Thanks for the suggestions folks, and the quotes.

But:

PVP: For me that means getting back into roleplay/alliances which means getting back into a lot of big corp/alliance drama which was the reason I left those things behind in the first place. To me there's no point to warfare except as a means of gaining/protecting territory.

Piracy/corp theft: Nope, got a reputation to protect and I'm a bastard, but not THAT much of a bastard.

I was in that position but all you need is to get in with the right crowd. Takes a little time and patience.

i feel the same way alot of the time. 4 years and still going here.

I did take a nice long break, about 4 or 5 months, kept my skills training though. That helped me enjoy eve alot more when i returned. I went through all the stages, just at a much faster rate as teh first time. I first felt like a noob again, couple weeks later im back to the uber me, then a few months later the excitement ran out again.

I cant seem to get away for anything. I even log in to just sit there and wach my skills count down. I feel at home when im loged into eve. I would say i am very addicted, man this has got to be worse than crack!

I have also done it all and kinda just wandering through space with no real goals.

Sorry for the slow reply, but I've been disconnected for a few days. Stress relief.

To everyone who begged for money:

No.

To everyone who suggested starting a corp and building it up:

You missed the bit where I've done that already.

To everyone who suggested big-time corp/alliance stuff:

You missed the bit where I've done that already and checked out of it.

To everyone who suggested building an outpost:

Do you have any idea how labor-intensive that is for a mostly-solo player?

To everyone who suggested getting into capital ships:

What makes you think I haven't already done that?

To Hamfast:

Good reply, food for thought. At the moment the thing that keeps me logging in is more habit than anything else I guess. That and greed. Laughing

To Wild Rho:
Remember trying to kill me a few times during the CFS days? Nyah, you missed. :P Er, I mean I did at one point have a third account, built the character up doing PVP stuff and then auctioned it for ISK.

I think a break may be in order. Mebbe to train Minmatar Carrier to 5 or something.

Thanks, folks.

Seriously, if you can't find the joy of logging on and just do it out of habbit, do something else with you time. Watch TV, get a dog, have a baby, build a house, start a business, get married, learn to fly or apply for a job at CCP. Having played for 4 years, i bet you have loads of ideas on improvements Smile

best suggestion i have seen is to join Eve University.

Honestly with your experience teaching might open up the game for you again. Also consider get a T1 frigate and some buddies and go hunt. Its easy to forget how much of a rush you get when you and some friends down battle cruisers and battle ships in frigates.

I hate you. Never won it.

I'm in almost the same boat as you. For me, I generally go out and fight against a larger force or take on a ship that is one class above me which is why I seem to fly battlecruisers and cruisers the most and right now, I can fly all of them, including T2 but I usually stick to T1 for battlecruisers.

Mostly because I didn't catch onto the usefulness of learning skills right off the bat. I did learning to 4 and skipped on the rest. Then I also made the mistake of picking a combat character's stats layout (base intelligence 3 before skills I think) and basically making him into industry/mining/science initially and only moving seriously into skills tailored to his stats much later on. I think I finally did the learning skills at about the one-year mark. And at the time implants were first available I couldn't afford to replace them after getting podded once.

Basically I handicapped myself. But I did a better job on the second acct.

As for the name, sorry dude. Well not really. :P

Ecchus was second choice and my second attempt at making a character. My first one was made on the day of the one and only rollback, when the rollback happened it screwed up the character and I couldn't get the GMs to fix it. Harmakhis still exists, but he's totally inaccessible because he was rolled back to a time when he didn't exist.

I like this attempt better anyway, he's way uglier.

TV sucks, I have a cat, I remodeled two houses in the past four years, I have a (very small) business, I have a son. No getting married, that's for suckers.

I do have ideas, but it seems that many of the ones I have are the opposite of what CCP intends.

Mebbe I should go ahead and post the mining improvements thing I wrote up...

Ecchus,

What keeps me playing EVE are the friends i've made along the way. In EVE, even if you think you've done and accomplished everything, remember that there is always something new to do.

It is possible to enjoy the 00 PvP and corp/alliance environment, with epic battles and adrenaline pumping encounters without the drama. Most decent 00 alliances/corps have leadership structures that handle the drama, so to speak.

Short of trying to recruit you, i'd say hammer out on paper what you really enjoy most in EVE. For me it's PvP, the adrenaline rush of a warpin, seeing primaries and secondaries go down, just never gets old. That rush can and will keep you in the game.

Best of luck in your future Ecchus, and I hope you find something that re-energizes you and gets you excited about this game again.

Its a shame CCP decided to kill off the last bastion of log on - no frills - no "alliance drama" small gang PVP otherwise I could have suggested an alliance for you you would may have loved.

Many dissilusioned Vets passed through its members :)

My adivce would be to buy 6 months of gamecards with isk - and take a break - maybe factional warfare will live up to something if a) it isnt to 'pvp' flag ghay and b) It is implemented in our lifetimes

Ecchus,

I'm nowhere near as experienced as you, or powerful, and I have yet to attempt many of the things you've so enjoyed over the last four years, but I do know of EVE boredom. Sometimes in-between activity, mission running, or mining, or the "grind" as it were can make EVE seem more like work than fun.

So what do I do?

Sc**** together the cash, and the gear I do have, and set up events. I try to make them as quirky as possible, and maybe stick prizes in if I can stretch my wallet to it. I mean, I liked my corp. members, and although it costed me, I think the events were enjoyable for everyone, thus worth every ISK I squeezed out. Often events can be set up very cheaply, depending on the idea, other times it requires some investment. "Everyone grab a clone, take a shuttle, lets see how far we can sprint into BoB space!" Costs nothing at all, and is hilarious. I gave the winner an interceptor for her speedy click-warp fingers, if I remember correctly.

So, with your power, influence, and cash? Well I'd go a little crazy with the stunts I could pull. I'm sure with a little imagination you could think of some yourself. Capital races, CONCORD popping rewards anything you want. Your manufacturing and T2 ownership will essentially pay for the upkeep of your insane schemes.

Yes, there are serious sides of EVE. When at war the shenanigans often stop and activities are streamlined, and relocated so industry is protected and the PvP squads arrange themselves according to the battleplan, but in the end, EVE is a social game. Have fun with the people.

One day I hope to have enough money to do that, but since I'm not playing this month or two I be dirt broke and drifting in space, lacking a corporation or anything else. Curse exams.

As for PvP, "small-gang" PvP is where it's best for me, forget alliances and the sort, get a small very specialist squad and see what you can achieve, even against possibly far superior numbers. This is far more enjoyable in my experience because all your tactics, setups and little tweaks are effectively noticeable. Blob warfare gives you a number tag and tells you to get in line.

If none of this works, perhaps it's time to try something new elsewhere, and check EVE out again in a little while?

``Ragnarohk

(And hey, if you ever want event ideas, I'll do my best to help out.)

EDIT: Argh, my alt (acushla) somehow slipped into this forum post! If anyone needs to contact me, contact "Ragnarohk" instead, Acushla gets checked very rarely.

Actually, I don't believe it's as bad as it once was since they have made the changes to freighters. An egg can now be filled using them so it's now 3-4 freighter loads of stuff rather than a few hundred hauler loads.

Once all the stuff is collected and stored in corp hangars at POS in a system (which is also easier since freighters can now interact with corp hangars in POS) the deployment and filling of the egg could be done in an hour or 2.

Keep in mind though that if you build it as a solo/small alliance someone will take it from you Rolling Eyes

I'm playing from beta3 and still here (34 million skill points, cuz my other 2 alts want also time to learn, bugger!)
Born on the sunny day of 2003/09/03 ugh

Think the key is to not over play this game and keep the online hours low. I have tons of things I have never done (like living in 0.0 space) or going to Caldari space, lol.

I'm making my money slowly from mining in empire, and mostly talk too much docked in stations.
EVE is fun, big and every system has different people in it. It will take some time till I reached the end and start boring Very Happy

Good luck to you, Ecchus, hope you find the next goal in EVE to stay with us Wink

Wow, 4 years ... my char is about 1/2 that old and I had a 6 month break already ...

Anyway, with yout experience, you could take the time to com up with some ideas to improve EVE. You've seen much and tried even more in the game I guess. Get a pencil and paper and come up with ideas to balance the game ... introduce new content etc.

Take a look at the (lack) of some information available in EvE, and pick some immense project that the average person would consider impossible, merely because the average player last for 6 months. Then do it.

Eg. there is no database of every moon mineral.
Locations agents are underutilised
There is only one lottery
Noob players are once again largely restricted from entering 0.0
The goon nemesis needs a counter
There is no ultimate drug (booster) cartel, location, shop
The Minmatar (or Amarr) are yet to claim (reclaim) Providence.

Just some ideas.

Your doing really well. I've been on since July 2003 (off in 2004) and have barely mastered the game. There is so much I haven't done yet, like that solo kill i'm still waiting for and that billion i've never reached.

However I'd suggest power, money and influence. If you've done all the small things, try out the super rich game. Make yourself super rich and start getting political influence and controling the game.
How about an alliance?
