Ok, so EVE is a huge place, with lots of regions and star systems...and a lot of them are REALLY hard (if not impossible) to pronounce.....anyone ever think about putting together a guide of all the systems, and how to properly pronounce them?

It will always be open to interpretation.
Take for example; Obe
I say it "Oh-Buh" silent E
I think more people pronounce it "Oh-Bee"

I would put forward the -MC- to post the offical pronunciations of system names.
Probably more than any other group they use/say system names, when they're on the hunt.

Edit: man I love my grammer and spelling, or lack there of

see?...this is what i'm talking about...you say it with two cyllables....i always thought it was one...

there really should be an oficial guide to this stuff...

take cistuvaert for example, me and my friends have always pronounced it "Sist-ru-vert"....

oh, and someone said something about norwegian....how's that work, man?

i mean, some of these things are rediculously simple...but some are really tough....like avaux for example...it's gallente, so it's basicly french...so it is "Ay-Vaux" or "Ay-vou"?...can you see where the confusion comes in?

...is that a real system name, or a joke?

if it's real, then that's weird...if it's a joke, then it's not a very good one, as "asshat" is pretty easy to figure out Very Happy

Well, the system Balle is a most rude word for a guy's genital in swedish.

Berta (yes, a system) is a girl's name.

Cladari regions seem to be faux japanese.

As such, I pronounce the regions for example:

Inoue (Oddly enough this is also a surname)
I-no-u-e

Kisogo
Ki-so-go

Etc.. of course my understnding of Icelandic isn't anywhere as good as my japanese or chinese so these could also be plays on the language as well. Though it would make sense since the Cladari have an Zaibatsu affinify with it's corporate police state theme and all.
ugh

It's 8 jumps from Amarr.

'ar shat' or 'ars hat', lol. Good job it's not spelt with an 'e' in the middle.

My personal favourite system names though are 'Lower Debyl' which is next to 'Upper Debyl'. Can't find 'Much Debyling' anywhere though.

But I leave you with this gem from the MS Windows Shell API. It's the type of a Shell Item Identifier : ****EMID

Edit:Yay - the forum censor blocked it out.

Avaux = Ah-voh (the A is like in 'apple' not a Ay and 'vaux' is like the 'vo' in 'vortex'.) Basically, 'au' ,'aux', 'eau', 'eaux' sound the same in french -> OH !

you know there are many system names with questionable meaning in different languages..
I can speak from the Russian point of view..
Sosala - (she) did suck
Niyabaynen - obscene, something implying not having sex

there are lots of other examples, these just came to mind instantly :)

I know what you mean about this.

Some of the really daft Caldari ones are easier if you put the stress on the second syllable, so:

kaKAkela instead of kakaKEla or KAkakela.

and

soBaseki instead of SObaSEki.

though I have to admit going for the latter version of soba.

I think it's an individual thing though/

all very interesting....

to the guy who asked what system was giving me a problem....there isn't any one system name that spawned this thread..it's just Gallente system names in general...if could remember how to spell the majority of them, i'd list em....

I just wanna be able to jump into a system, and know how to say it's name. I wanna be able to direct my friends over TeamSpeak to a system, and not sound like a ******, struggling with my words...that's all really.

like the "History of Eve" project, i think this could be a worthwhile thing to do....what do you folks think?

actually in dutch the second vowel just lengthens the first, so it would be 'sistuvaart' in dutch (lots of dutchies usually get the 'ae' wrong :P)
