Hello all,

In my experience you almost always find yourself using one of your med slots for some type of propulsion enhancement, like an Afterburner or a Microwarp Drive. There are exceptions of course but it is certainly a very common thing to see in the EVE universe.

It occurred to me that this is in many ways an inefficient use of med slots, because those are intended primarily for engineering and tactical capabilities - shield enhancements, EW and such things. Propulsion strictly speaking doesn't quite fit that purpose, unless of course you have a ship where speed is of direct tactical importance - like an Interceptor perhaps.

Therefore I propose a new type of slot called Propulsion slots. Each ship is given anywhere from zero to two propulsion slots, suitable for MWD, AB or AB+OD fittings.

Supplemental ideas include a new fitting specification (Drive Torque Limit just to make up a name), advanced propulsion drives that fit only specific types of ships, Tech2 ships with extra propulsion slots or Torque bonuses, new EW or weapon technology that affect Torque (replacement for current jammers and webbers) and many other things.

Naturally this means rebalancing but it might not be so bad because the advantage of having an extra med slot is given to all players.

Anyway - it's an idea. That's what this forum is for .. :-)

I think it might open up many new options for both game designers and players.

Excellent Idea.

Could be adapted to support the Jump Drives in a later stadium.

Only would the Torque bonusses or penalties not clash with agility-related skills? (programming-wise)

Hi there

An idea which I came up with which is relevant to this thread was to make multiple slot adapters. Basically like a multiple plug socket adapter which allows us to plug it onto a slot and creat 2 slots. (or more) Of course there would have to be penalties to CPU and stuff like that but basically you could sacrifice a module you might have put in a low slot, in order to put in another high slot. I'm sure EVE could balance something out with regard to that. Skills could be used such as Lo Slot Adapter Operations (req Electronics 5, Engineering 5) Med Slot Adapter Operations (req Lo Slot Adapter Opps 5) etc. This would mean someone could have a ship designed for multiple roles so that they don't have to get a different ship to fulfill a different function necesarily, which is the advantage this experienced player has now that he has spent months training the skills and say 10 million on each of the modules.
