Roleplayers? Neutral

I haven't met any roleplayers in EVE yet, nor ever seen one post ugh

Now I'm gonna assume that atleast one person is going to say some VARIATION of "Duhhh, intergalactic summit n00b!" and tell me that there are roleplayers in EVE....Laughing

Right, you mean those who sit day in and day out going Amarr -"We don't like you cause you don't agree with us *PEW PEW!!*" Minmatar" - Yeah well we don't like you either!! *counter-PEW PEW* " - Gallente comes in - "WtF m8's ? ^_^ I have no idea whats going on! la dee dah!!" - Caldari "ARGHH MOTHERLAND!!!..We're going to attack you for no apparent reason..cause...none of you got it right! *missile-PEW PEW*"

I'm sorry I have yet to see a decent RP session happen anywhere, where you actually take the time and effort to RP what you do, all the way down to controlling your ship, having a RP conversation in local or something - I mean what I wouldn't give to see a really creative RP session in just one solar system, done to the MAX..you know..creativeness on what you're doing, and how you're operating your ship etc etc..EVEN IF IT GOES OUTSIDE WHATS ACTUALLY HAPPENING GAME MECHANIC WISE...but no one does that.

If that sort of RP existed, I'd go back to being an RP'er instead of a pirate..but..since it doesnt...YARRRR!! YARR!!

They do happen i have had one or two with CVA . As for real RP with our ships... does suicide smartbombing terrorists at an amarr rally count? If so then we were ther blowing our selves up for an ideal and in character.

as an oldschooll RPer from back in the 80's who continued right through to now i can see waht you mean. There is a lack of good RP and some of it ends up being nothing more than saying the same old tired lines folowed by f1-8. We could use more real RP, more pirates like the late Veron, who still RP's but i miss his pirate ways :P

If you want to see more real RP make it happen there are plenty of people who dont even know they like RP till they start doing it. My roommate is a perfect example, he never thought much of RP till he went on a few raids with me and then all of a sudden he was like... damn this is the 3rd dimension of the game i was missing!

Bring the RP to the people and they will respond.

On a side and more serious note:

Any, and I mean anyone, who uses Ye Olde English in roleplay should be tarred and feathered. Geez! It has nothing to do with roleplay, much less that in EVE.

Who the **** talks like that anyways?

Can you guys even type that **** with a straight face!?

I mean, I even get all giggly when folks start pulling philosophy lectures in "The Summit". ugh

I always put the thee and thou stuff down to being thats how the Amarr talk. It is a bit of a stretch in a sci-fi game though but I'll overlook it Wink

What gets me in Eve but especially fantasy / D&D RP is how polite everyone is when they RP. Hearing some cutthroat rogue talking like he was working for the BBC blows my mind.

I always go for the down to earth, common as **** rogue type and talk like it. If you eva run inta an 'alfling by the name Eddie Watchdodger it was more an' like me, so check yer coin once I'm well gone.Wink

As for the 'olde English' accents thing don't you think we just sit there chuckling while the Burn Eden member scratches his head and tries to come up with a response to the confusing smack Razz

Yeah, let's all RP in local.

RPer "Amarr are imperialist nutjobs"
nINJApIRATE "rolplayer? LOL GHEY!"
bob1 "***ot!"
tardass "u fat homo!"

...etc.

As for how Amarr speak, you might want to read the backstory Roxanna. See if you look at the tab to your left, there's one called "Backstory".

Besides, they took the space, they can do what the hell they want with it, you don't like it throw them out.

Maybe they mistook you for a RPer 'cause your char name isn't "NuYorkYankees" or something. Maybe you should start a new character? Or quit eve?

Can I have your stuff? Laughing

why do role players speak in a very ancient English all the time?
I went to *** space, recently, i guess you know were iam about to say.

Role player: Pirate scum why do you defile *** space with your
presence. Do you wish death upon yourselves? Do you wish to
feel the cleansing light of god? I thought you blasphemers
beyond redemption? Why do you bring yourselves to this land?

Which part of this is ancient English? I don't see any thee and thous. Or is anything thats not 'wtf ftw' considered ancient English? Laughing

Secondly, roleplayers don't speak in ancient English all the time. I been in the roleplay community for 2 years+ in Eve and have yet to see that.

Sounds quite interesting definition for roleplaying; probably not too useful one in the context here. Or, dooes one automatically roleplay a queen when he moves her across a chestboard?

In my observations most of the actual roleplaying in Eve happens inside corps, and it is not really targeted to be enjoyed by outsiders.

Those who get irritated by some variant of roleplaying in local can just use the same tactics as roleplayrs will use: learning to ignore the elements that do not fit in their desired scope.

Arr, ancient english be fer pansies i say!

*cough* Anyway, Burn Eden are hilarious in their own way but let's not get into details. /emote worships SATAN* Laughing

To be honest i haven't seen anyone talk in "ancient english", and that, my friend, is just zealous Amarr RPers, nothing to do with ancient english, it's actually very much normal.

On another note, I'm really and i mean ~really~ tired of the same old recycled sentences every day, again and again. "Bow down before your Amarr masters" " This place belongs to the Amarr empire" and on the other side "Get out of here slavers, we're free" ~whatever. It just gets boring after a while, and those that talk to me in local know it. Yeah, i actually RPd with you BE guys in local too, bet you didn't guess that. Laughing

But then again the occasional Gallente or Caldari saying "Bow down before us, we Amarr are here to teach you" or somesuch thing really cheers me up. Laughing

even though it's not interested me enough personally to put a lot of effort into it, I think roleplay does add another diminsion to eve in terms of getting immersed in the game...blue vs red is fun and all, but having an actual reason for fighting besides smacktalk kinda, I dunno, adds to the longevity I guess.

I think the problem comes in when people playing see other players roleplaying and think they actually believe what they're saying in real life. They don't Razz Provided you keep in mind they know they're playing a game as much as you do, they're just better at pretending they aren't while they're playing it, it's not weird at all Smile

as for the nerd thing, I agree with some of the earlier posters...we're in an online forum for a massively multiplayer online game in a thread about roleplaying. pot, kettle, black Razz

Wait wait! I know the real answer.

No, I was wrong the first time, its not butt pirates.

Its because all the roleplayers on here used to RP on Everquest, UO, etc.

Though I hate old English on there too. More fitting there than here, I suppose. We should be talking like Tron..Yeah..Tron.

That or we should all RP in Latin.

There is a simple, yet somewhat sublte, thing that you seem to misunderstand.

When you go into amarr space and they get all preachy on you, it's not you they are trying to convert to an in game religion. It's Roxanna Kell's soul they are trying to save by bringing her to God's light. I certainly hope they don't follow the amarrian religion IRL 'cause they'd be in a lot of trouble.
*Amarr player gets arrested.
Amarr player: Anything wrong officer?
Police: License and registration plea... why do you have a person in shackles on your back seat?
Amarr player: Oh, he's just one of my slaves. I'm bringing him back to god's will.
Police: Huh.. slave? He looks in pretty bad shape. Did you do that to him?
Amarr player: Well, I must cleanse his corrupt soul through the fires of God's light! Besides, they a little more than animals, right?
Police: Please step out of the car, sir.
Amarr player: *takes out a flashlight* PEW-PEW AMARR VICTOR!!!
*car runs off with police in pursuit*

Of course you are her and she is you but from a RP point of view, you are different persons... or you could be if you decided to RP it up a bit. You, sitting at your desk in front of the computer, are simply breathing life into the entity that is Roxanna.

I much prefer the local smack by CVA (something about cleaning our system with holy lasers or something) then to have some leet-speeking idiot without a sense of humor smacking me.

As for my RP: I choose to fashion myself after a bloodsucking murdering lunatic, and slowly but surely, I'm growing in the role.
