Get some ballistic controls in the lows. Lose the rails if you have to.

-High-
5x named Heavy missile - loaded with kinetics
1x 125mm Railgun - ping at frigs and get agro for drones
1x small tractor beam - cause it's so slow I fall asleep (this is new as I just got the skill, previously had a completely useless NOS, useless cause this uses no cap)

-Med-
5x Large shield extender

-low-
1x power daignostic system - need it to fit
3x D-Type ? Shield power relay

-Drone bay-
3 (my skill atm) of whatever I have in my hangar to fit the space, 2 mdm and a light? I'm always forgetting to pick them up, so they change a lot.

Think I have a shield recharge implant, but if I do it'll be the most basic one.

That's from memory. Would be better with an extra SPR if I can get my skills up.
Uses no cap what-so-ever.
I hate how slow it is, but it's still faster than my CEO's raven, and his new drake.

I ran some numbers on the tanking spreadsheet to fit my ferox, no matter what combination of resists I tried, nothing came close to the passive regen of 5 large extenders. 4 large extenders is completely different, has to be 5 to get the benefit. I know cause during some lag 1 of mine got turned off somehow, and had a few near death experiences until I realised.

So far, I'm around 2 months old, and tanking pretty well through level 3's. Need the occasional warp to recharge if I'm overwhelmed, but only on 2 missions so far.
Once I get some engineering skills up, and T2 extenders, I think level 3's will be a walk in the park.

Rats laugh at HAMs, especially guristas. Range is your friend. Remember that.

I hate sarcastic responses but if you want to fit missiles buy a Drake, you know the Caldari BC that is a missile boat. There is no reason anymore to mount 5x missiles on a Ferox, please just stop this madness right now. Ferox = Rails, Drake = Missiles. Got that? Just look at the bonus descriptions if that's not easy enough for you.

I'd guess that without an afterburner, or a microwarpdrive, the ferox might be too slow to make good use of heavy assault missiles... it'd take forever to get in range, especially if the rats are moving away from you

Ferox gets a hybrid RANGE bonus, so damage-wise it's irrelevant in PvE what you prefer to use, rails or missiles, you get damage bonuses on none of either.
Now, you can argue the Drake is a better missile platform, and you would be right. That still doesn't change the fact the Ferox is as good of a missile boat as it is a rail platform.
And on top of it all, Ferox is a LOT easier to passive-tank as the Drake with low skillpoints, because it has a good deal better PG as the Drake.

Back on the subject, you don't need NOS nor PDUs to fit 5xheavies and 2 or even 3 hardners if you have good cap and fitting skills.
I fly a 2xLSE, 3xhardner, 1 BCU, 3xSPR, 5x heavies (+tractor+salvager) Ferox in missions and I never run out of cap.

Hmm as said try this

(Yes i KNOW it fits)

HI:
5x Heavy missiles
2x well..whateva, using a drone range mod and a med remote repper for repping drones

MED:
2x rat specific passive hards T2 (doing a kinetic/explosive one, witch gives me fine resists)
3x LSE II (nice HP there)

LOW:

2x Sheidl power relay
2x BCU II (had BCU Is but after 2 months decided to spoil myself)

This is a low-sec/0.0 setup, all stuff thats one (exept BCU IIs) can be looted in Angel loot. AKA easy replaceable if killed (hasnt found anything exept a t2 blaster megat that could kill me yet)

I can tank all Spawns good, Only problem is the Angel Saints, their Em dmg hurts, exept that you are alright.(highest killed/tanked was a 2.7 mil BS in a mission)

With this, and my skills I get 60% thermal resist,70% Kinetic,80% explosive, and 50% em.Just working on boosting my EM resist as much as I can right now.

No, I have to agree with the couple of peeps that have said you're all crazy for still putting missiles on a ferox.

It DOES matter, because on a ferox, especially with lv 5 BC skill, you're shooting AM and Uranium ammo doing huge dmg to targets 40km away, WITHOUT any tracking comps.

If you want to whine about lower sp, and blah, and want to use missiles... use a CARACAL. Save up. Get a Drake. If however, you have good skills, lv4+ BC, and want to really use a ferox and specialize as a railgun Caldari, see below:

---- "Cannonball" ----
5x t2 250mm railguns
2x assault launchers (the real/old ones)

2x active shield resists (4x for really huge battles)
2x sheild rechargers
1x t2 large shield xtender

1x mag stab type
1x shield relay
2x t2 PDU

...you want more range & max dmg?
5x 250mm rails
2x hvy launcher

2x tracking comps
1x target painter (on cruiser/frig rats at least)
1x shield recharger
1x large shield xtender

2x mag stab type
1x PDU
1x t2 RCU

...totally passive, non-specific tank, 12+k shields:
5x 250mm rails
2x assault launcher

2x shield recharger
3x large shield xtender

2x shield relay
2x t2 RCU

...I really haven't been using shield boosters much lately. They seem to suck down way too much cap, and give too little regen, compared to what a passive tank can achieve with no cap used at all. You can waste all your med & low slots on cap recharge modules, just to run 1 shield boost non-stop... and it still won't save you in a huge fight.

Ok, i've been using a Ferox for over a month now with missles and its a great ship. YES it may be meant to be used with rails but it can easily pwn lvl3's and even some lvl 4's (with t2 gear)

At the moment i get about 60km with my heavies and 45km with light missles on it. This is taking into consideration that i have missle bombardment and missle projection both at level 4.
I may be noob at this game compared to many but i do know this. A ferox can be easily just as good with rails as with missles so quit it saying they suck.
Drakes are better though for missles if you want to go with them....ferox looks so awsomely mean though

My ferox fit currently (used for lvl 3's)
High's
X5 - XR-3200 Heavy missle bay
The other 2 slots i use depending on the situation sometimes i put a salvager/tractor there and sometimes rails, you can really just do anything with it.

Meds
x1 - Large shield extender
x1 - Large shield extender II
x3 - Mission/rat specific hardeners

Lows
x2 power diagnostic unit
x1 damage control
x1 ballistic control system

Note: i havn't been motivated to get all t2 stuff

I never run out of cap with all the hardeners and the damage control active, it runs forever.

of course not, launchers and hardeners use virtually no cap.

It's still poor tho. If you can afford to setup a ferox with any named launchers or t2 gear, you should be flying a fully t2 equip'd caracal or drake instead. They're almost the same price nowadays. Even a drake with std t1 equip will do better than the 'rox, and be cheaper to equip.

For L3's

5 T2 250mm railguns AM/Thor/Lead/Ir/Spike
2 T2 Assault Launchers std/rage/jav

2 T2 Passive Shield Amps (rat spec)
1 T2 LG Shield extender
2 free slots (sensor boosters, painters, web, tracking comp what ever you feel the need for)

2 T2 PDS
2 T2 Mag Stabs

5 T2 light drones

Does the trick.

A "Disposable" low skill point Ferox:

Highs:
4x 250mm Railgun I
3x Heavy Missile Launcher I

Mids:
1x Magnetic Scattering Amplifier I
1x Heat Dissipation Amplifier I
1x Invulnerability Field I
2x Medium Shield Extender I

Lows:
1x Power Diagnostic Unit I
1x Damage Control I
1x Tracking Enhancer I
1x Magnetic Field Stabilizer I

The 2x Med Extenders in the Mids actually add more regen than 2x Med Shield Rechargers.

And obviously, with named or T2 you can do a lot better, but for a low skill character, disposable parts are better to play with.

This Ferox sports 60%+ Shield resists in every catagory when the Invul is active. Cap isn't a problem at all. Lead charges can reach out to 40k easy, 53k with falloff.

It's a fairly nasty little loadout for the new Ferox user.

Ferox= 25mill and has better PG but lower CPU.
Drake= 45mill and has KINETIC missile bonuses better CPU but lower PG. 1 extra midslot.

Ferox is still cheaper so if you're on a budget and doing missions that require damage types other than kinetic then missile ferox is still a good thing to use.

PvP is a different story. Cool

The Ferox build i use (can solo every lvl 3 mission i've ever faced...with less than 2.5 mil SP, most of those in industry and science at that)

So i'll call this one the poor and unskilled yet effective ferox loadout XD

High: 3x 250mm Compressed coil guns (using either Antimatter or Iridium)
2x XR-3200 Heavy Launchers
2x SV-2000 Assault Launchers

Mid: 2x Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I
1x Shield Resistance Amplifier (Mission Specific)
2x Shield Hardeners (Mission Specific)

Low: 2x type-d power core modification: diagnostic system
1x beta reactor control: shield power relay 1
1x emergency damage control 1

Drones: 3x Hobgoblin 1's (35km range)

No rigs (remember the poor and unskilled part)
No special implants

Now watch as everyone laughs, but as a setup for PvE high-sec level 3 mission running, it handles everything that can be thrown at it, with at most, 1 warp out in the hardest of missions (see also: guristas blockade). The assault launchers and drones make quick work of the frigates and destroyers frequently seen in lvl 3's, and the heavy missiles and railguns handle the cruisers quite well. Some of the HAC's take a little longer to drop, but they still go down, and aren't that common to begin with.

Relevant skills (remember, this setup is specifically designed for someone with low combat skills...like mine, less than 2 months of play time)
Medium Hybrid turret 2
Drones 3
Scout Drone Operation 3
Heavy Missiles 2
Standard Missiles 3
Battlecruisers 2
Other related missile/gunnery skills - 2
Shield related skills - 2 or 3

(all mods were found in the course of normal gameplay...none were purchased, and all prototype gauss and arbalests were sold)
