I think a new type of ship class would be a ship specially designed to take down missles...The Aegis Battlecruisers.

These will be a special type of support ship.

Right now the flavor of the month are Ravens with 6x Siege Launchers sending our Torpedos of DOOM!!!

So fight fire with Advanced Defender Missiles!!!

Create a new launcher that allows these Advanced Defender Missiles to only be fitted on these Aegis Battlecruisers (the Aegis Battlecruisers will reduce the CPU costs by 90%...typical 'only fitting').

These ships are special purpose is to be able to take out a wall of Torpedos sent its way...and perhaps another set of them to his neighbors.

Now being a battlecruiser means that they will be prone to direct fire attacks from Gankedons and the like, so like other battlecruiser class ships, give them enough HP and damage reduction to absorb a some of that damage - the inherent weakness of the battlecruiser class of ships.

My idea of an Aegis Battlecruiser is that 1 Aegis Battlecruiser should be able to take down 18 Torpedos fired from 50 km away.

NOTE: Today 3x Defeners can take out 1 Torpedo

Having a special ship to take out missiles, i for one dont agree with that, i've spent nearly 2 years working on my caldari char and can use missiles and rails. Why should a ship get created that can neutralise all my weapons and render me useless. if this happens i'll ask for a ship that is covered with solar panels that will turn all mega-pulse energy into cap so i can run my tank forever.

I apologise if this is offensive, but i feel creating a ship that will take out a vast majority of a race's firepower would cause a minor imbalance.

I think its a good idea. Fleets need options. I would however make the anti missile boat a cruiser. It should be realtively weak in all but its main role. As for comments about it reducing the effectiveness of missiles, of course it does. But its a logical progression for the game. Perhaps a counter will be a velocity mod for missile boats that reduce anti missile boats effectiveness.

If CCP added a new class of Anti-Missile Boats called Aegis Cruisers we could have:

Gallente - Hybrid and/or drones
Amarr - Lasers
Caldari - Missiles
Minmatar - Projectiles

Each class of ship would specialize in a different turret based anti-missile system.

Each race would have turrets that allowed them to shoot down missiles that aren't necessarily targeted at them...this would allow a fleet to have some of these Aegis Battlecruisers to nock out some of the incomming missiles.

The problem with Defender missiles atm is that they only attack missiles that are currently targeted at YOU...these Aegis Battlecruisers should allow you to attack any missile that is in range.

Obviously an Aegis Battlecruiser, being a cruiser will mean that it will have problems in fleet battles, but so does any cruiser class ship. An attacking fleet will have to choose their targets.

Missiles are a gun for idiots in Eve - while that may be unfair because it takes a smart person to use every other weapon it would still not help the game if missiles were the only weapon you could render useless...

Currently missiles hit 100% of the time as long as they:

1. Move faster than you
2. The distance tranveled is below their max range/travel time

Cruise missiles go 2,000 m/s
Torpedos go 958 m/s

Very few ships can sustain the speed to out run or out range missiles.

I agree, it's a stupid system, but if you can shoot down only 1/3 of all missiles fired Caldari would be completly unable to destroy battleships that can tank the damage missiles do.

I think missiles need an overhaul in general so they are more like missiles and less like guns that always hit.

this looks like a raging case of WAAAAAAABULANCE for getting fragged by a missile boat.

Granted missiles are often hard to dodge, especially for the bigger ships, but thatís the whole idea.

If you want to destroy them, there is absolutely no need what so ever for an A.E.G.I.S. missile system (Airborne Early warning Ground environment Interface Segment), standard defender missiles and a rocket launcher can and will do IMMENSELY well against any amount of missiles.

This proposal for an anti-missile boat ship is simply suggesting a solution to a problem that isnít being given.

Whatís next then?

Anti-Beam boats? Anti-Hybrid boats? Anti-projectile boats?

Come on, this is completely an affront to Caldari.

Besides, the devs have long since said they are planning to rework the missiles.

If you canít stand the heat then get out of the kitchen because fighting ANY ship requires figuring around its strengths and weaknesses.

when a pulse-geddeon jumps on top of a Raven and gets the surprise on the raven itís an equally irritating situation.

A blaster-thron hops on top of an arty-rigged-tempest and thatís every bit as humbling.

And the list can go on like that for pages.

For Godís sake, some day people will realize that for every measure, there is a counter measure, and NO ship is absolutely immune to every possible solution the opposition can arrange.

When that golden day arrives however, then quite likely the world will come to an end :p

Yea lalala.... The problem with missiles is that cruise missiles can hit frigates for full damage nearly 100% of the time, and that's completly ridiculous...

I don't know...flying a cruiser in a fleet battle pretty much means instant death.

Even if you had a ship that could shoot down missiles around it, even if they were not targeted at it, the ship wouldn't last long enough to make a difference.

1 Apoc would take it out so fast it wouldn't even shoot down a missile.
