So I've been thinking about Dust.

Are there any details on how combat will be resolved in different planets?
Infrantry style combat on barren and terrestrial planets is obvious. But will we be getting tank only battles on plasma and lava planets? Or aircraft only battles on gas?

Both of which would be really cool.

PS. Can I haz beta access?

They have said that not all planets will have battles fought on them, but I think that CQC battles inside of industrial complexes on inhospitable planets would be awesome.

In an interview it was mentioned that the player could purchase armor upgrades that would allow them to fight in hostile environments. Take that to mean what you like, but I'm still excited.

I don't see why any of the planet types couldn't have combat "on" them. Fighting on a gas giant's atmospheric platforms, or on the surface of a storm planet would require much different tactics than barren or temperate worlds. It would add very interesting variation. I'm trying to visualize what being on a lava or plasma planet would be like, but I can't imagine it would be very friendly - probably more vehicle centric than the rest.

I'm also interested in how the terrain will vary between battle zones in general. Guess we'll just have to wait for more details.

All you need to know about DUST is it will be a giant flop. I mean did you see the BF3 trailer ? Thats all that needs to be said.

Aerial battles on a storm planet would certainly be an overload in eye candy.

Perhaps expanding the battles to the other types of planets is a part of CCPs future expansions for dust.

*goes and buys a ridiculous amount of pop corn in preparation for the null sec tears that will undoubtedly occur in the near future.

Knowing CCP, Dust will release with nothing but Terran planets, sov holders will put all their PI sov structures on storm or gas planets where it can not be attacked, and the interwebs will implode from all the massive amounts of whine that ends up on the EVE forums.

Of course the logical fix to this would be to only allow sov structures on planets where dust battles can occur... but does anyone really expect CCP to release logical, well thought out, complete content?

Fake Edit: And even if they do, we should still see tons of whine from sov holders who for what ever reason think that the planet types in (random) system give them someone a huge advantage/disadvantage.

Now if only we could reprocess null-sec tears intro tritanium. Mineral shortages solved!

But why only terran planets? Dust battles could also occur on barren, ice and oceanic with no problems - aside from getting blown up by me.

In fact, if null sec corps are beginning to worry already, I'm more than willing to accept cash bribes now. Cause I am generous like that.

THX to PI, we already know that PI infrastructures is set to keep environmental standards fit to human life. I guess there will be some CQ battles within sealed control centers.

But who knows, CCP long lost their commitment to excellence and maybe we see cookie-cutter industrial stations all over the place, gas planets included.Rolling Eyes

There are no details because CCP doesn't even have a clue at the moment of how the mechanics in a game that's been in development for years are going to work yet. Builds a lot of confidence does it not?

As of now, CCP are having to change fundamental mechanics in EVE proper that can greatly affect server stability because Carbon is such a horrible platform it is having major integration issues with CCP's flagship product after 5 years of effort.

The most realistic projection for dust is as follows; it's going to launch like any CCP product, half finished, over-hyped to a self-defeating end, and with laughable core functionality. Expect any aspect of it linking with EVE to have a very hard time, expect any type of involvement with sov to be dominated by alarm clock players while the typical fps player is driven away from eve just like the typical MMO player.

It has a silver lining though, if it crashes and burns as hard as it seems it will Sony will bail and CCP will have to face the fiscal ramifications as well as the market knowing they can't put together a decent polished experience.

Dust is going to be horrible and is going to bomb on a massive scale. Don't waste any time thinking about it.

I am interested in the article on the dust website saying that they'll be several social spaces in Dust one of them being the war room.

I'd like to know more about what kind of other social places there will be.

Also Interested in OP's idea, fly only battles with jetpacks and airplanes or inside floating gasharvesters are a +1

Yeah I have a feeling that CCP is going too drip feed us details over the next few months.

Bastards :)

Hopefully at some point they will integrate eves and dusts social spaces. If only to allow us to look down on our minions.

CCP doesn't know yet.

What CCP should know, though, is that the only way for Dust to have at least average success is to integrate it well in EVE, and even that is questionable not only because of technical reasons/limitations (Incarna is fine example how actually tough is to add something new into this old, outdated engine EVE is running on), but also because majority of EVE players are not generally interested for fast paced twitch FPS games - if they were, they wouldn't be playing EVE in first place.

Real FPS crowd will stick to BF3 anyway - Dust has no chance there.

What bothers me is that in the console game market, the attention span is pretty short. What I mean is that a new game shines for only a short time until the next new thing is released. What will keep players in Dust for the long term?

Edit: Oh it seems Dust514 will actually be more of an mmofps with persistent characters, included pve, and even personal quarters... may have answered my own question.

What happens when nobody plays Dusk? Will taking sov depend on Dusk forces taking a planet?

Looks to me like an alliance with sov won't lose it after Dusk.
