This is a question. Since we no longer need it (as much) I forgot how to do it.

1) How do you make a copy of a bookmark? A copy that looks like a note and can be shared like any other item?

2) How yo take that item and copy that bookmark into your bookmarks (on another character)?

Wow. I remember doing this for hundreds of the damn things and upon thinking of it, I can't clearly remember how. I know there was alot of shift-dragging. Maybe some ctrl in there somewhere. Make a few dummy bookmarks, grab a can o' Dew, and sit down in a station and get creative. I kdo remember plenty of click dragging into the People&Places menu, and a lot of waiting.

1) To make a copy: Select the bookmark(s) you wish to copy (maximum of 5 at a time). Hold down the shift key, drag the bookmarks to your hangar/cargo and drop. Hold the shift key until the first BM appears, then release.

2) Uh... huh? I assume you mean put that copy back into your bookmarks... I hardly see why you'd do that, but it's simple: Drag the BM to the subfolder in your people & places you want it to end up and release it, or just to the P&P tab itself if you want it dropped in the root directory.

If you copy a bookmark, you usually plan to give it to somebody else.... that guy then has to be able to put it in his 'places'.... Very Happy

I you're really keen on fighting in a particular system, insta-dock bookmarks would actually still be useful...

It's never happened to me, but I can see warping to within ~3km of a station when you need to dock being a real pain in the ass.

dunno about insta docking, but the still valid and "useful" bm's would be, oh I don't know?

an INSTA DIRECT OUT from undock (*very popular with cap ships, frieghtors, and other haulers.
"SAFE" BM's
conversly "POUNCE" and "SNIPE" points.
and to verying degree's POS's and HOSTILE SAFEs, and HOSTILE SNIPE/POUNCE points.
I'm a big fan of hostile safes and pounce points.YARRRR!!

You haven't yet realize I'm a carebear? I want the bookmarks for a carebearish purpose. I want to make bookmarks of my wreck filled missions, and leave them on corp hangar for my carebearish noobs to salvage. ugh

Just right click on a wreck to bookmark it, then shift+drag it out of your places area in your People &places tab then take that and put it in your corp hanger then to add it to your Bookmarks drag the Book-mark Item from your hanger/corp-hanger into your places tab in your people & places

BTW, Wrecks don't last forever I think an Hour, 2 at the max.

They last 2 hours, give or take 15 minutes (random), just like jet cans.

Copying BM's is good for sharing exploration and safes and stuff though - exploration sites last 48hours from the last time they're visited - unless they're completed, then they only last a few minutes.

I recently sold copied BMs to some explored mining belts with Hemorphite, Jaspet and Kernite in an 0.8 system. :) (I hate mining)

There are a lot of tactical uses for bookmarks. I make a lot of bookmarks 1000 km off of gates and stations so I can warp there and scan before going in. Also insta-warp bookmarks off of stations that you are pre-aligned for when you undock can be useful. Then you have sniping points, and also, of course, safe spots. All very useful.

All of those may need to be shared between several people.

Can someone please explain how this works? Do you somehow select the bookmark BEFORE undocking?

the term is slightly misleading: it just means that you warp instantly (since you're aligned on that undock-vector already) upon warp-command to that bookmark. while you enter space outside of a station, you're invulnerable until you do something OR .. a certain amount of seconds is up.

Undock in a Fast MWD ship.

Turn on MWD, set full speed on hud, DO NOT click in space as it will change your alignment. Blast away from station as far as you need. Make Bookmark label it Undock Insta or whatever.

From then on, whenever you undock as normal, you can 'warp to' using that book, it mark will warp you away from the station without aligning, all you need is to get up to speed to warp.

Then

Well, the nice thing about undocking is that you already are above the speed required for warping. If you can activate that bm fast, you're instawarping away from the station.

This is easier to do with big ships as they take longer to decelerate so you have more time to activate the bm and instawarp out. Smaller ships drop below the minimum speed for warping too fast and have to accelerate again. During that (although short) acceleration time, they can be locked and scrammed.
