Just to make that clear ... I have no interest in screwing anybody over.

I just have to much time at hand when driving at home and getting stuck in a traffic jam.
I thought "What if I want to make it public !"

The original post is the result.

As to the players that think I am anonymous even to them ... think again.

Once I register a website name like eve-settings.com ... my name shows in the WHOIS record since I would do it as private person. So anybody can knock on me door and whack me over the head with a sharp object if they want to.

Pre-emptive strike edit. No, I won't use fake info.

Possibly, but who really cares? If this guy did do something like this, his chars are logged here, ccp have his cc info, his ip, he would be sued.

You guys whine too much. I probably wouldn't release my source either.

You know you can play the game without paying with a CC right? (/rant)

One of the reasons he doesn't want to release the source-code is because he wants to earn isk.
By releasing it, he risks someone just taking his work and making their own private version and use that instead of his.
So that's where we stand today. Closed source, untrusted 3rd party app which a handfull who trusts him will use.
The rest of us will forget that this thread ever existed after a week..

The effort would have been only on my part with OpenSource it's not anymore.
Without license for ISK ... I gain nothing.

Explain the scam in this ?

this is all pointless. the only application with reguards to eve i will ever trust is eve. ccp are the only people that will ever know my details, so stop trying to scam people out of their information, just for a few settings being saved remotely onyour server. ccp should look into this, it's a very public form of scam.

How can this be a scam when it's not even available?

Most people aren't overacting, a while back CCP said not to use third party software because some dirtbags where stealing accounts. Also, unless I'd be concerned about EULA violations.

As for using a tumbdrive or other backup source, I currently use a nifty little program Called Synback to copy my eve folders to a drive on another mechine. Main thing I would find cool about this is the restore point and the fact I wouldn't have to worry about making sure I have my settings. Thats the appeal to me, but if it never gets released, oh well. As far as Vista is concerned, I dont even like using Windows XP cause I dont trust microsoft. As far as just redoing all the setting, folders are a pain to redo along with going through overview settings so I would rather save a 5 minutes. I think this is a good idea but would not be disappointed if we never saw anything else about it.

Your wish is granted. Last post ... char goes into the trasher and the offer to make life in EVE-Online a little easier also.

The initial responses to the thread are just outright nonsense. I learned that even in a close(d) community like EVE trust comes with fame or reputation. Having none, everybody thinks it's a scam or keylogger infested.

OpenSource is not the solution to all evil here and I hope and pray that the players that pushed for it never ever use anything else then applications created under OpenSource. Otherwise they are just hypocrites.

I just keep using it myself and be merry with it.

So long,

EVE Settings.
