I'm fresh from playing some Freespace 2. There's a stage in the game where your ships's radar is significantly reduced in its effectiveness by the ionised environment (or something along those lines). Equally, the dense nebula cloud prevents you from seeing much with your eyes.
It occurred to me that seeing an enemy Brutix appearing in front of you out of the mist would be nothing short of ****ing scary.
Combat environments that hamper your visibility, overview (flickering infos appearing and disappearing?) and such would add a real touch of .. fear to the game. |

It sure would, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll stumble upon an enemy ship in a dust field. Remember, you can't really see them until they're a few km away, and the distances in EvE are large.
Tactical environmental considerations are always cool, though. I'd like to see a way for interference to mess with you. Maybe if certain anomalies would affect your overview, so you couldn't see ship types or sizes, or could only get an approximation of their position, or couldn't calculate distance.
Lots of cool things could be done with this. I hope they work it into the game in the coming months. |
