In low security space ......

*Crash!* - The pilot of the Bestower smashed his fist in the command and control console in an un-technical effort to resolve what surely must have been a malfunction.

"It's about time the corporation got this fixed" he yelled over the corporate waveband to his colleague.

"Still having problems with the capacitor readout?" The Omen pilot responded.

"Yep - but it seems to be still dropping - I don't get it - I'm not running anything with a high level of drain. It has to be a sensor malfunction! Perhaps we should have a word with our supplier - tell him to fit better sensors next time". Even while he was speaking, slowly but surely the capacitor dropped another notch. Reluctantly, the bestower pilot got our of his seat and moved to the data terminal to search for a manual on the corporate network.

"We have another incoming ...a Sancha's I think!!". The Omen pilot switched off his Miner 1's and released a handful of light combat drones in to the void. The cruiser gently realigned itself to the new target and moved off at a steady 200m/s.

Now it wasn't his greatest skill so it was no surprise to find that Industrial pilot couldn't find the manual. Looking back over his shoulder he could see that the capacitor core was now only showing 1/4 full. "It must be a core leak .. but how??" A flash of light distracted him from his momentary worries and then the proximity alarms on the bestower flashed and screamed into action.

"What the hell - that ain't no Sancha's??!!!"

It was time for him to move! Something had gone wrong and bits of Omen were nicely decorating the asteroid belt over a 2000 m stretch. Advancing cruisers neatly picked their way through the debris.

As a precaution, he always had an escape vector programmed in so he could make a quick exit, before some flea bitten pirate corp scrambled him and kicked his arse in to space without a suit. He jammed the auto pilot control ..

** FSSZZzzzzzzz..... **

### You do not have enough power to engage warp - please initiate capacitor recharge procedures ###

Glancing at the aft monitor he could see the shimmering signature of a ship de-cloaking - streams of energy sapping Nosferatu and Ghoul rays leaching the victim of precious energy.

Fastening the pilot seat safety straps - the most he could pray for was a safe ride home in his pod ....

============================

OK - so excuse the poor prose - but I hope you get the idea. When cloak comes in it's likely to be something like an 80-90% shield nerf with a whole load of other downsizing in other areas. But it would also be a nice opportunity if some of the more useless units (Nosferatu as an example) could be used - maybe as area of effect devices to get round the targeting while cloaked issue.

Just a thought.

Nice story, and I agree. But knowing CCP (they made EVERYTHING a hostile action, which also eliminated the ability to deal with ore-thiefs, for example), that won't happen.

Btw:

You cannot cloak your ship while you have targets locked.
You cannot cloak your ship as you are being targeted by someone else.
You cannot warp while you are cloaked.
You cannot target anything while you are cloaked.
You fail to dock because you are cloaked.
You fail to jump because you are cloaked.

unfortuantly i thought this may be the case... so cloaking only prevents you from being targetted and you can move in close for a close attack maybe.. but that be about it.

Yes but they did tell us that cloaking was going to be heavily nerf'ed at the begining and slowly add more abilites as they continue to test it and balance the cloak ability.

With this in mind - perhaps the story should have read:

The pilot of the frigate quickly moved to the ships scanner to check the system for targets.

"Nice" .. he laughed to himself at the thought of what he was about to do. The Omen and Bestower would be easy meat after they had been leached of energy - like taking candy from a baby. All he had to do was engage cloak and move in.

### WARNING - ILLEGAL CLOAK SCENARIO DETECTED - CLOAK ABORTED - CODE 115 ###

"Eh???" Confused, he picked up the 'Sneaky Tech - Cloaker's Hell 1000' Manual. Thumbing his way to the section covering CODE 115 he quickly translated the error code.

CODE 115 - The pilot is wearing blue shoes and, as such, it invalidates cloak capability

"Damn!" The pilot quickly kicked of his blue suede shoes - "they we're a present from my wife!".

He engaged cloak once more -

### WARNING - ILLEGAL CLOAK SCENARIO DETECTED - CLOAK ABORTED - CODE 959 ###

"What now huh?? What now!!"

CODE 959 - Cloaking can be engaged only every other Tuesday after a magic coconut Wednesday

"Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!"

etc .. etc .. etc ..
