So we are war with another corp. What do they do? (and this is a great exploit btw) They send noob ships into battle to target us, so when we fire at them, the cops show up and blow us to hell and back. No way does anyone have time to ID every single person in a fight. Yah, real nice there CCP. You certainly have your gameplan laid out well =P

did this just happen today? the ticker name of the player's corp should be next to his name.

This has been an all-around amusing night of posts, but that is the funniest thing I've read so far. Yeah it's an exploit, but gotta give credit to whomever thought that up, damn ingenious.

Even if they fix this issue, the next one is to send noobe ships into battle if missiels are being used so that the noobe ships are hit by the blast - you will have the same effect of the police joining in.

So, don't use big bang missiles then !

Remember, every n00b ship contains a pilot not in a cruiser, not really a very effective strategy.

Wait till I start parking my NPC Corporation frigate outside a gate owned by the same, and target the occasional ship, gonna get a big surprize if they open up on me first !

"They send noob ships into battle to target us, so when we fire at them, the cops show up and blow us to hell and back."

So why not let them fire at you first and have the police sort the problem for you instead? Since they're newbie ships they don't exactly hurt you much, do they?.. o.O

Posted - 2003.07.04 11:10:00 - [8]

These noob ships being piloted by Alts?

Josephine obviously the rookie ships didnt shoot, or the tactic would have been moot.

Yes. I meant that as in, as long as they're just sitting there and not doing anything harmful they might just be ignored until they actually try to do anything harmful and have their asses handed to them by the cops then?..
I realize they can be shoot by accident if there's lots of ships around, but now that the fights have been slowed down this should be easier to avoid...

thats almost as lame as the people who use 2nd accounts to 'spy' on other people, or two attack and harass pirates constantly.

Its lame "tactic", autotageting automaticly targets back and befor last patch ( i duno if its is still in) you had the taget focus jumping for no reson so the change you hit that noob ship when you click on a gun is a real problem.

well we al know some playerrs need these kind of "tactics" cos they wouldnt stand a change in a honoreble fight.

Why not just switch the autotargetting / reverse targetting thing off then? Target manually through the threat board if you're being attacked. That's not hard, is it?

I don't see a problem here. Every self respecting captain should check his fire.

Posted - 2003.07.04 11:49:00 - [15]

I thought that if you were are WAR with another corp the cops would not get involved in hostilities between the two parties.

I am thinking then that the noob ships are NOT part of the Corp war?

Yep, those tactics are kind of underhanded I think! Mabey it's the same lame players that are using alts to try to scam corps out of cash/items then delete them.

I do also think you should check your fire first tho. Hey, does anyone know if it's possible to turn OFF the auto target switch for new targets? I much perfer to just select the target for those at the top of the screen!

that's not an exploit, its strategy: keep you busy by back-targetting the noobs that locked on you (using up your 'max number of targets') until u realize u've been had, and need to unlock target and find the real threats..

very smart IMO

Posted - 2003.07.04 14:49:00 - [17]

learn from it buddy.
This tactic could (well should) only work once.
Your prepared for it now.

For them to get the police involved means they are not part of the corp you are at war with, so if they open fire they will get it from the police not you.

When going to war, remember to set you faction standing to that corp to -10 or whatever, that way they will show up as threats as soon as they are in visual range, not when u get targetted...

I have to say, it is an evil tactic.
****** would be proud.

That's a BIG exploit, since the client has this wonderful bug of target focus change. This is so annoying, terrible.

And the focus does not change only one time, it keeps changing, you have to click endless times the locked target you want to shoot, and EVE THEN, the wonderful focus manage to change!

Tip: disable auto targeting ASAP, until they fix this.

I'd just like to set the facts straight about this whole incident. Singular's 50-member corporation, Vandelay Industries, is at war with my 18-member corporation, Space Invaders, and they are getting their asses kicked, so they're bitter. So far they've lost 2 Moas, 1 Blackbird, and 3 Ospreys, with 4 people podkilled, and we've lost 1 Probe and 2 shuttles, with no people podkilled.

In the incident that sparked this thread, we had 4 people (3 Blackbirds and 1 Merlin) waiting for Vandelay to come fight us in the 0.8 security system next to their center of operations in Auviken. We also had one Ibis alt outside of our corporation who had been watching the list of people on local in Auviken for us.

Vandelay warped into our system with 3 Moas and 1 Blackbird. Our local-watching mole jumped with them. Some random innocent bystander named Helix from the United Federation of Planets corporation, totally unrelated to our war, also jumped with them.

Singular in his Moa locked on Helix after they jumped and fired on him. This brought the cops after him. While he was firing on Helix, our mole in his Ibis locked onto Singular and after Helix warped away Singular opened fire on our mole, Donkeypunch. The cops then came and blew up his cruiser. Singular said this himself:

Singular > I locked on Helix, fired, he ran, Donkey locked on me
Singular > I fired
Singular > cops came
Singular > 2 cruisers dead

We chased the rest of his gang around the system with our 3 Blackbirds and 1 Merlin. They lost 1 other Moa and the Blackbird. The last Moa escaped with about 30% hull. None of our ships were ever even hit. Not once.

So Singular idiotically fired on a random passer-by, which brought the cops to kill him. When that guy left he shot at our mole in his Ibis. This double streak of stupidity got him killed, so he came to the boards to call us exploiters.

It's especially interesting to me that he's criticizing the use of an alt to gain information, because before we did this simple local-watching Vandelay had already applied with an alt in an attempt to infiltrate our corp. You can read the application here:

RuruoniKenshin is an alt of Prince Vegeta of Vandelay Industries. I personally have no objection to alt use for espianoge in wars, but I think it's remarkably hypocritical that they try that and then come here to criticize us for FAR less objectionable behavior.

Everything I've written here is the unspoiled truth. The only discrepency is that he says the cops killed 2 cruisers, and I think our mole saw the cops kill 2 cruisers, but by my count they would have only killed Singular. I may have missed one, in which case they lost yet another Moa. Anyway, this whole thing just shows what liars and sore losers the incompetent fighters of Vandelay Industries really are.

ROFL! They send noob ships and you SHOOT them? HAHA! ok, first, noobships wouldn't be able to do you much damage anyway and if they'd shoot first the cops would be after THEM, so just ID them. Second, just ask your CEO to change the standing towards the whole corp you're at war with, so that they all pop up on your hud as a threat when they come next to you.

Just be careful man, it's funny how some people are gullible! haha.

Good one to whoever the other corp is lol!

Exho, read my post. It's my corp--I explained the whole thing in detail. Singular's behavior was even more stupid than his post makes it sound.

You said this: "Second, just ask your CEO to change the standing towards the whole corp you're at war with." Know what's funny? Singular IS the CEO.

You know the funniest thing about this Setec? Ruruoni is spelled wrong. It's supposed to be Rurouni.

LOL I'm such a nerd that I'd notice that.

IMHO I feel this is an exploit. In a Corp war, you don't have time to look at the info of everyone targeting you and decide "yep this is the one I can shoot at". So if they had someone in a newbie ship target them when they weren't a member of their corp, then they have committed griefing. As this would cause an exploit in the idea that the corporation they were hunting underhandedly used a member's alt to target their opponents to their opponents woudl fire back and thus incur the wrath of the police thus turning the tide in their favor. Underhanded, sneaky, and downright an exploit. They are not so much exploiting as taking advantage of the fact that there is no method other then using the info to figure out exactly who is at war at the time, so if I was in the heat of the battle, adn all of a sudden a new target shows up on me, locked on me, you better believe that i'm gonna turn around and shoot first.

Dnakath, keep in mind that before Singular fired on my corpmate, he shot some random guy who just happened to be passing through. THEN he shot my corpmate's alt, who had only targeted him, and had not fired. At that time the police were already coming for him for shooting the other guy.
