maybe agents could also be the solution to the current bounty problem? instead of a free-for-all, maybe people could contact agents, & contract a "hit" on a certain player... then other players going to that agent might be offered a shot at taking out the mark.... with a time limit, of course, & a last known location of the mark... ala locator service-type info... then if the player didn't tag the mark within the alotted time, the npc agent would start offering that mission again... It'd much more difficult for someone marked with a contract hit as opposed to a bounty, to claim the reward for themselves.

The problem is not targets collecting their own bounties -- that is not possible. The problem is targets can easily get their friends to collect their bounties for them. How does your system stop that?

the way I read it, it stops it quite effectively. With NPC's controlling who gets the missions, unless you have friends camping 24/7 at the agent booth to get your hit mission, you'd pretty much be leaving it to chance. The only real problem I see with this is if the time limit is too low, the person who has a hit against them can just wait it out in a dock or something...

Quite a nice idea Ris.

Reminds me of a very old thread discussion assasinations, which is basically how this could line up hits not just on those with negative sec ratings, but also allow an in-game system for assasinations of characters in positive sec.

Say political hits against an enemy for which you don't want to be seen as the agressor, or other such likes.

Heres the old thread trying to discuss options about assasinations. Perhaps you can find some more information in there, a mix of ideas perhaps:

RAIDAKAOZ,a target only needs a friend to be the bounty hunter once to collect a bounty for them -- not 7 days a week. That friend also has a tremondous advantage in collecting the bounty, because the target meets him in a noob ship at a specific time and place to get the podkilling donen quickly. The proposed system also severely limits the number of bounty hunters, making the target's life a lot easier. What garurentee do you have that the preson who accepts the mission from the agent is not in cahoots with the target? Why should anyone put any money into a bounty when there is a significant likihood that the target will get the money?

I like the idea... Note that a bounty hunter is NOT the same thing as an assasin. Bounty hunting should be carried out as it currently is. Assasinations are a completely different deal altogether, usually involving more along the lines of a personal vendetta than random money gathering.
