We aren't as dangerous as you seem to think.

Most of us ultimately serve as lackeys and attack dogs to the agents of various megacorporations and government agencies. After all, how many times have you been called upon to "rescue" some mid-level functionary's daughter from a boyfriend of whom her parents disapprove? Or to assassinate a scientist impudent enough to seek employment elsewhere, or to report his superior's misdeeds to DED? Even those of us who try to cut away from this sort of thing find ourselves dependent on the megacorps for DRM-protected blueprints, datacores and rare trade goods.

We exist because our creators, the megacorps, profit from our existence. And the people who run those organizations care about us less than we typically care about our crews.

Certainly, thinking of your crew as expendable cardboard pawns is the quick road to the sort of corruption that lets the Amarr excuse slavery. At the same time, a pod pilot would do well to remember that his crew is made up of volunteers and employees, not mindless children. They accept the risks.

One can't help but feel the sting when a crew is lost, however.

As for being an expendable pawn of mega-corps, can't the same be said of most people in these times? Our huge profits and near-immortality help soothe that minor pain.
