Some pretty elementary POS refining questions, but I've never done it, so please indulge and enlighten me.

Input/Output..
- Do you need 1 silo for input materials and 1 for output materials or can the input/output use a corp hangar array?
- How long does it take to refine? Is there a timetable for certain volumes etc?

Drone Alloys..

- Is refining Drone alloys at best 25% less efficient than the best efficiency in an NPC station?
- What skills effect this efficiency? What is the perfect refine skillset?

Ice..

- Is ice refining always at best much less efficient than the best efficiency in an NPC station?
- Can ice refining efficiency be improved any way in 0.0? Does a minmatar outpost have improved refining for example (is that why there are so many of them compared to other station types?)?

Cheers in advance, Vyk.

Sadly, I only have experience with your first question. But you don't need a silo or hangar for refining. You have to manually add and remove the stuff you're refining into the refining array. It takes a base amount of time depending on the refining stucture.

Refining Array - Will only give 35% of what your skills would refine at a 50% station. Takes 60 minutes to refine. Holds 40,000 m3.

Medium Intensive Refining Array - Will only give 75% of what your skills would refine at a 50% station. Takes 90 minutes to refine. Holds 25,000 m3.

Intensive Refining Array - Will only give 75% of what your skills would refine at a 50% station. Takes 3 hours to refine. Holds 200,000 m3.

These are all listed in the items database btw.

Items > Starbase Structures > Refining Arrays

If you're speaking of reactors, I have no idea. :)

Many Thanks for your reply.

POS Refining seems horribly inefficient. :(

it's key use is if you are many systems deep away from a station.

Ice is always refined at 100% efficiency. Scrap Metal Processing affects compound and alloy refine and yes, 75% is maximum what you get from med intensive or intensive refinery if your skills give you 100% at station.

Perfect refining skillset is:

Refining 5
Refinery efficinecy 5
Metalurgy 5
Scrap Metal Processing 2
or any other specific ore skill at 2 (tho I think with Ref. Eff. on 5 it is enought to put specific skills on lvl 1)

Scrap metal processing is the only one that requres matallurgy 5 and ref. efficinecy at 5. For ore specific skills it's enough to have ref. efficiency. But then you have to train ore specific skills to lvl 3 at least.

Cheers!

Don't suppose you also know if a POS refinery is capable module reprocessing too?

When refining drone alloys, can you refine more than 1 type at a time in a POS refinery?

That's no as in it's not possible to reprocess modules. :)

Righty-ho...Cheers.

Obviously I'm thinking of a move out to the Drone regions. I think I've gone mad enough to go try putting s POS up out there on my own (since I'm reducing my corp down to a skeleton crew of just me!).

Madness I know, but I want to build a home on my own, then use my skills (of negotiation mostly!) to keep it.

M-VACR and RAZOR alliance - you will soon have a new local resident (like it or not!).

Well all I can say is dont get too upset when you get your POS popped.
No offence as I like your way of thinking but in reality it quite possibly could end in a whole world of pain.

If I was still in an 0.0 alliance and I read this post I would do nothing...except add you to my addy book and wait....watch...and bide my time. Even let you build and set your POS up.

I dont think I need to say anymore do I as you can imagine the outcome?

Now if you hadnt made the 'like it or not' comment then id have probably ignored a one man POS if it was keeping its head down but this is just red rag to a bull and Id love to see a post from you in a few weeks time saying how you got on.

To be honest, I've spoken with high ups in RAZOR and a corp from Rule of Three previous. Although they suggested I merge my corp with one of theirs previously which I declined, regarding a un-aligned operation I did get them to say 'We won't actively hunt you'.

Though that was a while ago, so it remains to be seen - the problem I have right away is the logistics of getting a tower, fuel and kit out 30+ jumps by myself into 0.0 (and then regularly fuelling it!)...That's where it will go wrong.

Cheers,
'Red-Rag' Vyk.

Ahhh...thats a bit better Very Happy.

As you said though the logistics are a nightmare especially if not showing 'blue'. I have done a lot of hauling through 0.0 over the years and I know just how hard it is if you are solo .

I wish you luck though and fair play for trying it.

Are you aware that rats in drone regions don't give bounty? All they do is drop alloys and compounds. When you convert them to minerals and sell those you can get a fair share of money for it, but you'll have to haul it to the refinery unless you'll be refining in your own pos. And you'll have to haul those minerals back to empire.

Yeah....aware of the lack of bounty.

I got BPCs of every blueprint I'd ever need so it'd be a manufacturer's dream. Ok, so I'd be flying full tech I fitted ships, but in no time I'd have a small fleet of my own built!

There is serious lack of low end minerals. Rats will drop alloys and compounds that are rich in high end minerals.

from what ive understood (and seen) you need at least ice proccesing lvl 1/2 to get 100% yield from you refinary
