I was mining solo again tonight and have thought about contracting out my services, But after much of a debate i have decided that i will see just how many others are out there like me. Basically the idea is that we wouldnt be a corp but a group of people who are like minded and are willing to do contract work. That way provided enough talk is generated corps could eve mail Tenders to us insteed of looking for single contractable guys. I have made a ingame channel called CMG-PUB and if any interested partys would like to get hold of me they should send a EVE mail to oneeye crusader.

any feedback on this idea would be good.

I'd be interesting in joining you with that idea.

So, rather than directly selling your minerals, corps could "hire you" for mining ops and take them minerals in exchange for wages?

like -- "be here at this time, and but x units of x in this can or this hauler?"

I think its a good idea. And im for it i think. Its kind of Like a union...sort of. But what would be the difference for a corp to hire 'us' rather than a mining corp?

I know if i were hiring this group i would think one corp would be more adventageous than a bunch of random guys working together. Or am i wrong.

I still think its an interesting idea...and will contact you in game soon (can't im at work right now supposed to be working...ugh)

Idea This is a good idea.

I myself use contractors at times when I need to meet quota and the Corp needs to have fun. I find myself introduced to many direct deals that involve the procurement of large amounts of minerals in a short amount of time. Your timing to start such an endeavor is perfect.

I have an adressbook of buyers and emerging opportunities that can keep you very busy.

I really like this idea, my corp is very small so most of my mining operations are solo.

I am a newer player, so my primary question would be, are there some sort of restrictions on whom would be allowed into this group?

I will join the channel however, I hope to see you there. Thank you for bringing this idea up. I absolutely adore mining, so this would be right up my alley.

yes good idea that needs to be put out there and dont know why there arent 500 other such corps as it's a very necessary thing. I'll join that channel, but, as you can see, i'm already involved in corps.

my only question is, if you got 10 guys, and a week to mine for a billion isk, how do you divide up the cash afterwards? what if billy was only mining for a couple days, and john spent most of the time in empire, etc.

actually the (facist) way i've seen it done (sorry to answer my own question...guess this is a suggestion), is that someone can put up a website, (or even just take notes), and whoever's in charge of each mining op can take note of either the m3 of ore that person mined, the time spent, the time spent tanking, or how many hauler trips, (latter two are hard to decide, so usually I see those roles also get equal amount).

easiest thing to do I guess is: after every mining op, look at the total that you got, and then divide that up amongst who was involved, each time.

sorry to ramble...i do that when im tired. good idea, and good luck.

I've worked a few group mining ops, all multi-corp as it happens; coming up with a fair division up the proceeds has struck me as the single biggest obstacle. The only time I have ever really been satisfied with the split is the one group that let me set the percentages myself. No one complained, and it seemed fair to me, but I wonder if some felt as ripped off as I have in other ops I have worked in when I didn't have much control over the split.

I don't have a solution to offer, but I would like to see other people's thoughts on division schemes.

Well the way I see it, there is two ways to handle this. Both would have a Mining lead foreman which would be responsible for two major components. One would be to get buyer contracts. Two would be to correctly document and receive minerals/ore.

The first part is easy, well, of the two it is. It would be to the success of the group that many buyers would be attracted. So this responsibility would be on the foremen to create these relationships.

The second part would be taking in the minerals/ore from the miners. The only real way this can be totally trusted is if the Forman has enough isk to pay out in advance what has been delivered by the miner. The reason I say this is two-fold. First off, this would eleviate any mis-payments or in the instance where say 15 miners have given the foremen 50 million isogen, and he can only sell 10 million of it, which of the miners gets the pay off? it would be an administrative nightmare. This way, the foreman and the miner have set rates that can fluctuate with the movement in the rate that the minerals are at. Also, the rate may change from which region that this is based in compared to another. So given this scenario, Miner A comes to the foremanís station and delivers xxx amount of minerals, he is paid the set rate, probably 5% less than the selling rate that way the foreman is making a profit for his work. The advantage to the miner is this is constant, he doesnít have to wait on buyers, he just brings his ore/minerals and gets paid. Rinse and repeat. This is the same for each miner in the operation.

Given this scenario, the Forman/supplier should always have plenty of product for his customers. The miners always can sell at a decent rate. Win/win for everyone, including the buyers because it is consistent, one representative to deal with. In America, we call this individual a Manufacturers Rep. Middle man.

I would suggest that there would be a few or more drop points or product holding stations in popular trade areas that the foreman would be selling his product from, and the miners would be delivering to. This can serve two purposes. First more miners can participate and not have to travel 30+ jumps to deliver their product. Also, the Forman can serve customers better too by having multiple delivery points. The rates for the product can vary too depending on the regions value of the product. That way the Miner has the option to deliver to different locations to make more isk, if the risk is work it.

The foreman can also employ haulers to deliver product to the customer if needed, or in the case where one warehouse has product that another warehouse needs, these haulers can be employed to move product. So there can be many players involved in the process.

How is this different from a corp?

I'd be very interested to be involved in this kind of endeavour..

At the risk of hijacking the thread.....

My corp is available for mining contracts in Empire space (Kernite through Veld generally, although Jaspet is also possible) please contact me if this service is of interest to you

Mining in your alliance space will be considered subject to NAP's & terms of the contract.

If anyone in this thread has the capability to supply extremely large amounts of low-end minerals (100m trit, 15m py, 5m mex to start) and collect them in one station in the Khanid region (doesn't matter where, as long as it has factories), please send me an EVEmail.

A mining Alliance would be a good fit for what your talking about doing here. The Alliance would be open to small mining corps or even 1 man corps. I know there is overhead doing it this way but would be a good way to organize it.

I'd be interested.

I am planning a corp mining operation in 0.1 tomorrow. I am ready to pay a commission fee for miners to mine hedbergite and omber for us. Basically we pay you for the minerals you buy us at a rate slightly lower than market average, but you are relieved of the hassle of refining, transport, and are safe to mine for yourself if you so wish. The system we plan to mine in is undisclosed to those who will not be taking part.

Eve mail me for more info.

An alternative:
If you wish to mine in 0.l space safely to make yourself very affluent - eve mail me - The condition is you pay a set commission per hour, based on the ship type you decide to mine in. This can be between 100k and 2 mil per hour. Given that hedbergite is available in the system I don't think it is unreasonable.

I am planning a corp hunting operation in 0.1 tomorrow. I am ready to pay a commission fee for miners to act as stationary targets for us. Basically we pay you for the loot you drop us at a rate slightly lower than zero, but you are relieved of the hassle of flying your slow mining barges home, and are safe from NPC's because they don't attack pods. The system we plan to mine in is undisclosed to those who will not be taking part, so we don't have to split the loot.

Eve mail me for more info.

I think this sounds like a great idea! Count me in. I am sitting on a small hoard of ice materials, would welcome an easier way to move them.
