is expensive (got 3 of them with different fits for different roles) but for archeology and Hacking sites they are perfect. My Harpy goes fast enough to outrun most damage and what it cannot outrun it can tank also the Guns almost never miss and do decent damage.

However that is a PvE situation. For PvP it is far more cost effective to get a Tech II fitted Crusier and you can do more with a Cruiser. Assault Frigates have their place but to be genuinely useful in PvP they need a 4th bonus and some tweeks.
