I seriously can;t make my mind up.

They both have their good / bad points.

I'm drawn toward the Phoon though because of it's much larger drone capacity.

Which is the prefered Minnie BS these days !

Seems phoon is great for npc ratting and AC Tempest is great for pvp. But I dont fly them myself since im in love with speedy cruisers. Wink

They're both fun to fly, but the Phoon does rather underline the phrase "Specialising in Minmatar is an oxymoron". I prefer the Phoon for close range gankage and the Tempest for longer range stuff :)

And which one is best for missions? Phoon seems better for Armor Tank but I am afraid of Cap problems. I just seems nobody is running lvl4 in one of the ships or at least all the fitting suggestions on the forums are for low-sec-ratting or PVP.

Greetings...

P.S.: With missions i mean AC setup with big tank, as most of the deadspace missions require this as you cannot jump-in in safe distance for your artillery and especially cannot maintain distance because of "cheating" MWD-npcs.

Typhoon is better for beginers (without T2 guns)
My fit for lvl4 missions (I don't have problem with most of them)
hi: 4x 1200mm T1 (or 4x 800mm) , 3x heavy missile and Dron Aug. (or 4x heavy missile)
med: 2x t.painter (or 1x t.painter and web),2x eutectic
low:1x 1600mm, 3-4 actvie hardner t1, LAR 'accp', cap relay
And full dronbay.

For pvp i don't have skill yet but i think about:
4x 800mm t2,2x cruise missile 2x h.nos
1x t.painter t2, web, s.booster t2, ab t2 ?
1x 1600mm t2, LAR t2, 3x active hardner t2, 2x gyro t2 (or gyro t2 and cap relay)

I'm trying to get a good phoon setup at the mo (I spec in rails not proj so proving difficult) Am trying to get something like this to fit but need more lvls of adv weap upgrades

highs
4xseigeII
4xdual250 TII or pref 4x350TII

mids
heavy cap inj
cap re IIs

lows
3/4 hardeners (some TII some Ntype)
1 plate
BCU/RCU
large TII rep
med TII rep

is proving difficult to fit as the hybrids take shedloads of power

Here's a hint. Don't fit hybrids.

Laughing @ above posts

Edit:

On a more constructive note, if you have ample skillpoints, the tempest is better overall. The typhoon still has its niche though.

If you want to PVP a good tactic in low sec empire with Tempest is:

Warp in at range. Instalock. Fire two volleys while warping out.

Warp somewhere else. Warp back in at range. Instalock. Fire two volleys while warping out.

Repeat until your target cries and leaves or is destroyed for being stupid enough to stay there.

Works good with more than one tempest as well.

i run lvl 4s in a Phoon, it is a poor set-up for low sec ratting do to the cap booster

4 d650 IIs, 4 cruise launcher IIs
ABII, web, drone link, heavy cap booster
LAR2, MAR2, 4 Hardeners (I mix and match), Gyro II

5 Heavies, 5 Mediums

Or you can use Heavy Missile Launcher II with 800 IIs in the His and you can fit a LAR dual repper. Still has plenty of dps to take down BSs and eats NPC cruisers for lunch.

Phoon has more shields than armor with a slot-setup that says ARMORTANK ME!!!! Sad

If 'the little things' annoy you, dont fly Typhoon.

all of the setups except for boogymans really suck.

For close range NPCing I use...

Hi:4x D650mm ACs, 4x Siege
Med: 4x Cap Recharger
Low: 1x LAR, 4x Active Hardeners, 2x CPR

If you have average missile skills, average gunnery skills and average drone skills. Fly a phoon.

If you have great gunnery skills and maxed BS skill. Fly a Tempest.

With tech II turrets/missile launchers, the phoon has a hard time fitting it all. It relies too heavily on drones to deal out damage and despite having a larger than usual dronebay, doesn't quite cut it.

A Tempest with the better mid slot layout, and with the dual dmg bonii and good gunnery skills makes an awesome ship.

It's my understanding that the Tempest is only really GOOD to fly if you have T2 Large Projectiles. If not, stick with the Typhoon.

I'm actually Minmatar specced, but I fly a Raven because it's easier to fly well than either of the Minmatar BS's. However, I'm working towards T2 Medium guns now (for my vaga!) and once I have that it's Tempest time!
