I am really excited about the coming of Dust 514, I hope all who read this will know what is it about. So the thing i wanted to get an opinion for is what are we fighting over?!?

I see no sense I taking over planets when we can have a 500 cap battle and be over with it.Are they going to introduce new stuff only made from resources from special planets and ****, or are we going to tell people to fight because they want play to?Oh and another thing to consider, with all those players pouring into eve, will there be enough contracts to satisfy them, or they will just have nothing to do , waiting in a lobby waiting 50m for contract to show up?But please concentrate and the reason of conquering a planet. What the hell is the thing that will make me spend like 1 billion for a planet conquering op, when i can just rat, mine or go ransom some people?

You are fighting over the 1-3 months it will take for the ADD console FPS crowd to take a peek and leave when the next big title comes out if dust even gains any tangible traction from onset. After that if any serious sov mechanics are tied to dust it will be alarm clock ops with the PlayStation brigade of (insert alliance here).

I am looking forward to Dust as well. I think it will super-awesome-fantastic sauce.

Dunno how CCP is going to incentivise it though. Why fight for an extractor that a capsuleer can replace with a click? Going to have to wait and see.

Personally I just want to drive tanks and fly aircraft.

Get with the times!
CCP are going to replace the currently boring, blobby, boring, ancient and boring sovereignty system with something much better, which uses planets and Dustie players.
You can share your ideas in the Features & Ideas section, because CCP have tonnes to change and need lots of ideas to piece it all together.

Personally I am hoping for a big exciting reveal. Something that revitalises interest in EVE, like Apocrapha did.

From what I have read it looks pretty neat. Dust 514 characters are persistent and can level up, pve in high sec areas and pvp in null space for the EVE players. They even have their own quarters too. Vehicles and whatnot are setup like EVE space ships with components as well. Looking forward to it.

Dust will suck. Does anyone really think that Eve's first person shooter will compare to BF3? By the time CCP releases Dust, the technoology behind it will be ancient, as will the graphics. No one is going to care. I mean litterly no one. It will be like Brink. Good number of people at first, then hardly anyone in a few weeks.

What dusters will be fighting for is not clear. If CCP goes for some sort on influence system for sov, then every planet your alliance controls increases your influence making it easier to get or keep sov.

And/or it could be that a planet controlled by an alliance can only be mined by members of that alliance. Lose a planet and every PI op set up by any alliance member on that planet is lost.

We have A LONG way to go before this happens. Let's look at the facts as leaked/presented:

1) The video of a planet incursion (PII) showed interaction between planet and space, however several posts have suggested that this type of interaction will not be "real time".

2) the video shows land weapons have been placed to protect control facility/processors/launchpad, but no weapons are available to purchase to defend said installation

3) The alliance could have been stockpiling materials, anticipating this event and on the day - the attackers meet no resistance OR the alliance removes all installations. Just imagine if EVERYONE did that...

This is going to be an interesting addition - for CCP, but it won't encourage me to go out and buy a PS3...

I don't get how the incentive is going to work.

As was pointed out in another thread entire 0.0 alliances are PLEX driven, besides an "honorable few" and botters who is doing anything with any worth protecting?
